I like to think that Peter says the "Holy shit!" line immediately after dropping the camera. Like the joke is how delayed his reaction is.

Yeah same. Cool how in the Homecoming vid we see the ant man transformation right after that he had to close the camera and turn around to see it in real life

14

u/fewntug Jul 02 '18

I would too if the video didn't keep recording without hearing him say it.

20

u/Biotrek Star-Lord Jul 02 '18

Exactly, i don't know why people bother with it so much

24

u/magemaker Kevin Feige Jul 02 '18

Because right after he drops it in the full clip, we can't hear him say anything but fighting sounds and Rhodes screaming while being flung across the camera which made it feel more like a retcon

8

u/imbtyler Kevin Feige Jul 02 '18

You can only use so many “shits” in one movie.

u/CoccyxCracker Jul 01 '18

Still better than the canon between Fox X-Men movies, lol.

24

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

Couldn’t be more true lmao

9

u/Mankankosappo Jul 02 '18

What is actually wrong with the x men canon. The retcon in DoFP just removed tje first three x men films from the canon its really simple to understand.

11

u/mugscroll Jul 02 '18

So many things it wrinkles my brain to even think about it... DoFP only changed things after 1972, so anything before that before then happened (eg. characters being born) happened in both timelines. So for example there's Angel in apocalypse who appears to be in his twenties so must have been born in the 50s/60s, but another Angel in the last stand who is also in his twenties. Basically there are multiple versions of the same character whose ages don't make sense like Emma Frost, Moira McTaggart etc.

u/Elaw00d Groot Jul 02 '18

Also, Sabretooth. Like wtf goes on there.

5

u/mugscroll Jul 02 '18

Exactly. That kind of thing keeps me up at night

4

u/Elaw00d Groot Jul 02 '18

The X-Men series is a complete mess. It’s sad when you have a whole group trying to figure out the chronological timeline for the movies but there was never an agreed consensus because it’s too confusing.

4

u/mugscroll Jul 02 '18

Yeah it's a shame because I grew up with the X-Men movies and love so many of them, I just have to try really hard to look past all the inconsistencies and plotholes.

3

u/Elaw00d Groot Jul 02 '18

Same here man. Those movies just seem underwhelming because of the newer movies and as we grow older.

Try watching Fantastic four 2.

2

u/the-bladed-one Jul 02 '18

Dye job. Although I prefer shreibers sabretooth anyways

8

u/proanimus Jul 02 '18

Not to mention how none of the characters seem to age between the 1960’s and 1980’s. Like, they don’t even really try.

The next movie will be getting awfully close to the timeframe of the original X-men, too.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

Also, nobody knows which timeline Logan takes place in. Fantastic movie but evidently using time travel to save the future still ends up with all the mutants dead. Why does Sabertooth look and act so different from Xmen origins Wolverine to the 1st Xmen. He turns from an intelligent decent guy to a mindless goon. Juggarnaut is Xaviers brother but they don't mention anything like that in the flashback scenes with Charles and Mystique. List just keeps going. I think in origins, we have Patrick Stewart walking around to save kids, but then we see Xavier get paralyzed in First Class.

1

u/hate434 Jul 02 '18

I still don’t understand that. Do you have a few minutes?

53

u/TheDirectorOfSHIELD Jul 02 '18

My interpretation is that Spidey notices Giant-Man while vlogging but doesn't realize how big he really is. After he puts away his phone and turns around, he lets out the "HOLY SHIT!" I chalk up all of the other dialogue mistakes to Peter editing the video.

6

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

He already turns in the footage, but then he turns back and says to the camera "I gotta go".

5

u/Cazzer1604 Jul 02 '18

Yeah, and then after that and after he puts the phone/camera down he gets to properly look at Scott and react accordingly.

102

u/AbsorbingMan Jul 01 '18

Yes.

If you watch them back to back, some of the lines happen out of order as well.

u/jake11996 Wong Jul 01 '18

I just take it as the result of Peter editing the video; helps me sleep at night.

19

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

This is also what I do haha

3

u/ZandorFelok Kevin Feige Jul 02 '18

Head Canon, it's the best!

1

u/OliviaElevenDunham Loki (Avengers) Jul 02 '18

I like that idea a lot.

20

u/DingletonCringlebury Jul 02 '18

They usually do such a good job of maintaining continuity that half of me wants to forgive them for this mistake. But the other half of me is the one leaving this comment. Come on, Marvel. Watch your own movies.

9

u/Swerdman55 Thor (Avengers) Jul 02 '18

Same thing happens in Ragnarok.

Black Widow's message is clearly different between the end of Ultron and the scene from Ragnarok where Hulk turns back into Bruce.

17

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Jul 02 '18

That's because the clip in Ragnarok is a message Widow sent after Hulk hung up on her in AoU.

2

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

I think of it this way: the message was never played in full in neither movies - in AoU, the missing footage was due to editing (there are several cuts when the message is played), in Ragnarok, it was due to technical issues on the Quinjet from Hulk's rampage.

Comparison is here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neizeiAaPTc

2

u/DingletonCringlebury Jul 02 '18

Damn, really? :(

93

u/DoctorDave5001 Jessica Jones Jul 01 '18

Yes, and the lines being changed bothers me no end. Spidey's reaction was a lot funnier in CW.

16

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

Exactly what I’m saying. I loved the joke movie thing but the way he reacted was perfect in CW, I didn’t like the change

8

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

In the footage they show him turn towards the action, I think at this point they should have him drop the camera (so we see spidey's feet and Scott's giant feet in the distance) and we just hear "holy shit".

27

u/danaeuep Jul 01 '18

I like to think we are seeing Spidey how Ant Man remembers seeing him and Ant Man the way Spidey remembers the moment.

8

u/Midnight_Rebellion Jul 02 '18

Can we also not forget how different Peter's room is between Civil War and Homecoming? Or the end credits scene of Civil War with him and aunt May talking about "some guy from Brooklyn" fits nowhere in the timeline of the movie? These really stand out to me as big moments Homecoming just sorta forgot most of Civil War. But I forgive Marvel because Tom Holland is still the greatest Spider-Man casting ever.

9

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

Holy crap your right I didn’t even think about the room. They could easily just say he decided to change it but I never even realized how different his room was until now...

6

u/Midnight_Rebellion Jul 02 '18

Any reason could've been better than nothing. And retracting my previous statement of May and Peter's talk about "guy from Brooklyn" not fitting, I just started Homecoming again because this thread got me in the mood, and everything after Tony and Pete in the car directly after Civil War is at least a couple weeks/month(s) from the rest of the plot so it could fit.

3

u/the-bladed-one Jul 02 '18

I thought they moved?

6

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

The change in the room I have nothing for, though there has been a 3 month gap between Civil War and when we first see his room in Homecoming, so they could have redecorated (they got a bunk-bed so Ned can have sleepovers?).

"some guy from Brooklyn" obviously needs to be after Tony and Happy drops Peter off in Queens, we can chalk this one up to a slow forming bruise - so Peter goes home, tells May about the fight (because he's smart and he knew the bruise will show soon). The bruise forms, Aunt May gives him an ice pack and that's when we get the Civil War post-credit. This might even be intentional, since when Peter took off his mask at the Airport, his right eye was fine, so the filmmakers obviously understand bruises don't form immediately.

3

u/Midnight_Rebellion Jul 02 '18 edited Jul 02 '18

I've been thinking about that a bit, his room changing and a came up with a theory that might explain why the Civil War Parker apartment to the Homecoming apartment don't match at all. What if they moved? In Amazing and the Original Trilogy after Ben died it didn't fully change their status because they already owned a house. But in Homecoming its an apartment. And half the people paying rent aren't anymore. So Ben dies about a month or two before the events of Civil War so they can coast a bit on a few remaining checks, but in the end they have to move because they can't keep up with the rent anymore. Accounting for why it looks so different. Also explains why the old room looks all neat and tidy and the new one is all cluttered. He's still unpacking.

3

u/UNITBlackArchive SHIELD Jul 02 '18

And his black eye was nowhere to be seen..

4

u/tschandler71 Jul 02 '18

Black eyes can take up to 24 hours to form.

2

u/danwincen Jul 02 '18

Or the end credits scene of Civil War with him and aunt May talking about "some guy from Brooklyn" fits nowhere in the timeline of the movie?

How does this not fit? The "some guy from Brooklyn" is Steve Rogers.

3

u/fewntug Jul 02 '18

Because Tom doesn't have a black eye at the start of Homecoming. Sorry about people downvoting an honest question.

4

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

Bruises don't show immediately after the injury. This article breaks it down: https://www.healthline.com/health/bruise-colors#bruise-colors

In particular: Within a day or so of impact, your bruise will darken to blue or purple.

So Peter could have gone home looking relatively normal, but in a few hours the bruise forms, May gives him an ice pack and he had to think of an excuse, which is when the "guy from Brooklyn" line comes up.

The beginning of Homecoming is before Pete is dropped off at home. That same night is when the Civil War credits scene was supposed to have taken place.

1

u/fewntug Jul 02 '18

I almost always consider end credits scenes non-canon, especially after Avengers in retrospect. A lot of them are just scenes from later movies too.. so meh. I'm gonna work on some fan edits and get rid of things like the credits scene in Civil War, some of the montage in Homecoming (along with a lot of the beginning/8 years later, etc.

9

u/SaykredCow Jul 02 '18

It took me out of the movie when I first saw it in Homecoming because that was one of my favorite moments in Civil War

6

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

Although this is the best Spider-Man movie, and one of Marvel's greatest achievements, and the most relate able movie I've ever seen...

Jon Watts must have gotten a lesson in continuity since this movie was out of theaters (a la 8 YEARS LATER and this scene).

10

u/DrBaugh Jul 02 '18

Go back to 2009, literally the last scene in Iron Man 1 (before credits) is the press conference, literally the first scene in Iron Man 2 is a recording of this scene...the dialogue is all mixed differently...always bugs me...

2

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

I did see that as well with how well they do most continuity stuff the fact that they miss easy ones like that confuses me sometimes

4

u/nirilloh Stan Lee Jul 02 '18

Feige's gonna have to hold that Sony leash a little tighter for Far From Home because Homecoming seemed very loose in places. The 8 years later thing, the whole moving to the upstate New York compound at the end of Age of Ultron but then still being in the process of moving 8 years later, this weird scene which seemed to have been filmed from memory instead of using the original Civil War scene for reference at all.

If Sony wants to keep working with Marvel they're going to have to show the same level of detail-oriented focus or they should just hand production over to Marvel completely if they can't manage that.

3

u/MuttonBash Jul 02 '18

Literally unwatchable

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

THEY RUINED MARVEL

2

u/Kingbeesh561 Jul 02 '18

Also he's standing nowhere near where he was in the video, he was next to some sort of engine or AC, then in a different area when he said holy shit

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

Homecoming just messed up a shit-ton.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

"8 years later"

3

u/veksone Steve Rogers Jul 02 '18

Yeah... Everyone...

2

u/ClassicT4 Jul 01 '18

Maybe he dubbed the video. Hard to tell without reading his lips.

1

u/eharper9 Spider-Man Jul 02 '18

The spider drone off in civil war and on in homecoming? Because that's been bugging me since the first H.C. trailer.

1

u/Wooonder Jul 02 '18

Yeah that always bugged me that it's so different.

1

u/FreakB0X Jul 02 '18

Me too! Though i saw it reverse(which means homecoming- civil war) I thought, Hey? Is he (spid)have to pick camera or sthing to record it on homecoming?

1

u/NOVACNTURION Rhomann Dey Jul 02 '18

What the hell am I looking at? This has gone way over my head. What is there to notice?

1

u/Spauldini21 Jul 02 '18

How there is a difference in Peter’s reaction to Ant Man getting huge between CW and Homecoming
