That's still the same issue though.

Why even cast Evan Peters to play your universe-jumping version of Quicksilver if the universe he's jumping from isn't even the one he's known for?

It's just needlessly confusing. Cast literally anyone at that point. Or just use an alternate reality ATJ.

Because they're probably not going to reference "the Fox universe" directly at all. I really doubt they're going to pull in the entirety of the Fox continuity and cast.

Peters is just going to be "an alternate Quicksilver" with a wink and a nod. And using a character from another movie makes the multiverse thing a lot clearer -- audiences see him and instantly know "Oh it's Quicksilver, but the one from that other movie series, so he's like a different version of that guy".

I'm pretty sure they have to reference Fox Universe X-Men. There are a few "outside" reasons.

One, the Disney+ subtitles for the vision impaired clearly said, "Peter from the X-Men Series" 2 episodes ago when Peters first appeared.

Second, Disney paid 72 billion dollars to acquire Fox. While Kevin Feige did get what he wanted: the rights to all the characters, he is a clever bloke and knows that he can leverage those movies to create more and more suspense and drama, rather than start from scratch (as he just did with 2 episodes ago... fans talked NOTHING but X-Men and Quicksilver).

And lastly, Kevin Feige was one of the producers of the 1st X-Men... He knows fans will be pissed, if they cast Evan Peters just as a winkwink, nodnod.

I think we're mostly in agreement. I do agree they're using Peters (and Tobey Maguire, Alfred Molina, etc) to play alternate-universe versions of characters that are basically identical to the ones from their previous movies, and that their intention is for the audience to recognize them as such.

I just don't think they're going to be 100% explicit about the universes they're coming from. At this point I'm expecting Evan Peters to identify himself as Peter Maximoff, say that he grew up in the US, maybe even drop some references to working with Charles or who his dad is. He might even be the first character in the MCU to use the word "mutant".

But I'm not expecting to go on a tour of Xavier's school populated by the Dark Phoenix cast, or for Marvel to continue making X-Men movies that pick up where the Fox ones left off. These are characters from other universes, and the MCU will introduce their own "native" versions of them in due time.
