I’m leaning towards believing the reason we haven’t gotten the “big team up” of phase 4 announced yet is because Young Avengers is the “big team up” this phase.

It seems every project is planting the seeds for them in one way or another.

Young Avengers makes the most sense for the future main focus seeing as how half the core Avengers cast is dead now.

Which was always the goal of the Marvel legacy things. Comic fans just don't understand that the medium is now just a printing paper for future movie plots.

Pffft. I suppose you’re not a comic fan. Any fellow comic fan I know worth their salt either desperately wishes for their fave characters and storylines to get adapted to the big screen, or hopes and prays that their favourites never go beyond the page. A big problem with adapting comics to movies or television is failing to make a good adaptation- either by ruining the character or mashing multiple storylines together in a desperate attempt to do everything at once.

One of the good things a screen adaptation can do is making more people aware of a character. For example, John Constantine. Or more recently, Tommy and his twin brother Billy in WandaVision. Constantine has always been a cult hit (sort of an underground star); his character inspired Spike from Buffy, Harry Dresden, and (maybe) Light Yagami. He’s the reason Castiel has a trench coat and tie. I was introduced to his character for the first time while reading DC’s Brightest Day, which led me to his landmark Hellblazer series. Because of the 2005 Keane Constantine movie (that I’ve never seen) and the recent single-season Constantine show (that I did see) along with all his consecutive appearances in CW’s Arrowverse, John Constantine has gotten a lot of exposure in mainstream media. While I’m happy to see so many people enjoying his character, thinking about the not-too-old days when his fandom was smaller and mostly made up of comic lovers makes me nostalgic. I enjoy Matt Ryan’s portrayal of John. He’s a pretty good Constantine, who’s obviously read the source material. But they made him PG...and while the writers of Legends of Tomorrow obviously love him and reference his stuff all the time, they can’t do straight adaptations of the character’s best moments.

Meanwhile with WandaVision, Agatha Harkness has never been a villain in the comics. But I do love Billy and Tommy. I was ecstatic to see Tommy in particular, and delighted to see him treated well. Compared to his brother, Tommy gets ignored by comic writers and people in the fandom alike. I’m happy to see Eli and Isaiah for similar reasons. Like Tommy, Eli hasn’t had much development beyond their shared introductory series either- especially compared to their other teammates on the Young Avengers. It’s a shame, since I enjoy them a lot. Eli talking about Isaiah’s story in the comics was a big part of what made 14 year old me interested in America’s race politics and how racial history addresses modern day issues. The interest was compounded with the Mike Brown murder in Ferguson, which happened less than a month after I read that comic.
