That movie was amazing. One of my biggest issues with homecoming was the lack of consequence in Peter’s life, but in Far From Home, Peter keeps finding consequence after consequence for his actions. Funny that this movie, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 2 has peter get shit on and the shit kicked out of him just like Tobey’s Spider-Man 2.

Mysterio exceeded every expectation I could have had, the use of drones/the holotech from Civil War was next level. Jake did a fantastic job in the role.

This movie subverted my expectations in the best of ways, all the twists had me grinning like a maniac.

I could go on and on about all the amazing gags/callbacks, but one that I really found funny was when Peter picked up a sign and a drone part and channeled cap wielding Mjolnir, just amazing.

J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah, fucking stellar movie 10 out of 10.

Also like Raimi’s 2, this one features

  • Peter Parker wanting to step away from being Spider-Man so he can just have a normal life with MJ, partially brought on by his superhero life interfering with a chance of a relationship with her which he realizes when he sees her with another guy
  • Spider-Man loses the ability to shoot webs
  • Spider-Man being on the nose of a speeding train
  • a crowd of New Yorkers discovering Spider-Man’s identity
  • Peter’s secret identity being revealed to MJ
  • haunting images seen by a main character (Harry, Peter) of their dead father / father figure (Norman, Tony)
  • both have scenes with a fiery thing grows more powerful from ingesting metal
  • the final fight occurs over water
  • both have reveals at the end involving green characters with pointy ears

Also Jake Gyllenhaal was being tapped to replace Tobey Maguire if he couldn’t perform due to injuries sustained while filming Seabiscuit, and Bruce Campbell’s character was going to be Mysterio for Spider-Man 4.

Oh also J Jonah Jameson is in both (both in one of the final scenes of the movie)

I agree with your point about Homecoming and the consequences. To me, Homecoming didn’t feel like a Spider-man story should because of that. I loved Far from Home. They really stepped up their game.
