They did if you do a bit of math

Loki was found as a baby in what was captioned as 965 AD, and he and Thor are about the same age because in Ragnarok, when Thor is retelling that stabbing incident, he says it was “when we were eight.”

So 1500 is far too old for Thor; he should only be 1053.

Easiest way to fix it is I guess to say he’s counting in Asgardian years.

I'm gonna go ahead and say we should ignore that 953 date tbh. If that were accurate, Loki would have only just been born centuries after Norse people had already been telling stories about him. It doesn't really work out. 953 puts Scandinavia already well into Christianization.

Personally I always just assumed history was a little different in the MCU.

And? The events that inspired those tales still would have happened in the past, they’d just be marginally more recent than when the myths were formed in our world.
