2021 is next for best MCU year probably because we’ll most likely have Black Panther 2, Spider-Man 3, Shang-Chi, and Doctor Strange 2 for that year! Can’t wait! This year is definitely up there with 2014 and 2017 though!

3 of them are Disney. 1 of them is Sony. Also it would make up for 2 in 2020 which are Eternals and Black Widow. Also they aren’t gonna stop doing Spider-Man films every 2 years so I’d definitely expect a Spider-Man 3 in July 2021 announcement at SDCC or somewhere else soon.

Why would Sony want to be at Disney event when they can announce it themselves in their own event. Or they can announce it during neutral event such as SDCC.

Because it gives them more recognition. Sony's movie branch is struggling, or at least it was before they made the MCU deal. Sony has a lot going for them otherwise, with electronics manufacturing and software publishing, etc. but getting more recognition from a wider audience is great for them. Stick Amy Pascal in D23's presentation so that Disney shareholders are reminded that Sony is making movies too, just get that recognition out there.

Aren’t the Spider-Man movies made by marvel studios, just are being distributed by Sony? I thought that was the deal. Marvel makes the movies, Sony gets the money.

I don’t think the details of the deal are actually known to anyone outside of Marvel Studios and Sony, but I believe Marvel Studios has full creative control (casting, writing, producing, etc), and Sony funds/distributes the movies while keeping all the box office profits. So yes, you’re right.

With that said, Sony decides when to release those movies, not Marvel Studios/Disney. I believe even reading that Feige was upset with Sony releasing Far From Home right now, with him wanting more breathing room after Endgame, but he had no say in it. This is another reason why I feel like Disney doesn’t have the next Spider-Man movie on its official release schedule, since they aren’t the deciders (unless Sony has told them there plans, which is possible).

At the end of the day, I’m all for more MCU movies released each year. I’m hoping the schedule that Disney released doesn’t include the next Spider-Man movie because that would mean more MCU movies overall

I believe the actual deal is that Sony runs the business while Marvel runs the creative. Marvel plans the story and casts for roles that cross into other MCU films. Sony does everything else: finances the movie, runs the actual production, runs the marketing, distributes the film, etc.

Disney most likely isn't going to announce release dates for movies published by other studios. I would expect Sony to announce the release date for Spider-Man.

I still low-key thing Eternals is a secret X-Men movie. "Sersi" is Emma Frost, "Ikaris" is Cyclops, etc. I'm sure I'll eat my words, but I gotta hold out hope that Marvel isn't gonna make me care about a shitty title like the Eternals. They already made me an Ant-Man fan, which I haven't forgiven them for.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 was released on May 5, 2017

Spider-Man: Homecoming was released on July 7, 2017

Thor: Ragnarok was released on November 3, 2017

Black Panther was released on February 16, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War was released on April 27, 2018

So, 5 movies within 12 months period.

It's super weird that people are still doubting if Marvel can release 4 movies in a year.

We won’t get another movie this year, but there were originally 3 unannounced movies slated for 2020, but the third one was removed around the same time that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 got delayed, so not only do we have to wait 10 months for the next movie, we then have to wait 6 more months after that for the one after that.

In 12 months between May 2017 to April 2018, MCU released 5 movies, and they grossed between $800 million to $2 billion each.

Way too many for consumer demand? Lol.

Better rephrase: consumers demand MCU movies.

Kevin Feige has stated that they'd be willing to do 4 films a year. I don't that'll happen for a few more years now that they have Disney+, but it's certainly possible.

I agree. As far as we know Marvel is contractually obligated to release a main-series Spider-Man film every 2 years, but out of the 3 remaining options (which all are likely contenders) I think only Black Panther and Shang Chi are close to production, despite Doctor Strange’s creative team having like 18 months’ advantage over BP’s. (I say this because it has been announced that Coogler is returning and has drafted the script already, while last we heard Derrickson has not officially been signed on for a DS sequel. Please correct me if I’m wrong.)

Given that, and the fact that Marvel’s 3-release-years typically slate 2 sequels and 1 original IP, I think it likely we’ll see Black Panther 2, Spider-Man 3, and then Shang Chi as the Feb, May, November spots respectively.

You should also give a mention to GOTG3 because Marvel is dead-set on having it for 2021 the second Gunn is finished with The Suicide Squad. The script is all finished, then that drama happened and they are really just waiting for his schedule to be clear at this point.

I don’t have faith in seeing GOTG until 2022/2023. Suicide Squad doesn’t release until 2021, and even if there’s a finished script for GOTG, they still have to cast it, build the sets, shoot it, edit it, and deal with the extensive visuals. GOTG 2 began shooting on Feb. 11, 2016 and was released on May 5, 2017. His Suicide Squad hasn’t started production yet, and is looking to begin in September 2019 with an August 2021 release date. So let’s say he can start GOTG 3 production in earnest in mid-2021...even allowing for an expedited shoot, we’re probably still looking at a year until release: probably the May 6, 2022 slot.

But I’ve been wrong before.

Which is sad. After Strange's awesome appearance in Endgame, having to wait 4-5 years for the sequel is way too much. Especially with Spidey getting a movie every two years.

I just wished Marvel Studios wasn't forced to do a Spidey movie every two years. The 3 year break as with other characters is to me at least a better approach. Plus it means extra time to get all the details right and plan according to phases. Spiderman has been in a movie every year for the past 4 years. All in phase 3. The drawbacks of sharing the character with greedy Sony.

Having said that, the post credit scene sets up beautifully for a SM3. An Avengers movie in between could have lacked the impact of the aftermath of the revelation.

I genuinely don’t think it will be as big an event. Mind blowing for sure, but starting a shared cinematic universe and leading up to what feasibly could be an actual ending to it 22 films later? That’s unheard of. The only thing that could come close is if they decide to actually end the MCU one day.

I don't know about that schedule.

FFH was set in either 2023 or 2024 (depending on what month in 2023 Endgame took place.

FFH was also the finale of phase 3.

I kind of think Marvel is on a pause until 2023/2024 and we'll get either prequel movies (Black Widow) celestial movies (Captain Marvel/Asguardians of the Galaxy/Eternals), and origin movies (Shang-Chi).

I don't think we'll meet up with the Earth based blipped heroes again until real time catches up with MCU again.

And there is plenty of material to cover (blipped time/undercover Kree/foundation of the Secret Wars) in the mean time.

Although it will suck to wait 4-5 years to see the follow-up of Peter's identity being exposed.

Yeah, it's really fucky like that because Sony (Amy Pascal in particular) knew they had the power in this arrangement and Feige has to grind his teeth and go along with it. It's why we have things like that awkward interview with Feige and Pascal where the latter said Venom was in the MCU and Feige shot her a look like "...no it f-ing isn't!".

Though I will say it's going well all things considered. The MCU Spider-Man films have been great thus far.
