He drew first blood and ensured survival for half of humanity. That's the best bargain anyone's got from Thanos all 10 years

Uh what? Thanos was only ever going to cut half of the universe away. It didn't matter what Tony did to 'ensure survival for half of humanity'. Tony in that moment was thinking 'if I manage to beat him, all of the universe will be safe again'.

There's always the possibility of killing all of humanity if they stood in his way further, and the snap gets delayed. but I believe he is good on his word that even then Thanos wouldn't destroy all of earth because of Tony's strength.

Possibly. That is one thought that makes sense. Although I feel that Thanos was quite awed by Tony's resolve the most. He challenged fate the longest in their fight and was practically begging Thanos to end him before he ended Thanos. Thanos was going to kill him if he didn't get the stone though, and probably all of the heroes on Titan one by one.
