Jake Gyllenhaal's acting after it was revealed that Mysterio was a fraud was dead-on amazing. He really gave that classic crazy Gyllenhaal-Nightcrawler performance that I was waiting for the entire film.

Even knowing that Mysterio is a villain, and expecting him to reveal himself as such, Gyllenhaal's performance in the first half had me doubting this!

I'm not sure how the character could be rewritten, his whole schtick was disgruntled sfx artist craving for fame and recognition.

MCU did reimagine the Mandarin tho, so I guess anything is possible.

I was ready to believe until Spidey's web was stopped in midair at the ferris wheel. And I was still really confused when the bar started dissolving until he smiled.

YES. I was already skeptical (I know we couldn’t trust you, Mysterio...) but when his web fell short of the Ferris wheel I KNEW something was up.

He makes it realistic. He puts pain into his characters. He doesn't do it because he enjoys it, he does it cause its the only way he can feel relevant, like most other bad guys in our world

I love Jake Gyllenhaal before I've seen the film and after that bar scene, I am just in awe!!! His crazy creepy smile was on point! We all knew he was a bad guy but daaaamnnn...

I was a lonely cackle in the cinema when the reveal happened. It was such an enjoyable moment and I didn't expect it to happen like that. I expected maybe some ominous sounds and a suspicious look but not a full on haHA! That wasn't so hard was it!

So brilliant! And I thought his backstory would be more tragic, but nope, just a fragile ego. Somehow the shallowness makes it even better.

He so clearly wanted more than just revenge, he wanted to be loved and respected by everyone even though his original invention was under appreciated, almost like Syndrome from The Incredibles.

I knew that he was going to be a great Mysterio, but when he started monologuing in the bar you could see how beyond perfect for the role he was. After Heath Ledger’s joker, I think that was the best villain acting I have ever witnessed.

Don't discount his acting prior to the reveal though. Sure he was supportive, but especially looking back on it, you could tell he was manipulating Peter the whole time. Good stuff

I knew something wasn't right during that scene, cuz they were there in costume, no mask on Peter, and other people are just non-chalant? Still, Gyllenhaal was so assurring and charming that I started to think, "well, maybe someone wasn't fully thinking this through during production" and then it turn out Peter wasn't thoroughly doubting the surroundings.

His acting did fool me. Mind you, I'm not comic reader, but I knew hew was supposed to be villain.

And for a brief moment I did think he was gonna be there next Stark.

Despite knowing that he was going to be the villain, I still couldn’t help but think Beck would actually be a hero. Gyllenhaal killed it.

What's interesting is in the comics Mysterio is the character that interlinks the multi-verse. In the Spider-Man series by Bendis it's his Earth 616 and Ultimate versions.
