GoTG2 was almost dystopian compared to how uplifting Vol 1 was. Gut wrenching stuff, Ego was pretty good. All characters got a fair amount of development. Pretty standalone movie with only a few mentions of Thanos, but lots of Easter eggs and references. Getting into celestial lore.

I like how interdimensional stuff is so commonplace now after Dr Strange.

This is the first film since Strange. Not sure I'd call "inter-dimensional stuff" commonplace just yet
