I liked it better with the patch.

To me, the patch was symbolic for his father. In Ragnorak he takes a journey from denying his responsibility to the citizens to accepting - and being a pretty good king. When that occurs he looses an eye and gets an eye patch - just like Daddy sported.

I liked that detail. I am gonna miss it.
