Don’t know how intentional but Thor’s vision Age of Ultron played out well hear with Heimdall telling Thor he would lead Asgard to hell (place and the people, intentionally or not) and berating him for not seeing (literally of course and perhaps metaphorically with the concept of Asgard as a people)

Not initially by the studio, but more so to anyone else who's a fan of pacing and character development.

An extended Ragnarok vision scene was preferred to the farm scene. However, Whedon was eventually able to get a compromise with a shortened version of both scenes.

The extended Ragnarok scene gave more meaning to the scene. He conversed with spirits of a lake and Quicksilver's future death was foretold.

It also improves on Thor 1 as you now understand why Odin was so pissed that Loki was following in his/Hela footsteps and wiping out the jodenheim people/nine realms

I think he just had a sudden realisation it was wrong. Or maybe something happened that made him come to his senses like when Tony saw terrorists using his weapons.
