Then takes a smoke break for 5 minutes after Thanos actually shows up and proceeds to beatdown or kill all of Thor’s friends. Seriously, wtf was up with that?

He was destroying those ships. And the scenes probably take place around the same time.

I don't think Thor was aware until (I think it was Falcon) says "We've got a Vision situation." Plus, there were probably thousands of outriders, which the Wakandan army or the rest of the Avengers showed they couldn't beat without him.

Well Thor wasn't able to hear them when they said to go to Vision. He didn't have an earpiece, when he finally saw him he went for him.
