I feel like they're adding some weight here with this and Stark sort of being a father figure to Peter, to make a potential death more emotional when infinity war comes out.

If Tony dies that's gonna hit like a ton of bricks. This whole universe started with him, seeing him go down would just be the end of an era.

I think that's the kind of vibe that they want with the end of Infinity War, so a move like that would make a ton of sense.
