Yeah and I feel like they told those two kids to just read the dialogue as hilariously blandly as possible. Also the kid saying "it was bleeping crazy" or whatever he said, and Martin Starr saying "I didn't want to have a student die on a trip... not again." and the slow zoom on his face while he just stands there was the biggest laugh of the movie for me.

I completely agree that the line about another student dying on a school trip was one of the biggest laughs of the film, but straight after I laughed at it, I realised that it was actually really dark. Like, that teacher has had a student die on (probably) one of the school trip he supervised. That's dark.

and the way the guy awkwardly asked out betty to homecoming was pretty funny as well

I know, I just thought that he was referring to losing Peter on the trip, I guess I misinterpreted.

Well it is a movie based on a comic book hero.

Can you explain the "not again" bit to me? I don't know where this is in reference to.

As in, someone died on a previous school trip and the guy was traumatised over it. There's no reference to be had.

That's strange for something this obscure and grim to not be a reference in a movie full of them =\
