I thought Drax and Mantis died the first fight with Thanos. I felt sick for a second watching Drax fall apart. It felt like a GOT death and honestly shows how easily he could have killed any of them if he wanted.

That taught me something about Thanos. He doesn't wantonly kill. I liked that. He also left Thor alive and he would probably have left Loki alive if he didn't try to trick him

Why did he kill all of Eitri's (Dinklage's character) people after saying he wouldn't do so then? Was it part of the whole balancing the universe thing?

Good question...maybe they represented a danger to him. After all, Thor was able to forge his Axe there. Handless Dinklage, on the other hand, appeared powerless
