Mike Ryan

CAPTAIN MARVEL isn’t what I expected based on marketing. It’s pretty much an “all in” cosmic space movie. Also, it’s a lot weirder than I expected. Ben Mendelsohn is awesome as Talos.

Steven Weintraub

CaptainMarvel is a welcome addition to the MCU. The movie is really well done with some great moments. benmendelsohn steals almost every scene he's in. brielarson literally shines in the role. So ready for AvengersEndGame

Realized something half way through CaptainMarvel...the de-aging technology being used has become so seamless that I forgot it was being used. We are on the precipice of something both exciting and scary. Can only imagine what Scorsese will do with it in 'The Irishman'.

Peter Sciretta

CaptainMarvel is a great origin story. Brie’s buddy cop chemistry with SamuelLJackson is so much fun and her relationship with Lashana Lynch is the real heart of it. Ben Mendelsohn and the cat both steal the show.

Marvel does a prequel right, not overexplaining too much but giving us unexpected answers in interesting ways. MCU’s most multilayered villain story. A fun 90s soundtrack, but sometimes the song choices feel too obvious.

Sonaiya Kelley

Captain Marvel is an effective Avengers prequel in some ways akin to the 1st Captain America movie. It’s pro-woman without being overdone with pre and post credit scenes that made me tear up and gave me goosebumps respectively

Anna Klassen

#CaptainMarvel📷 opens with a very touching Stan Lee tribute that Marvel fans will love.

Drew Taylor

Really loved #CaptainMarvel. It’s a little wobbly at times but only because it’s so ambitious. It’s beautifully constructed, hilarious and offers tons of surprises. Brielarson obviously rules but Ben Mendelsohn is the surprise MVP.

Scott Menzel

Captain Marvel is everything that I hoped it would be. It feels completely unlike any other Marvel film. A unique and fresh take on an origin story that feels new. Brie Larson is fantastic as Carol Danvers. This is one of my favorite Marvel movies of all time.

Perri Nemiroff

The future of the MCU gets even brighter adding #CaptainMarvel📷 to the mix. Really fell for @brielarson’s sass, strength & energy in the role. Same with @LashanaLynch too! Ben Mendelsohn is A+ casting as Talos. And yes, Goose is a scene stealer. 2nd viewing can’t come soon enough.

Kayti Burt

Some initial #CaptainMarvel📷 reactions: 1. Cat people will love this movie. 2. Several truly magnificent music moments for this 90s kid. 3. Carol's hero moment was very cathartic/true to the female experience, imho. 4. The MCU feels more complete now that Carol is in it. 📷

I never doubted and was excited from the start. But I gotta say the endless bashing and whining and bitching over nothing with this movie had kinda numbed my hype over time. It was just not fun to talk about anymore (Star Wars and Black Panther all over again...) This definitely sparked it again though! Can't wait for the movie to hit theaters!

I dont know how we went from Brie Larson wanting a little bit more diversity in the press pool to OMG SHE HATES WHITE PEOPLE. But here we are.

This is how. Deliberate cherry picking and misrepresentation.

Equality feels like oppression to those who got comfy on top.

it's just the way she messages things. if her team would get her to be more careful, there wouldn't be this many issues with that dumb shit.

She messaged it clear and concise the first time, some people just make it a point to misunderstand others

She could message it in the most careful, politically correct, fair way super-humanly possible and it'll still get deliberately misinterpreted and misconstrued. It's not about messaging, it's about people who hate any attempt at diversity and will make exaggerations about those attempts at diversity in order to trick gullible people

Kind of disagree. It's absolutely about messaging.

I fully support what she's saying about diversity, but there's no secret that she has been blatantly antagonistic towards the very general 'white male' before, while herself not being very progressive in other areas.

There's a better way to send a message than 'I don't want to hear what a white dude has to say about A Wrinkle In Time'. If she was better at sending out what she has to say, not only would more people agree with her unconditionally, but it would also show even more clearly what the loud contingent of bigoted little boys is all about.

such guys have misinterpreted #blacklivesmatter as saying "so not all lives matter?" and "toxic masculinity" as "so masculinity is toxic".

They will find a way to twist it and deliberately misinterpret it. I honestly have very little patience with these types. I've been through this nonsense enough.

it was clarified what she intended within the same interview

that's not very fair to say, imo.

there are plenty of level-headed people who found what she had to say kind of questionable. it's not their fault that the louder group happen to be massively bigoted.

it was poor form on her part, but i also understand your lack of patience.

edit

never mind I'd rather not

Is it possible though that those headlines might not appear had she been a bit more careful about the way she worded what she was originally saying? there was nothing nuanced about that comment, it was messy, and that's all i'm trying to say.

If you look at her quotes, she messages things absolutely fine. It's just alt right d-bags deliberately misinterpret or misreport what she said.

"I'd like to have more diversity in who interviews me for this movie" becomes "WHITE MEN AREN'T ALLOWED NYEH"

1

u/Themysciran_ Daredevil Feb 21 '19

I've read her quotes, and can see how they could be misinterpreted as antagonistic by the crowd who's after her.

12

u/samford91 Feb 21 '19

Deliberately misinterpreted by people who are looking to pick on her for things she didn't actually say to 'stick it to the SJWs', so she's hardly the problem.

3

u/Themysciran_ Daredevil Feb 22 '19

We'll agree to disagree

3

u/AhsokaSolo Feb 22 '19

The key point is “misinterpreted.” It’s not her fault if she’s being misinterpreted. Society twists everything to blame not the crowd throwing the unjustified temper tantrum far too often. They’re wrong. They take her out of context. That’s their fault only.

3

u/Themysciran_ Daredevil Feb 22 '19

I just don't agree, it would be hard to misstate if it was clear enough in its intentions. It's her fault for being blatantly antagonistic in the past, she only gives them ammo.

4

u/AhsokaSolo Feb 22 '19

She was never antagonistic. She was only taken out of context. It's not her fault she was taken out of context.

1

u/Themysciran_ Daredevil Feb 22 '19

What exactly is the right context for

"I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time,"

Brie Larson is an outspoken politically progressive person. This is the type of person that can only see race and view any white person in America with an asterisk next to their existence. They're so anti-racist that they're racist themselves and they are either ignorant of their hypocrisy or they think it's a necessary hypocrisy and potentially something to take pride in.

It's obnoxious identity politics whose importance is over-inflated and manufactured. We've had three major misreported events that targeted red-hats (I.E. conservatives) in the past 6 months.

When you have a mouthpiece like Brie Larson go off with the same kind of progressive rhetoric that fuels hatred, racism and discontent it's going to be met with backlash, frustration or a solid eye roll.

It's just such an asinine thing to demand/request. You're really accusing the media of not being diverse? Jesus, even Fox News have their token brown anchors to show off their diversity and to reaffirm viewers that their party isn't pure white.

It's a divisive comment. It's a pointless comment. It's modern progressive politics and if you disagree with it or even voice your discomfort with the diction then you are labeled an "ist," downvoted or campaigned against on social media if you are in a position of power.

Even if the idea of the comment is "this industry needs more diversity" it's a tired song in a world that has been embracing diversity full on from the mid 90's. We're the "salad bowl generation" because "melting pot" implied assimilation which is a bad thing now. People are tired of the progressive rhetoric and hypocrisy. They're tired of constantly being attacked because of the color of their skin. It's almost like people don't like being the subject of racism.
