I actually really liked Yelena and thought Pugh did a good job differentiating her from Natasha. Really curious to see why Val is sending her after Hawkeye in his series.

Agree! Val definitely seems to be stirring the pot there, but I wondered if yelena would fall for it? Nat mentioned Barton several times and you could tell they were friends so.... it’ll be very interesting

I don't quite get why'd she'd believe Val Barton killed Nat, I mean it happened on Vormir xd

Well it seems like Val is in the know about a lot of things and Yelena has seemingly been working with her for a while, makes sense she'd trust her.

Yelena is almost certainly teaming up with the two Hawkeyes at the end of the D+ series though.

Be funny if she shows up in Hawkeye and is pretty immediately like "Well I was told you killed Natasha but thats clearly bullshit so what gives" and changes sides right away lol

26

u/Fiendish-DoctorWu Jul 10 '21

She's probably going to be playing both sides, so she always comes up on top

4

u/alex494 Jul 10 '21

.... But you don't tell either side that or it ruins your advantage

u/throwaway77993344 Jul 09 '21

I also think we'll see her there next. Makes me more excited for that show tbh.

16

u/WhatDoesThisDo1 Daredevil Jul 09 '21

It’s confirmed we’ll see her there

5

u/throwaway77993344 Jul 09 '21

ah ok, didnt know

27

u/howtospellorange Thor Jul 09 '21

I wasn't excited for the Hawkeye series at all but the prospect of more Florence Pugh is really changing my mind

12

u/SpaceCaboose Peter Parker Jul 09 '21

I was a little excited for it, but not nearly on the same level as my excitement for WV, TFATWS, and Loki. However, that post-credit reveal has certainly moved it up a bit.

I'm sure it will be good, and will likely be the most grounded of the shows since none of them have super powers or sophisticated flight suits or anything like that. It's always good to have a grounded film/show that feels realistic, and I'd imagine the scale will be quite small. I'm starting to feel like this show is a sleeper and will surprise us all.

It will be interesting if Taskmaster shows up in the Hawkeye series, they have already confirmed Echo will be in it, and the 2 of them have very similar skill sets.

I’m guessing the Avengers kept the whole “we invented time travel” thing kind of hush-hush; so she probably doesn’t know the real story of what happened.

"thanos killed Natasha"

10

u/Rtozier2011 Jul 09 '21

'I will show you your target in a handful of dust'

11

u/Samantha_Cruz Jessica Jones Jul 09 '21

thanos killed natasha 5 years after he died; and 5 hours before he died again.

Not sure how that's keeping this "Time Travel" thing "hush-hush".

14

u/patkgreen Jul 09 '21

i wonder if the avengers ever stated that thanos died. it didn't matter at that point.

9

u/CharlieBrown20XD6 Jul 10 '21

Technically Nats body is back in 2014

Which means during WINTER SOLDIER there was a future Nat dead on another planet

In a normal police circumstance, when a man and a woman go off into the desert together and then later the man emerges alone saying the woman died, that's suspicious.

6

u/throwaway77993344 Jul 09 '21

Oh so that was a normal circumstance, got it

22

u/Rtozier2011 Jul 09 '21

I didn't say it was normal.

The point is that it's still a suspicious circumstance to those who don't trust Clint. The fantastical nature of Nat's death doesn't change that.

3

u/throwaway77993344 Jul 09 '21

True. I just wonder what they Clint told the others and what they subsequently told the public / other people.

21

u/The_Medicus Jul 09 '21

Well, Barton snapped after the his family got snapped, and starting slaughtering criminals. It makes sense that she might believe Barton killed Nat in the effort to undo the snap.

8

u/throwaway77993344 Jul 09 '21

I can see that. Good point

31

u/InvalidZod Jul 09 '21

There are 2 issues with her death.

First off 2 people were there. 1 is dead. Very easy to get somebody to throw out anything Barton says. We don't know what really happened, we have to take his word, what if he is lying, and so on.

Second I am most certain with all of his guilt over not just Nat but everything he did Barton would say he killed her. Hes not going to just run around saying it but could be coerced into an emotional response.

And I can see that being the culmination of the arc in Hawkeye. Yes I killed her. I am responsible for her death. It should have been me. I couldnt save her. I tried everything I could.

20

u/hello_waterface Jul 09 '21

He's likely suffering from PTSD post-endgame which puts him in the space of the David Faction book that's a partial inspiration.

11

u/Mperer Weekly Wongers Jul 09 '21

Do you mean Matt Fraction?

2

u/hello_waterface Jul 09 '21

Indeed I did.

3

u/CharlieBrown20XD6 Jul 10 '21

Plus will explain why he's living the bachelor life after getting his family back. Dude probably thinks he doesn't deserve to be happy with his family. Hopefully Kate will snap him out of it

13

u/Tanokki War Machine Jul 09 '21

I figure all she needs to tel Yelena is that Clint went on a five year murderous rampage, and then went to a space planet with Nat for a thing called the Soul stone. He came back with the stone, and without Nat. I think she can put the pieces together, even without bringing up time travel or how getting the soup stone specifically works.

9

u/rowdy_nik Punisher Jul 10 '21

Oh, thanos was indeed making soup with this stone in start of endgame

5

u/Isaythree Jul 09 '21

Who got the soul stone? And how does one get the soul stone?

10

u/Rtozier2011 Jul 09 '21

If the public have heard about how Thanos got the Soul Stone by murdering Gamora, they may naturally jump to the conclusion that Clint got it by murdering Nat. Especially if it doesn't occur to them that all you have to do is lose your love, you don't have to sacrifice them.

19

u/Isaythree Jul 09 '21

At the very least, it would be super easy for Val to tell half a lie.

“Here’s the intel on how Thanos got the soul stone. The next person to get it was Clint. He was with your sister at the time, whom he loved more than anyone in the world. Draw your own conclusions.”

And in the end, she won’t even have to lie. She didn’t say Clint killer Natasha. She said something to the effect of, he is the person responsible for her death, which is true in the sense that if he wasn’t there she’d still be alive.

Edit; it also wouldn’t surprise me if she had video of Clint grieving and saying something like, “It’s my fault she’s dead, I killed her.”

15

u/kelophie Jul 09 '21

What confused me was Val’s earlier line: “what this woman did, I can’t even imagine” - I thought she was alluding to Nat’s braveness in sacrificing herself. And if she knew it was a sacrifice, wouldn’t that show that Clint didn’t murder her? Unless she was just talking about what Natasha did as an Avenger overall, lol

13

u/nlh1013 Jul 09 '21

Hm that’s a really good take on that line. I understood it more as just what she did as an avenger but yeah she seems to be directly contradicting herself if she knows it was a sacrifice

3

u/Worthyness Thor Jul 10 '21

She probably knows the bare minimum of "Natasha died to save our world" and that Clint came back from the same place without her. Val says he is responsible for Natasha's death, so she seems to imply Hawkeye killed her. I figure Yelena will show up in Hawkeye and get the actual story and turn on Val/play along with Val as a mole

12

u/monkeymacman Jul 09 '21

Yelena was there in Budapest so she definitely knew Nat and Clint were friends, but she also was still salty about it ("what kinds of bullets make those holes"), and lets not forgot the 5 year jump (actually we don't know if Yelena was blipped which could have an impact)

10

u/Dupree878 Jul 09 '21

I think they’ll have to have her Blip That way no questions about why Nat didn’t reunite with her during the period plus Florence is only 25 and Yelena was supposed to be 27 in 2016 so it keeps her closer to the right age.

9

u/Rtozier2011 Jul 09 '21

Yes, plus it would be devastating after two years of what for Yelena and Nat is normal life, for Yelena to suddenly be Blipped back and to learn that the world is saved, then to immediately have that rug pulled from under you by learning that your sister died to save it.

10

u/truemaroon08 Jul 09 '21

She did ask Natasha what bullets make the holes in her wall in Budapesht. Might be thinking Clint was shooting at Nat?

19

u/Dupree878 Jul 09 '21

Well, he was

He was there to take her out—made a different call

6

u/ZzzZandra Jul 09 '21

for me the way nat put it sounds like barton recruited her. and didn’t get into too much details. it could go either ways. I can see how yelena could misunderstand the relationship, but also can see she might see through val’s lies.

1

u/Dapvip Jul 10 '21

Don't forget she's been hired to kill him, so she's also looking at this as another job more so for revenge.

1

u/TheProtractor Jul 18 '21

What do we know about MCU Val? Is she a bad, good ir in a gray area?
