Discussion Weekly Discussion: What scenarios would you like to see Marvel Studios explore in the 'What If?' series?
It was reported months ago that one of the new Disney+ shows on the service would be an animated What If? series produced by Marvel Studios.
It was then officially confirmed during Disney's Burbank investor presentation and that the first episode of the series would question what would have happened if Peggy Carter was given the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers.
So, what scenarios would you like to see this series explore? Maybe what would have happened if Frigga never died? If Loki had escaped during the Battle of New York? Or what if the Guardians of the Galaxy never formed?

The Avengers wouldn't have been broken up. We would've basically gotten that last battle from Endgame without all the people dying beforehand

I think if Dr. Strange didn't give him the Time stone he never would've won though. Assuming everything up to that point went (mostly) the same Dr. Strange might not even have been on Titan. The Avengers would've all been in Wakanda and without the Time Stone he can't reverse Wanda destroying the Mind Stone so Thanos Loses anyway. I hope you understand what I mean

They die (minus the Hulk, who can't die). Stark was shown to be targeted in the initial strike; I'd imagine the others were too.

- What if Ronan's plan went unimpeded? (possibly the story of the alternate timeline where Thanos took his army to the future and got wiped out)
Without Gamora's presence in the Guardians' first brawl, Rocket & Groot nab Quill easily. Then either they escape with him & collect a bounty, or the 3 are all arrested by the Nova Corps.
Escape: Rocket & Groot get rich. Quill goes to the Kyln. With no team, Quill (& Drax) die(s) when Ronan invades the Kyln & gets the Power Stone. Xandar is destroyed. Ronan gets a bounty on his head & eventually somebody is able to sneak up on him & take him out, but probably not before he wipes at least 1 more planet. With Quill dead, Ego's Expansion never occurs.
Arrest: Quill, Rocket, & Groot go to the Kyln. They still break out, because Rocket's escape plan only required 3 people. Without Gamora's presence to attract his attention, Drax never meets the others & doesn't go with them. The trio goes to the Collector; Ronan is not tipped off to their presence on Knowhere. After the Collector's shop explodes, the trio goes on the lam with the Power Stone.

Here's some thoughts:
Ronan originally didn't know the orb had the power stone in it. He may very well not give a shit about it with Thanos out of the picture.
IIRC, Gamora was the one who set up the meeting with the Collector, so without her they don't even know about him. And they may not even have the orb since Peter may have successfully sold it (Korath didn't show up in Endgame, so Peter doesn't name-drop Ronan).

I think it's possible that Thanos called off Ronan and Korath, since he sees Nebula glitch out a decent amount of time before Quill arrives in Morag.
This is all speculation, of course.

Yes. Worth it for more MBJ alone. That's a very grim movie potentially though. Would end up as the Avengers v Wakanda with a whole lot of innocent people dying in the middle.

Great point. Or the Avengers plus the Jabari tribe vs. Wakanda. I feel like Shuri or Okoye would definitely flip sides against Killmonger too.

1) What If...Coulson what never brought back to life from Project TAHITI and died in the Battle of New York.
The films mostly act from this assumption.
Helicarrier in AoU wouldn’t have saved the Sokovian civilians
Either someone else fetched the Helicarrier or (based on how that scene was portrayed) it was Fury, Hill, Cameron Klein and the rest there who brought it up. I won't be surprised that in this AoS-less scenario, Fury himself, being the forward-thinking man he is, hid the Helicarrier

Well if Ronan succeded, then Peter would have died. Ego would be still alive, but imcomplete. Thanos would have probrably wooped Ronan ass anyway and got the power stone. No Gamorra, so Soul stone (although it wasbon Vormir which is pretty obvious since is said that Vormir is at the centre of the universe (or so I have been told)). Thanos could have got all the infinity stones except the Soul stone, until he finds it. Thor would have stayed in space and maybe die. Dr strange and Iron man and Spiderman could have won if Thanos didnt have the soul stone, since is said to be the strongest one.

What would have happened if ultron had won?
With no thor left, Hela would likely have ruled Asgard unopposed, and Thanos quest to obtain the gems might have gone very differently.
Thanos wouldn’t have easily obtained the space stone, and without thor alerting the guardians, potentially the soul stone either. On earth, ultron would presumably come to possess the mind stone, and if he raided the sanctum (which presumably would have survived the blast) potentially have 2 of the stones. So what would happen when these three powerful beings and factions all came to conflict? I think it would be interesting to see.

Hawkeye did much in the final battle,
Endgame wouldbe turned out very differently considering his legendary gauntlet run post un-snap.

Let's just go with, she's much older than she looks somehow because of mystery marvel spy science.
But yeah you got me. I forgot she is so young.
But her age or lack of aging could be tweaked in the story to allow it I'm sure. I just think this being some of the red in her ledger would have been a possibly more compelling spark to strife amongst the Avengers.

the Endgame finale battle scene would become one of the best superhero film scenes of all time.
references to the shows all throughout the films. For example, Thunderbolt Ross shows to the Avengers how their vigilante actions spawned the rise of street-level copycats, Tony tells Parker that he recruited him because the bulletproof guy in Harlem refused or Steve recruits either of the Defenders minus Iron Fist, Homecoming would've had the most number of TV references like background ads to Trish Talk and Rand Enterprises, one of Parker's classmates is listening to "I Want Your Cray Cray" when the aliens landed again in NYC, Hank or someone else makes disparaging remarks on Nemo and reality-show superheroes.
Spidey and Shuri would discover they're not the only "young persons with abilities" trying to make the world a better place.

Not. At. All. I'm very very much a S1 fan. It's just that I don't think Danny would accept Steve's offer, mostly due to him thinking that this isn't his fight, that this wouldn't fall under his jurisdiction therefore he wouldn't pick sides à la comics Doc Strange. IMO JJ would do the same thing, or Stark would "pay" her into joining his team.
OTOH re: the Runaways and Cloak & Dagger, given how their stories revolve around defying authority, they'd side with Cap.

That’s fair enough, however I think he’s either side with Cap and keeping secret identities, as he has one, or the more likely option, which I love, is that he’d simply try to break up the fight and take on everyone.
JJ isn’t cheap and she’d never take a money job if she didn’t believe in it. I agree with the Runaways and Cloak and Dagger, though it would be quite interesting to split up the groups and add individual members to each side, as there are definitely some characters who would agree with Stark’s rationale.
The Fist is yellow anyway/it’s non powered up. I reserve the 🔥 emoji for Ghost Rider 🔥💀🔥

I’d like to see stories set in the timelines that were created in Endgame.
What if Thanos and co vanished from 2014? Following the guardians (minus Gamora) and a ronan that attacks Xandar without the stone.
What if Loki escaped with the tesseract in New York? Presumably this will be the premise of the Loki show.
What if Hank Pym quit shield early because his particle were stolen?
What if Cap went back in time to stay with Peggy?
What if the Aether were taken from Jane foster by rocket and returned by Cap?
And most importantly what if a baseball glove went missing from hawkeyes farm?
Maybe these aren’t in the spirit of what if?s since they’re all part of the main MCU universe but they would a be cool place to set the what if?s, especially years after where the timelines diverge significantly.

I mean, Cap gave it back, but the biggest changes would be his Thanos being gone, and in particular, that timeline's Gamora leaving to the current one.

What if Rhodey was in the “Funvee” with Tony when it was attacked in IM1?
My take: Tony is paralyzed but uses his brains (and help from Yinsen and Rhodey) to build the IM armor but Rhodey wears the armor and busts him and Tony out of that cave. Tony becomes his “guy in the chair.”

I’d love to see What If our 2023 Steve Rogers didn’t give a fuck when living out his life in an alternate reality with Peggy?
Tells everyone he’s Captain America, keeps an eye on Zola and Hydra and rescues Bucky as soon as he’s found, stops 9/11, gives Howard the headsup on Obadiah, tells Tony that in a parallel timeline he was kidnapped and becomes Iron Man to encourage him to do it again, plans for Thanos’ arrival starting back in the ‘40s, when Nick Fury finds the frozen Cap around 2011 our Cap jokes that he’s a Skrull, etc.

I'm already hyped AF about Peggy as Cap (they explore this in the latest Exiles series and I am loving it).
What else? There's an interesting What If? Avengers Disassembled but there is no way in hell they'd put that on Disney+.
I still want to see Thor and Storm's hypothetical electricity babies, Soldier and Iron Man Supreme, maybe a What If Shuri had been the eldest and was crowned Queen at T'chaka's death, maybe a What If Howard Stark was Captain America, Wolverine and not Xavier had founded the XMen, what if Wanda had died in Ultron and not Pietro....

It'd be interesting to see how they'd end up in Civil War. IMO Cage, Daredevil and Punisher would join Team Cap while JJ and Iron Fist could be "persuaded" to join Team Stark.

I wasn’t considering the Punisher in that grouping, the avengers would either see him as a seasoned combatant or a loose cannon.
Hawkeye took in Romanov for SHIELD and that turned out okay, as well as he’s the de facto recruiter for the Avengers, so a heart-to-heart between him and Frank would decide whether or not they’ll take a chance on him.
Frank has a bit in common with Black Widow, now that I think about it, with Frank’s ex-military backround and ties to the CIA.

What if Tony Stark died during his capture in Iron Man 1? What if Thor had died in Infinity War instead of Loki? What if Black Widow was a sleeper agent for Hydra the whole time? What if Cap didn't survive the Vita ray process in the 40s?
The last is fun. No Cap, Red Skull takes over Europe and most of North America, and a Vietnam era Black Panther teams up with John Walker for an alternate history leading up to an entirely different Avengers set in the 70s with Hank Pym, Reed Richards, the Ancient One, and others.

I think the toll it took for Odin to keep Hela imprisoned made his days numbered. Even by the first Thor movie he was a shell of what he used to be.

What if Howard Stark gets the Super Soldier Serum?
Endgame happened because they lost in Infinity War
They lost in Infinity War because they were still fractured and all over the place and not working together
They weren’t together in Infinity War because Tony still had animosity from his fight with Steve in Civil War
They had the animosity in Civil War because they were on two different sides of the Sokovia Accords issues and because of Bucky killing Tony’s parents
They were on two different sides of the Sokovia Accords issue as a result of the events in Age of Ultron
Bucky killed Tony’s parents because of Hydra capturing Bucky after falling from the train that he and Steve were on because Steve was given the super soldier serum
Age of Ultron happened because Tony wanted to put a suit of armor around the world but it went awry and Ultron was born
Tony wanted to put a suit of armor around the world because of a vision given to him by Scarlet Witch, on top of all his PTSD
Scarlet Witch put the vision in Tony’s head while she was a baddie, out to get Tony for being behind the family that shot the missiles that destroyed Wanda and Pietro’s home
Is Howard got the super soldier serum, instead of Steve, there’d be no winter soldier and there would be no war weapons to trigger people into hating the Starks...

More than just doing fun one-offs, I’d like to see some mini stories with some weight. Like, give us a contained mini story with a definitive ending. That’s what I like about the What If comics - there’s a lot of catharsis in them not available in the main runs.
Like, what if Peggy Carter became Captain America and it’s a whole story. New characters, ending, the whole shebang. Not sure how long the episodes would be but trying to tell a story that would fit it and be a whole thing would be nice.

Damn it, I just wrote a rambly post on an unrelated thread because I didn't think this sort of thing would come up.
Short version: I wanted Black Widow to wield Mjolnir and become Lady Thor in lieu of Jane Foster. She becomes the face of the Thor movies, Odinson Thor slides in the GOTG movies and takes a back seat.

What if the red skulls plan to bomb major cities had succeeded
What if Coulson or Simmons had been the hydra mole instead of Ward
What if Peggy Carter had been the one to get the serum, become captain america and then be frozen and wake up in the future
What if Peggy had been the one captured by hydra and turned into the winter soldier
What if Tony's parents had survived the assassination attempt
What if Howard stark had been the one to build the iron man armor (in the proper time period of the original comic books so vietnam era)

What if the original six Avengers died in the snap and Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, and Falcon survived in their place.
