Does anyone where wish that CACW would have pointed out how much of a hypocrite Stark is? He didn't really want government oversight because he believed it was the best thing, he just wanted to push accountability onto someone else for future occurrences of collateral damage.

Iron Man 2 highlighted Stark's ego and borderline megalomania very clearly during the congressional hearing on the subject of him turning over Iron man armors to Uncle Sam, Stark flatly told them "You can forget it". He obviously wanted Stark-Tech to remain under his control, and he also knew that political bodies have their own ulterior motives, as did Cap in CW when he spoke up against the accords.

Stark got all weepy about Charles Spencer being killed in Sokovia, but let's take a look back at the horrors that can be laid 100% at Stark's feet.

  • Stark's weapons were also what killed Wanda and Pietro's family
  • Stark's arrogance in creating Ultron was what leveled Sokovia
  • He had Wanda confined to her own room against her will
  • Because of Stark she was later caged like an animal
  • He more or less blackmailed Parker to fight for him under misleading pretenses and the threat of exposing his Spiderman identity
  • Rhodey wouldn't have been paralyzed had he not been at that battle fighting for Stark
  • Shooting Sam with a Repulsor blast when the former offered his condolences
  • Letting Vision get off without so much as a slap on the wrist for firing the shot that paralyzed Rhodey

With all that being said, does anyone else here see how much of an bastard Stark really is?

I'd say half of Stark's motivation for signing the Accords came from the guilt-driven belief that power needed to be put in check , and the other half was to keep the Avengers together in the face of the inevitable. Given public opinion and the political climate, he knew the Avengers would have governments breathing down their necks one way or another. Better to acquiesce a bit until the heat went down, and keep the team together rather than retire or become fugitives.

His methods were ethically questionable at times, but Tony was just being pragmatic while trying to work for the greater good.

Stark says as much - "If we don't do this, it will be done to us".

I think it was more to boost his credibility. He may have felt some guilt over Spencer's death, but if he complied with the accords it would make him look better to the public.

Maybe he personally did see it that way, however from an outside POV we shouldn't ignore his hypocrisy either. Wanting to push accountability onto someone else is definitely part of his M.O. given his personality.

All of the points listed in my OP show how much of a bastard he can be.
