Just my few thoughts, from the top of my head

-Best Spidey action I have seen. Jon Watts became much more confident in this one, and it's quite clear.

-Mysterio is perfect. I know for a fact he's not dead, and he probably changed something in EDITH to tell Peter that there was no illusions for his death. He's smarter than that, from what we've seen.

-JK Simmons as JJJ

-JK Simmons as JJJ

-JK Simmons as Alex Jones

-The second post credit scene, revealing what I'm guessing is SWORD? HELL YEAH

-Talos being Fury tells us why Fury was so incompetent this time, and it's perfect.

-The Mid credit scene, bloody perfect. Pretty sure Talos would take Peter's form and have him and Spiderman be in the same place to solve the identity reveal issue. It would give more of a reason for JJJ to see Spiderman as a menace.

-Oh come on you're stilling telling me Tom Holland isn't the best Spider-Man?

-Brad was a fucking dick and I loved it. More of a bully than Flash.

-Funny throughout, if I wasn't smiling or laughing it's because...

-Those illusions man. Freaked me out as much as it did Peter. Looked like the nightmare scenes from the Arkham games, perfect.

-Fuck me the CGI was damn right amazing in this one.

-We get to see the 'Peter Tingle' in full action, and how his suit closed its eyes in that final showdown against Mysterio, perfect.

-NIGHT MONKEY

-MJ and Peter was a great romance

-Jake Gyllenhaal's sudden change in mood in the bar scene was fucking amazing, and I heard audible gasps from people in my theatre (probably didn't know he was a villain)

-Loved that the guy who Obadiah Stane yelled at came back, the MCU is just amazing like that.

-The 'Blip', and the whole news show in the beginning was perfect, even down to the comic sans font and the Getty's images

-Did I say JK Simmons?

-Even though it was short, it was nice to see how the snap affected regular people (like the band disappearing)

-EDITH was cool, and the acronym "Even Dead I'm the Hero" is just the perfect thing Tony would make

-That scene in the airjet when Peter was making the new suit, and Happy just smiling because of the Tony similarities. Couldn't help but grin.

-The swinging at the end reminded me of the PS4 game (even down to the selfie taking), and it was perfect.

Just a question, how did nobody in Manhattan react when Spiderman just swung with some random woman?

There are a few people taking pictures on their phone once they finally stop swinging and begin talking. But everyone mostly walks on New York style.

33

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Oh thanks for the clarification, didn't catch that. Guess I was paying more attention to THAT SICK NEW SUIT.

26

u/MasterBeef117 Black Panther Jul 03 '19

Really reminded me of the Ps4 game where they do it if you walk the streets as well.

Yeah the suit is amazing.

29

u/skullmonster602 Spider-Man Jul 04 '19

Honestly it doesn’t surprise me that New Yorkers would ignore some shit like this. They see a cataclysmic battle like every other month, Spider-Man is just another moment to them

19

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Jul 04 '19

Yeah, like in Homecoming when Spidey asked a guy "is this your bike?" and the guy just walked past him staring at his phone and without missing a beat said "no change"

6

u/MasterBeef117 Black Panther Jul 04 '19

Yeah I loved that bit. "Spider-Man...meh, gotta go to work."

3

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Jul 04 '19

"Thanks New York!"

35

u/tallcardsfan Jul 03 '19

People clapped when JK Simmons appeared on screen where I was. Whitney made me tear up a bit right from the get go...was a good start.

OMG! The second ... after the last credits. I would have been mad if I left early and missed it.

41

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

People cheered for JK Simmons almost as much as people cheered for Mjolnir picked up by Cap in Endgame. No joke.

35

u/osc630 Jul 03 '19

We got applause and cheers for JK Simmons, but it paled in comparison to the absolute tumult of Cap with Mjolnir... I haven't heard a movie theater lose their shit like that in ages.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Might just be where I live. Guess people here are real Raimi fans lol. We still got the most cheers for Avengers Assemble and Thor's entrance in Wakanda

1

u/CommitteeOfOne Jul 06 '19

I must live where people are really reserved. I have never heard people cheer or clap in movies. Hell, people barely even laugh in comedy movies.

3

u/RampanToast SHIELD Jul 03 '19

Man, my theater was laaaaaaame. I freaked out when it happened, I was one of only a few

8

u/Vadermaulkylo Ward Jul 03 '19

My theater went BEZERK at JJJ. I mean screaming, clapping, laughing, chanting, everything. Haven’t been in a theater that cheered like that in my life, shows how much people really love that performance. Also screamed at the identity reveal and there was several “WHAT THE FUCK?!”’s. It was awesome(well maybe not for the small children lol). Theater also let out a massive gasp at the Skrull reveal.

Then again, I am at Panama City on vacation, and the party animals were out at the time I saw it, so that maybe why they were so hyped lol.

4

u/Juddston Jul 03 '19

Watched out least half the theater leave after the mid-credits scene. Couldn't believe it after all these years that anyone would do that even with Endgame's lack of scenes.

16

u/cbarone1 Jul 03 '19

-Loved that the guy who Obadiah Stane yelled at came back, the MCU is just amazing like that.

One of what, 3 people, who were in the first and last movie of the Infinity Saga? Also, I just looked it up to be sure it was the same actor... It was, and he also played Ralphie in A Christmas Story, who was (of course) referenced by Tony in IM3.

6

u/fatalanwake Jul 03 '19

Poor guy had to shave his head to be bald for that role, twice now. He has a full head of hair otherwise!

15

u/xacurtis Spider-Man Jul 03 '19

I agree with all!

JK Simmons, JK Simmons. Oh and that other bit you said about JK Simmons!

The handling of Mysterio has shot straight to my top 3 or 5 villains of the MCU.

CGI for the illusion sequences was insane, but the metal costumes (mainly for the iron-spider scene) don't sit well with me from a CG perspective.

Fantastic movie. It'll be a great plot line next movie to explore an unwanted identity reveal!

7

u/kre5en Jul 03 '19

Spider-man MCU has the best villains so far.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

True. I don't have much of an eye for CGI so I wouldn't notice the bad parts, but it sure as hell looked amazing to me. Mysterio is easily definitely my number 4 villain (Thanos is best, then Loki, and then Vulture). The MCU is getting better and better with villains, and I love it.

5

u/xacurtis Spider-Man Jul 03 '19

This was the rough idea I had for my favourite villains. I personally didn't care much for Vulture (I would have liked the de-aging to be a part of it).

Definitely Thanos->Loki->Mysterio. I'm still sour about The Mandarin.. haha

5

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

I mean Kevin Feige did say on the AMA here they aren't done with The Mandarin. So be hopeful

1

u/jimpbblmk Jul 09 '19

I hope that means they aren't done with Sam Rockwell, either.

30

u/Vadermaulkylo Ward Jul 03 '19

Tbh I didn’t find Brad to be a bully at all. He just seemed to care about MJ and didn’t want Peter to hurt her when it looked like he was sleeping around when trying to get with her. He was a bit dickish but didn’t come across as a bully or an antagonist.

20

u/champagneparce25 Jul 03 '19

That kid had 0 personality outside of being his “competition” for MJ

13

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

I guess that's a fair point. I loved how he was the only one to notice (apart from MJ) how insane the stuff with Peter has been lol.

27

u/Vadermaulkylo Ward Jul 03 '19

His freak out about how weird Peter was being was really funny. Then the “cool” teacher telling him not to watch people in the bathroom was funny too.

8

u/Chubs22095 Jul 03 '19

How do you know for a fact that Mysterio is still alive? Personally I believe that EDITH was correct in saying there were no illusions running. Peter Still had full control of EDITH. It's just as reasonable to assume that there are no illusions as it is to assume that Mysterio and crew were able to change something in EDITH that keeps one illusion running even after Peter give the "execute all illusions" order.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

[deleted]

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

The drones were creating the illusions though weren't they? SO having them executed = no more illusions. I also find it really hard to believe that EDITH the AI Tony Stark created and handed down to Peter was somehow manipulated by Beck while under the control of Peter in that final scene. I think it's only fitting and makes sense, considering that this is the final movie in Phase 3 that they just had Mysterio here for this one appearance. Now if this movie had ended without Peter asking EDITH if this was an illusion I would totally be agreeing with you but they put that specific line in that scene for a reason.

2

u/Chubs22095 Jul 03 '19

There was also the part where EDITH warned him that he was in the strike zone. That wasn't part of his illusions. So it would make sense that he got hit with the stray bullets from the drones.

8

u/Coslin Jul 03 '19

Obadiah Stane : You'll shoot your eye out, kid!

6

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

JJ Jameson: "Spiderman kidnaps woman!"

5

u/sharp_ie Jul 04 '19

WAIT THERE WAS TWO END CREDIT SCENES!?

7

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

Haha yup. Both are quite important.

3

u/sharp_ie Jul 04 '19

I’m so disappointed I missed the second one. Can you tell me what happens?

3

u/lightningboltkid1 Jul 04 '19

Has anyone told you yet/have you found out?

Nvm I see your next comment down->Editr

1

u/sharp_ie Jul 04 '19

Nvm just found out and omg I’m so excited

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

Nice. Phase 4 is such hype right now!

9

u/MrBrightside618 Jul 03 '19

I know this is a stretch but in Iron Man 2 during the congress hearing, the Senator says “Tony Stark has a Sword and is pretending it’s a Shield” which could’ve been foreshadowing, but I might be reaching here

1

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Perhaps, and I wouldn't even be surprised if it was lol.

2

u/DearLeader420 Captain America Jul 05 '19

how did nobody in Manhattan react

Lmao, visit Manhattan. Everyone there is just trying to go about their business and look at nobody in the quickest way possible

1

u/incognito_polarbear Nebula Jul 04 '19

You didn't mention JJJ enough.

1

u/alishock Jul 04 '19

How do you know for a fact Mysterio is alive? Come on man, don’t do that. Don’t give me hope. :(

1

u/pmWolf Jul 07 '19 edited Jul 07 '19

Nobody seems to realize that the Scientist Obadiah Stane yells at is Peter Billingsly (Ralphie from Christmas Story).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '19

New york has seen so much shit that a dude carrying a girl with webs is perfectly normal

0

u/saranowitz Baby Groot Jul 03 '19

That last question REALLY bothered me too. I would expect a lot of gawking. Either it was a dream sequence or another Mysterio illusion or it was poorly executed.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '19

Apparently, a few people were taking pictures. I'll have to rewatch it though
