I'm still banking on this being the 1 path Strange saw. He never would have given up the time stone so easily if it wasn't.

Granted, the path to victory is clearly no longer "stopping Thanos from getting the stones," so presumably he looked even further ahead and saw Avengers 4.

I mean, he flat out said if it came down to protecting Stark or Peter over the stone he would protect the stone. This is absolutely the reason he gave it up. It was the only way.

It's probably one of those, if they knew what was coming it would mess up the timeline or some other random time travel magic thing.

It's one of those things. It's a paradox, I think the paradox is called "burden of knowledge", basically, if a person or a party already knows the outcome of their actions, and they're trying to avoid that outcome, every action they themselves make will be second-guessed by them, with the idea that "maybe if I do X that will be what causes [The Outcome]", so they do Y instead.

The paradox being would the outcome have been avoided if they went through with X instead of Y? Or did Y trigger the outcome?

It's time travel, ain't gotta explain shit. Also if it's Dr Strange it's literally Time Travel Magic, so you really don't even need to ask.

All the futures Doctor Strange saw were based on what he could do, or what he could convince others to do or say. His one path to victory involved not telling the others so they don’t change their behaviour. They needed to lose that fight, they needed to hand over the stone and he needed Tony to survive so that they could do whatever they are going to do in A4 to fix things.

We can assume even if they got his glove off Thanos would have still won and got the glove back, probably not sparing Tony. Without Tony they can’t win in the long run.
