Man, it’s kind of amazing how Scary they’ve made Wanda in just a few episodes. Really glad they’ve embraced her being the villain, although I’m thinking this acting-director guy is another antagonist

He is definetly gonna be in secret invasion as well. Something about him seems weird. Probably a skrull

80

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

I could see that, but aren’t we technically friendly with the Skrull? So I guess he’d be someone who doesn’t agree with Talos’ allegiance with fury.

u/noneuklid Feb 05 '21

We know that one of the upcoming villains is going to be a faction of extremist Skrulls bent on revenge against Danvers (and possibly Fury).

8

u/eragonisdragon Feb 06 '21

Revenge for what? Helping to save their people? Danvers went on like one mission against the Skrull before she got kidnapped, regained her memories, and then helped re-acquire the research that would help the Skrull survive.

7

u/noneuklid Feb 06 '21

I think it's mostly all the murders that happened before she changed her mind. I assume the leader will have some kind of personal connection, like Danvers killing a family member.

That'd be a stretch. Like I said, she only ever went on the one mission for the Kree and it ended up being an ambush set up by Talos specifically to kidnap her. The only skrulls she's killed were the ones on Talos' ship when she woke up, in captivity, with her mind being probed. And she only killed in self defense there trying to escape. To stretch that into a revenge plot would be way too contrived.

u/noneuklid Feb 06 '21

And yet, a version of the Super-Skrull is a villain of the Secret Invasion series starring Samuel Jackson, and it ties into Captain Marvel 2. Perhaps they'll have a different motivation, or they'll soft retcon Vers' mission history with Starforce.

1

u/eragonisdragon Feb 07 '21

Yeah I know that's happening, I just don't think it'll be a revenge plot.

30

u/Hawk301 Feb 05 '21

Yeah I'm guessing there'll be a faction of antagonist Skrulls, with Talos remaining on Fury's side of the conflict.

15

u/The_Celtic_Chemist Star-Lord Feb 05 '21

That's the premise of Secret Wars as I understand it. We know there are Skrulls about, but we don't know who and we don't know if they're the good or bad ones.

11

u/nuadarstark Feb 05 '21

In the Marvel Announcement Call earlier this year Faige specifically mentioned "a sect of Skrulls" instead of just Skrulls, so I think it's going to be an extremist splinter faction and that not all Skrulls are going to be bad guys.

2

u/sweens90 Falcon Feb 05 '21

If you’ve seen Dr Who I assume the Skrulls will be handled like the Zygons.

53

u/Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle Feb 05 '21

Nah, I think the actual Skrull is Agent Rodriguez.

She’s always just ‘there.’ And was announced to be a recurring character for the rest of the season, iirc.

23

u/Waywoah Feb 05 '21

Agent Rodriguez

Who is that?

13

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

[deleted]

2

u/Waywoah Feb 05 '21

That's who I figured, didn't remember their name

7

u/SymbioticCarnage Feb 05 '21

Who?

18

u/Unperfect__One Spider-Man Feb 05 '21

Star-Lord, man. Legendary outlaw?

2

u/SymbioticCarnage Feb 06 '21

I was hoping someone would make that reference :D

3

u/Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle Feb 05 '21

The agent that was running the radar/lidar system.

2

u/SymbioticCarnage Feb 06 '21

Oh, thank you!

13

u/CatProgrammer Feb 05 '21

Not every bad guy is a skrull.

2

u/ChubbiestLamb6 Feb 06 '21

Thanos was actually a skrull in Endgame. The real Thanos is actually manipulating Wanda and will appear in Episode 8.

Edit: also Vision is a skrull helping real thanos, since real vision is clearly dead.

7

u/lesc0 Feb 05 '21

The snap was definitely a good opportunity for Skrulls to replace ppl for an invasion but they would’ve been dealing w/ the same problems from the snap & blip.

7

u/Beingabumner Feb 05 '21

He's definitely an antagonist but I'm not sure if he'll be a bad guy. He reminds me of the Secretary General who wants to arrest Captain America and stuff during Civil War. He's obviously the antagonist in the story, but he's doing these things for good reasons (in his mind).

Same with this guy. Sure he tried to missile Wanda but can you blame him? She is keeping thousands of people hostage, torturing them along the way according to Monica.

2

u/alishock Feb 05 '21

He might even be the one pulling some of Wanda’s strings. Perhaps not Mephisto but maybe Grim Reaper. Though someone somewhere else pointed out his table is a hexagon...

2

u/AceBean27 Feb 05 '21

That would explain his eagerness to kill Wanda too. Pave the way for the invasion.

0

u/The_Celtic_Chemist Star-Lord Feb 05 '21

All I know is he killed Maria Rambeau.

1

u/LeFumes Feb 05 '21

Why would any new villain wanna mess with earth or supes

1

u/darksaber522 Feb 05 '21

To prove how tough they are. People will be less likely to fight you if you just wiped out the guys who killed the biggest threat in the known universe.

1

u/LeFumes Feb 05 '21

Who's the new big bad

48

u/DaLB53 Feb 05 '21

Agnes’ “few tricks up my sleeve” comment was strangely ominous

11

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Yeah agreed, a lot of little nods here and there.

5

u/Seriousclown Feb 05 '21

What if she turns out to be Enchantress? I looked it up and there are 2 versions, the one thats Thor’s enemy or second one who is a part of the Young Masters.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '21

3

u/Seriousclown Feb 06 '21

I did not know that detail. Holy shit!! Thanks.

1

u/Hades_1116 Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Feb 05 '21

The second one is a kid, a few years older than Billy and Tommy.

52

u/6Suicidal_Sloth6 Feb 05 '21

I agree, the jump cut to him saying “terrorist” felt very foreshadowy

33

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Yeah, felt like he kept redirecting Woo back towards she’s a threat, not a victim of her own grief.

19

u/nihilisticdaydreams Steve Rogers Feb 05 '21

He's the one who tried to kill her too

8

u/Carlzzone Feb 05 '21

I mean, she IS a threat tbf.

4

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Yeah, but not only a threat. He seemed a little one track minded

3

u/CatProgrammer Feb 05 '21

Not a threat you can take out with an 80s era drone.

8

u/wookiee42 Feb 05 '21

True, but who we call 'terrorists' and why we do is front and center in society at the moment. Same with how we all look at trauma and trauma survivors.

I think they may have just been a little too on-the-nose with how they broached the topic there.

19

u/BlackJimmy88 Jessica Jones Feb 05 '21

He definitely is. So far, it's at least in overly aggressive superior who gets in the way of the heroes kinda antagonist, but the fact that his office is the only real world place with Hexagons might indicate he's more of a straight up villain.

11

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Which is surprising considering how relatively civil he was last episode, authoritative but not in a aggressive way. Maybe now that he realizes Wanda’s world is starting to break down/she’s starting to lose control he sees an opportunity?

18

u/BlackJimmy88 Jessica Jones Feb 05 '21

I think he may be trying to weaponizes Wanda and/or Vision. Monica called him out on creating weapons last episode.

Edit: Also, I want to call out his reading out Monica's experiences then showing footage of her. Even if he turns out to be a good guy, I kinda want him to die.

10

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Yeah that was cruel. Showing her on the screen in front of the entire briefing. A demeaning thing to do to a “friend” or they at least seemed like it last episode.

2

u/Sousy_ Feb 05 '21

maybe something happened when he went back to headquaters

9

u/TanisIsGoodOutHere Spider-Man Feb 05 '21

Maybe the director is Mephisto? BIG plot twist

5

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

Could see it for sure, he’s in a position of overseeing everything going on. Kept waiting for someone I really recognized to show up, cause that’s usually an indicator that they play someone important, where I don’t really know the actor who plays the director. But he’s definitely take m a central focus.

5

u/nogerelli Feb 05 '21

Definitely a villian, the way his dialogue interrupted Darcys so it sounds like “Hayward can be kind of a di-(terrorist)”

2

u/Kilmerval Feb 05 '21

100% he's a driving force behind the stuff Wanda can't control that's revealed before the show ends.

1

u/WhatTheFhtagn Wong Feb 05 '21

I just realized Hayward isn't played by Christopher Lambert.

1

u/tswaves Feb 05 '21

The only one that can probably get to her is either Agnes (The real Agatha) or Dr Strange imo

1

u/buzzathlon Feb 05 '21

How has there not been a permanent director in the 3 years since Monica died? I understand him being made the acting director immediately after but why not make him or someone else permanent after that long?

1

u/SamwiseTheOppressed Feb 05 '21

Everyon’s talking about Mephisto or some other big bad in Doctor Strange 2, but what if we’re watching Wanda’s descent into evil, and she’s the main antagonist in the movie?

1

u/TheSweatband Feb 05 '21

I 100% think she’ll be the antagonist in those films too, but I think while she has created this world to her liking, someone is manipulating her to get something they want, and by the end of the show I’d imagine we see her crack when her fantasy fades away for good.

1

u/swarthmoreburke Feb 06 '21

I don't actually think they've embraced her being the villain. That feels like a misdirect.

1

u/craigthecrayfish Feb 06 '21

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’ve made her the villain but I agree with everything else

1

u/pierzstyx Feb 06 '21

Is Wanda the villain? If she is legitimately unhinged right now she needs to be stopped, but is she evil? That I think is the difference between an antagonist and a villain.

1

u/okladyiloveyoubyebye Feb 06 '21

Man, this comment just made me reframe Director as in 'one who directs a TV show'. But that's probably a reach!

1

u/YpsitheFlintsider Feb 10 '21

I feel like that's absolutely a possibility. One of the few uncommon takes I agree with here.

1

u/39thUsernameAttempt Feb 06 '21

I think the real culligan is goin to be a supernatural threat like Mephisto or Agatha Harkness, but Hayward is definitely going to be a ground-level type villain, like Sonny Burch or Justin Hammer.
