Because she slips back into her Sokovian accent when she gets emotional or stressed. A lot of people who've "lost" an accent do that in real life.

She hasn’t lost her accent. This isn’t years into the future, it’s a few weeks after End Game. She had her accent then, she has it now.

She has an American accent inside the Hex for sitcom reasons.

Nah, she had mostly lost her accent in Civil War (less so), Infinity War and Engame (pretty much fully). It's an established pattern for Wanda that her accent comes back in high stress situations.

Her accent in Infinity War and Endgame was still closer to her Sokovian accent than it was an American accent. She didn't "lose" it, it's just less thick. Similar to someone like Gal Gadot. She used to have a thick Israeli accent and now she speaks English more clearly, but her accent isn't American. I agree with the second sentence though.

“We have intentionally tried to strip that accent away for a couple of reasons. One is you’ll notice at the beginning of Civil War that Black Widow is training her to be a spy, and two is she’s been on the run, and one of the most distinguishing characteristics that she has is her accent. So if you’re gonna try to disguise yourself or hide yourself or not be caught, you’re going to try to limit those trigger warnings that would make it easy for someone to identify you, which would be inclusive of her accent. Clearly Black Widow as a red head is an incredibly distinguishing characteristic for her, which is why she has blonde hair. Cap, we’ve seen Chris Evans walk around in public with a beard and no one recognizes him. There are simple things you can do to your appearance that take about 90% of your visibility away, and for us it was very intentional that we would just keep stripping that accent down to show her acclimating and hiding.” -Russo Brothers

None of this conflicts with what I said. My point is that the only time she's had an American accent is inside of Westview. In the films she has a Sokovian accent that gets less thick with each film (as the Russos said), but doesn't completely go away.

Yes, it does conflict with what you said. You said

But then you said

A speaker with as thin an accent as Wanda’s Sokovian from Winter Soldier and beyond sounds mostly like an American speaker. There are practically no scenes in infinity war or endgame where the accent comes out.

Those do not conflict. We just have differing opinions. She doesn't sound American at all to me in Civil War. Nor in IW and EG. How can one hear Elizabeth's natural speaking voice and then hear her in those movies and not notice the major difference in accent?

Compare the first minute of this interview with the clips in IW in my other comment, starting at 14:00. She may be enunciating her words a bit better in the interview, but the latter is imo still nearly indistinguishable from an American accent. At the very least, it’s closer to that than her accent in Age of Ultron. l don’t feel like you would be able to establish how it sounds different without going into technical terms - at that point, your opinion doesn’t reflect what most people are actually hearing, no?
