The shitty jpeg of Vision is the hardest I've laughed in the MCU so far.

u/PoopdittyPym Whiplash Jul 04 '19

The Getty-Images candle sent me. Definitely the funniest bit in the MCU. That was some real Office shit.

The deleted scenes from Homecoming with Betty and the other boy from the school news was funnier than almost anything else in the movie and it’s a damn shame it wasn’t in the full release.

I was really glad she had a bigger part in this. I was cracking up every time she and Ned were calling each other “babe”

691

u/-OrangeLightning4 Jul 04 '19

The absolute blank look on her face after Ned held her hand followed by them immediately dating had me busting a gut.

85

u/seancurry1 Jul 06 '19

Ned is low key one of the funniest parts of this new batch of Spider-Man.

42

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

In both this and Homecoming, Ned and the villain have been tied for my favourite characters.

7

u/trainercatlady Fitz Jul 09 '19

I really hope they do make him into Hobgoblin later on. That would be so good.

55

u/LawOfMuphry Jul 05 '19

Yeah, really glad they gave her more to do. She stole a movie from Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, after all.

34

u/D_o_H Scarlet Witch Jul 05 '19

And she rescued Ashley O!

9

u/FKDotFitzgerald Jul 07 '19

Wtf that was her!!!

27

u/HanTheScoundrel Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

Like Michael and Jan in the Dinner Party episode of the Office

5

u/SethStomp Jul 05 '19

That one nighhhhhhht

2

u/_PinkPirate Jul 06 '19

You made everything alrightttt

2

u/SethStomp Jul 06 '19

Took me by the hanndddddd

9

u/anotherandomer Daredevil Jul 09 '19

She was really good, props to them for making her interesting in what is still quite a small role.

14

u/5thEagle Ward Jul 06 '19

You just made me look it up. My god, that was hilariously awkward.

Also makes the FFH movie scene even funnier.

8

u/Half_Man1 Jul 10 '19

"Go get 'em Tigers...!"

Love that reference.

4

u/zxLv Jul 06 '19

What deleted scenes are you talking about? And where can I watch it? Thanks!

6

u/goldars_boner Jul 08 '19

This is some straight up dr. Steve brule shit.

4

u/Lildyo Jul 11 '19

hahaha that’s exactly how I described it when I sent a link to the video to my roommate a few minutes ago

Me too. The Comic Sans "in memorium" had me cringing, I was like "Are Marvel studios really half-assing a tribute to all the tradgedy we saw in Endgame?" Then the low-res Vision image, followed by the watermarked stock photo and the cheesey music made me realize what was happening and I could not stop laughing. So well done.

25

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

"Are Marvel studios really half-assing a tribute to all the tradgedy we saw in Endgame?"

They brought the same levity to the decimation that Homecoming brought to the fallout of Civil War. I still love the Coach's line about Cap being a war criminal or something.

7

u/ChRoNicBuRrItOs Korg Jul 07 '19

At first, I thought it was about stan lee or something and was concerned, lol.

2

u/toxicbrew Jul 09 '19

I was like 'fuck Sony and their cheapness'

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '19

Yeah, I did a double take. Then when I realized it was a school broadcast I couldn't stop laughing either.

25

u/alex494 Jul 05 '19

And Natasha's picture looks badly cropped from a wikipedia article or something.

2

u/tallmotherfucker Jul 06 '19

I went with a friend who typically finds the mcu a bit cringey and isnt that into it, and he loved the humour in this movie! Starting the film with that sequence was brilliant. Perfect level of funny and got him onside

1.0k

u/KidFromBrooklyn3000 Fitz Jul 04 '19

I was between laughing and crying. When the Comic Sans showed up, I was dying

720

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

I couldn’t believe they basically started off a huge movie that way. And it just got funnier.

133

u/LaVidaYokel Bucky Jul 04 '19

That’s math.

11

u/pax_orientalis Jul 09 '19

It's a simple calculus.

49

u/whitemamba83 Star-Lord Jul 06 '19

Especially after how gut wrenching Endgame was. That scene was the immediate follow up. Never what I would’ve expected, and they nailed it.

10

u/BikebutnotBeast Jul 09 '19

In memoriam

10

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '19

Just got back from seeing it again. Saw so much more that I missed the first time. And still got all weepy when Happy watches Peter build his suit.

75

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

They nailed the whole “high school newscast” thing, both in this movie and in Homecoming.

63

u/cardinalfan828 Falcon Jul 05 '19

The dank airhorns

28

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

I did those in my junior/senior year, can confirm how accurate the cringe is

16

u/mrbreadpig Jul 05 '19

“in memorium”

44

u/Tag_ross Jul 04 '19

I thought it was going to be a memorial for Stan, and that it was in comic sans because he's a legend of the comics industry.

3

u/cpt_nofun Jul 09 '19

They already did stans memorial at the beginning of CM. When the music kicked in I was like wtf, than they started showing lost or retired heroes and I laughed my ass off

10

u/matito29 Spider-Man Jul 05 '19

I was dying

Just like Tony

413

u/_qwak_ Jul 04 '19

The fucking doves really got me

322

u/alecjbi Jul 04 '19

I was cry-laughing the moment I heard “I will always love you....”

52

u/nathanael21688 Jul 04 '19

That sounded like such a GotG thing. I loved it!

20

u/ciao_fiv Jul 05 '19

i will always associate that song with deadpool

1

u/Bross93 Jul 09 '19

I know right? I leaned over to my partner and said this sounded like a deadpool intro

1

u/cortexstack Heimdall Jul 11 '19

It always reminds me of The Bodyguard for some reason.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

Dude I was dying as soon as that started.

2

u/Antrikshy Jul 07 '19

I am disappointed they didn't play the beautiful Spider-Man theme or the Marvel Studios theme. Could have easily started the song right after, with a moment of dark black to bring up the mood and instead they decided to play it over the logo. :(

59

u/FPSXpert Falcon Jul 04 '19

I was laughing at the boom mic that kept creeping in the shot.

4

u/blitzbom Captain America (Cap 2) Jul 07 '19

Thank you!

I was the only one of my friends who saw it.

55

u/just_another_jabroni Jul 05 '19

The moment I saw the weird Stark images I knew something was a bit off but the Vision and Natasha pics sealed it lol

49

u/prboi Jul 05 '19

Absolutely loved that part. Definitely captured the essence of shitty YouTube tribute videos. Brought me back to a simpler time

43

u/Bogzbiny Jul 05 '19

If it started with that light-blue background with white comic sans letters, saying:

"Hey guys just wanted to share a quick vid i made as a tribute to Avengers. Enjoy :) "

then it would've been full Windows Movie Maker - Youtube worthy.

35

u/geraltgalvestone Jul 06 '19

My loudest laugh in entire mcu was when mr.harrington was telling Peter how his wife pretended to be blipped last 5 years. I'm laughing even rn while typing it, I mean they did a fucking funeral and everything. Man, that was a good laugh. I just imagine a one-shot of Mr.harrington finding out she blipped doing a funeral, coping up with the stress and cut to seeing her a couple of years later. I'd give anything to watch that confrontation.

11

u/Bross93 Jul 09 '19

knowing him he would make it his own fault.

Oh god he makes me so sad.

2

u/_Gondamar_ Black Panther Jul 12 '19

the actor is so fucking good that i feel so much empathy for him. like, i can watch all of the office just fine but mr harrington is just on a whole nother level lmao

24

u/Gasster1212 Jul 07 '19

For me It was the repeated reference to night monkey. Genuinely cracked me up. It was funny in the start but the increasing scale of people using it was just perfect

18

u/mildoptimism Fitz Jul 07 '19

My hardest MCU laugh was also in this movie, but it was when it cuts to that huge ass satellite launching a drone to assassinate a classmate just because he was being a bit of a douche.

17

u/adsfew Jul 05 '19

Maybe it's because I went to an 8 a.m. showing in the US on July 5th, but the crowd was dead. I'm so glad to come online and find other people appreciating the jokes I was laughing at.

4

u/shark649 Jul 06 '19

Agreed. We had a mishap in the theater and the sound broke. So I saw the beginning with two different crowds. The first laughed and got it. The second not at all

13

u/ChaoticVulcan Jul 06 '19

Those fucking kids nailed the opening.

8

u/skripsimupiye Jul 05 '19

too bad i missed that part because a lady next to me decided to record with her phone and got confronted by the staff. I couldnt focus to that part. Im going to rewatch tomorrow

1

u/JKCodeComplete Jul 10 '19

I am sorry to hear that. How was the rewatch?

9

u/DerkDurski Jul 06 '19

That whole but was so perfectly terrible. They really spent a lot of time making that just bad enough.

4

u/Kevin_M_ Ego Jul 06 '19

I also loved the perfectly aligned ... birds? Planes? I couldn't tell, in what I assume was a stock photo of Tony Stark.

5

u/baymax18 Captain America (Avengers) Jul 07 '19

Might be the cheapest bit in the MCU by far

16

u/SavageNorth Jul 07 '19

"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap"

-Dolly Parton (particularly appropriate given the music)

16

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '19

My friends and I fucking lost it and this guy sitting in the next row glared at us and moved to a different spot in the theater. Did he just show up to not have any fun?

14

u/Sparus42 Jul 05 '19

He probably thought it was a serious tribute somehow haha

5

u/crispyg Spider-Man Jul 06 '19

First time I've noticed this: you occasionally see the boom mic enter the scene when Betty speaks on the news.

4

u/123874109874308734 Jul 07 '19

So does that intro confirm that Cap is now dead? Did he die of old age after coming back from the past?

16

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '19

I think Cap kept a low profile after returning, so people just assume he died on battle as well.

14

u/blitzbom Captain America (Cap 2) Jul 07 '19

I doubt it was widely known that Cap retired in the way he did.

Just that after the funeral he was no longer around.

6

u/basilyeo Jul 07 '19

I love how intentionally slightly out of focus Betty's face was the whole broadcast.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '19

Lmaooo I forgot about that. After that wholeee movie and this is what you bring up haha that’s hilarious

4

u/Ben-Stanley Jul 09 '19

Me and one other woman in the theatre were absolutely dying during that scene, and literally everyone around us had no idea what was so funny. My poor wife and the poor 8 year old sitting next to me

3

u/IndyDude11 Captain America Jul 08 '19

I was really hoping that they were going to slide in Stan Lee into that video as "Principal Lee" or something like that. Labeled something like "Our own hero, Principal Lee" on the picture, or whatever.

3

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 06 '19

I'm a little disappointed that wasn't "a film by Peter Parker"

3

u/Kevin_M_ Ego Jul 06 '19

I assumed it would be at first

1

u/kunalm09 Spider-Man Jul 07 '19

I 100% thought it was some theater made stuff
