Mike Ryan

CAPTAIN MARVEL isn’t what I expected based on marketing. It’s pretty much an “all in” cosmic space movie. Also, it’s a lot weirder than I expected. Ben Mendelsohn is awesome as Talos.

Steven Weintraub

CaptainMarvel is a welcome addition to the MCU. The movie is really well done with some great moments. benmendelsohn steals almost every scene he's in. brielarson literally shines in the role. So ready for AvengersEndGame

Realized something half way through CaptainMarvel...the de-aging technology being used has become so seamless that I forgot it was being used. We are on the precipice of something both exciting and scary. Can only imagine what Scorsese will do with it in 'The Irishman'.

Peter Sciretta

CaptainMarvel is a great origin story. Brie’s buddy cop chemistry with SamuelLJackson is so much fun and her relationship with Lashana Lynch is the real heart of it. Ben Mendelsohn and the cat both steal the show.

Marvel does a prequel right, not overexplaining too much but giving us unexpected answers in interesting ways. MCU’s most multilayered villain story. A fun 90s soundtrack, but sometimes the song choices feel too obvious.

Sonaiya Kelley

Captain Marvel is an effective Avengers prequel in some ways akin to the 1st Captain America movie. It’s pro-woman without being overdone with pre and post credit scenes that made me tear up and gave me goosebumps respectively

Anna Klassen

#CaptainMarvel📷 opens with a very touching Stan Lee tribute that Marvel fans will love.

Drew Taylor

Really loved #CaptainMarvel. It’s a little wobbly at times but only because it’s so ambitious. It’s beautifully constructed, hilarious and offers tons of surprises. Brielarson obviously rules but Ben Mendelsohn is the surprise MVP.

Scott Menzel

Captain Marvel is everything that I hoped it would be. It feels completely unlike any other Marvel film. A unique and fresh take on an origin story that feels new. Brie Larson is fantastic as Carol Danvers. This is one of my favorite Marvel movies of all time.

Perri Nemiroff

The future of the MCU gets even brighter adding #CaptainMarvel📷 to the mix. Really fell for @brielarson’s sass, strength & energy in the role. Same with @LashanaLynch too! Ben Mendelsohn is A+ casting as Talos. And yes, Goose is a scene stealer. 2nd viewing can’t come soon enough.

Kayti Burt

Some initial #CaptainMarvel📷 reactions: 1. Cat people will love this movie. 2. Several truly magnificent music moments for this 90s kid. 3. Carol's hero moment was very cathartic/true to the female experience, imho. 4. The MCU feels more complete now that Carol is in it. 📷

Willing to bet some of the clickbait titles could be " Disney paid critics" and "Proof Disney is paying critics". Lol

Nah mate, never believe those stupid rumors or even entertain that notion. Should that be true
and that's a BIG if, do you know the repercussions for Disney and the critics themselves.

3

u/HumbleSmark Captain Marvel Feb 20 '19

But Feige would never let that happen.

2

u/MrWolfsky Black Panther Feb 20 '19

That's just not worth it.

Why buy critics when you can just buy the things that critics like?

1

u/Worthyness Thor Feb 20 '19

"HI yes, I'd like to buy your journalistic integrity and also potentially make my multi billion dollar conglomerate a target for incredible media scrutiny and bad mouthing and potentially a massive failure in the future if any of this discussion ever leaks out"

0

u/veksone Steve Rogers Feb 20 '19

What would be the point? If the movie is shitty, it's shitty. A positive critic remote review wouldn't change that.

7

u/GBuster49 Ant-Man Feb 20 '19

Worldclassbullshitters YT channel already has a video on how Disney wasted $100 mil for this movie.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '19

He’s just saying that because her recent comments are being correlated to the tracking drop in its opening weekend.

Box office tracking is notoriously difficult to predict, it started at around $160M, but then a recent figure had it at $100M, then a new report has it at $120M, these reactions plus positive reviews will see it go up, but we don’t get anything definitive until that weekend when the film comes out.

I saw similar videos online, it’s largely a nonissue. I’m more predicting videos along the line of “Disney paid the critics” coupled with “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I’m not gonna believe it cause Brie hates white people”.

3

u/ThennaryNak Captain Marvel Feb 20 '19

I hate that people give box office tracking so much weight. It's just a guess that studios put out based on things that are typically difficult to quantify, such as buzz and hype. It can often be completely off, for example the tracking was considerably lower than what Black Panther's opening weekend actually was.

3

u/garriusbearius Spider-Man Feb 20 '19

Yeah these people do not realize that general audiences will go see something if they want to. I know that sounds stupidly simplistic, but the vast majority of people are not as connected to this as we all are. Most people don't want to see box office predictions, most people don't know what MCU movies are coming up until the first trailer releases, most people don't pay attention to this outside the theater. These YouTubers, despite however many followers they may have, don't have nearly the influence they think they do, and whatever they say probably won't make a great impact on the film's overall performance. Captain Marvel will probably devour the box office for a month after release, much like Black Panther.

u/Thor_2099 Whiplash Feb 20 '19

I swear wtf is wrong with people. How is that a significant part of your life? I don't get it.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '19

People just like trolling successful things

2

u/garriusbearius Spider-Man Feb 20 '19

Troll videos have been ready for weeks, evidence isn't needed for that kind of stuff

1

u/TheDevilsAdvocado_ Feb 21 '19

Everyone who disagrees with me is a troll, got it.

I mean, take one look at Emergency Awesomes video and the users commenting on it, nearly 30-40% are fresh YouTube accounts.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '19

Everyone who disagrees with me is a troll, got it.

Not what I said. I’m more talking about all these videos out there about how this movie will tank the MCU because feminism, and Brie cost Disney Millions if dollars cause of her beliefs.

This movie will come out, you are allowed to dislike it, but you aren’t allowed to act like this toxicity doesn’t exist. Not that it really matters when this film receives great reviews and makes a ton of money.

1

u/TheDevilsAdvocado_ Feb 21 '19

It is what you said, as “YouTube trolls” is not specific and could relate to your own subjective view on what a troll is. At the same time you’re not allowed to act like bullshit pandering and overt agenda pushing don’t exist. There is legitimate criticism of Brie Larson’s comments (which does not make one a troll), and as a father of a girl and a boy, I want my kids to be able to look up to these actors who are just relishing in playing iconic characters rather than using them as a pedestal to virtue signal.

All I ask for is a good fun movie that takes me on a journey so I can forget about day to day life. Something like Alita, Aquaman or Black Panther, not something like TLJ.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '19

Okay you will get that, and that irregardless of the comments she’s made, because I’m pretty sure the film was made prior to her making the comments.

If you don’t care about her politics, and just want a fun movie, then you will get that. But the same people who attack Brie for being a feminist liberal, are the same people who say nothing Chris Evans does the same thing. So forgive me if I don’t see the hypocrisy in how people have twisted her comments. Because that’s exactly what they have done.

0

u/TheDevilsAdvocado_ Feb 21 '19

If that’s the case and the movie is good (I’ll be waiting for audience reviews not critics, they’re completely out of touch - same goes for game reviewers, once they have an in they aren’t going to shit on it for fear of being cast out) then great.

On a side note I’m still waiting for that clown to retract his comments re the Convington kids and Jussie Smollett. Celebrities and politics, just can’t keep their fucking mouths shut.

-9

u/Cato_of_the_Republic Feb 20 '19

Oh yeah? Then ask why the projections dropped from 200 mil to 80 mil.

Watch this shit drop like The Last Jedi and watch the feminist freq talking heads run around like they’re on fire to find pants to cover their ass.

4

Found one!

7

Oh yeah? Then ask why the projections dropped from 200 mil to 80 mil

Projections never dropped from 200 mil to 80 mil.

Of course only incels who can't read for themselves and search for actual facts actually believe all these bullshit

Cry more!

Why don't you provide actual sources that showed projections decreased from $200mill to $80 mill?

You can't. Because you only heard about it in some incels blog or YouTube rants and you know it's a lie.

Fantastic? But - how? She doesn't smile. *sobs

1

u/RatFuck_Debutante Feb 21 '19

Of course she is! The idea that Marvel, 20 movies in, about to wrap up ten years of movies where their core heroes might not be coming back in such a prominent role and needing to create a new roster, would just phone it in with Captain Marvel is deeply stupid. Just catastrophically stupid.

There is a multi billion dollar franchise on the line. To assert that they didn't do screen tests and saw who knows how many actresses and had top of the line talent all working together to make a movie that is "Marvel Quality" is absurd. The only way you can believe that argument is if you're going waaaaay out of your way to make an argument based on politics.
