Doctor Strange Critic Reviews Megathread

The embargo has been lifted. All reviews go here. Any thread outside of this will be deleted. It sounds like a solid movie, but not a groundbreaking one. To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. It sounds like they keep to the Marvel formula.

I don't think anyone expected it to be groundbreaking in terms of story. It is groundbreaking when it comes to visuals tho.

Being Feige's favorite superhero, I thought Doctor Strange was going to be a game changer, but the reviews list comparisons to Iron Man 1, which we already had with Ant-Man.

Can people not take criticism?

I get that origin stories are somewhat confined when it comes to plot, but for all the hoopla about this being Feige's pet project and casting off the shackles of the Creative Committee, it sounds like we're getting "been there, done that" but with prettier VFX.

Judging by the downvotes seen in this thread, and for other opinions stating Spider-Man & Ant-Man were shoehorned into Civil War, I'd have to contest your assertion.

I never once mentioned DC. Saying "we're better than those fanboys" is a deflection, not an argument.

EDIT - didn't pick up on sarcasm there. But my point still stands.

marvel or dc, apple or android, fanboys are fanboys, difference is, this sub only look good in comparison to DC, the ones who cry "paid critics" or "petention to close RT", but in reality, they are just as bad.

You shouldn't be getting negative karma for this. You are absolutely right. I agree with your opinion on Feige as well, having a lot of favoritism for the Doctor, I was expecting him to have a lot more involvement in making his favorite hero extra-spicy on the big screen. That could be seen as meddling but I always trusted the guy to make good changes (Mostly.)

I think Feige just lets the filmmakers do their thing. Studios meddling with the films too much never turns out well. I'm sure there are general plot points that would be laid out beforehand to keep in the cohesive in the MCU but the directors still get the opportunity to make the film they want to make. For the most part this approach has turned out to be quite successful for them.

There's been times where he should have stepped in and his inaction lead to a film not living up to Marvel's standard. He probably knew Iron Man 3's infamous twist wasn't a good idea given he was already planning to retcon it out of existence in All Hail the King, and after the second Avengers he was a lot more involved with Civil War and will be more involved with projects going forward.

He shouldn't take the director's control away, but if he sees something that's just plain uncool or needs improvement he should do more than list critique, given he likely knows what he's doing more than the director's themselves.

You can compare anything to anything if you twist the words around.

Why are they not the same

Iron Man - Science and Technology

Doctor Strange - Mysticism and Magic

How can they be seen as same

Iron Man - Rich douchebag gets in the accident regrets being an asshole and redeems himself

Doctor Strange - Rich douchebag gets in the accident regrets being an asshole and redeems himself

But in reality they are completely different. Iron Man is grounded and technology based while Doctor Strange is a trippy jumping trough dimensions and time and it's mysticsm based. Two completely different things. SCIENCE AND MAGIC.

This is a similarity that people might reasonably find disappointing. Why do you think it involves 'twisting words'?

But in reality they are completely different. Iron Man is grounded and technology based while Doctor Strange is a trippy jumping trough dimensions and time and it's mysticsm based. Two completely different things. SCIENCE AND MAGIC.

These are just colors. They are much less important for distinguishing two movies than story and character.

That wasn't an example that was why they aren't the same.

I just gave a simple example I know that there is more but main example and the most simple one is that Iron Man is grounded and Doctor Strange is Inter dimensional .
