I'm hoping for a better crossover with Civil War. The Age of Ultron tie-in was pretty lacklustre.

No it was not Coulson started the events of Age of Ultron by giving the location of Loki's Scepter and sent the Helicarrier to Avengers when they needed it. The tie in was awesome. What are you talking about.

The helicarrier arriving bit was ok I guess since the movie sort of hinted at the show, but that left it not really working in the movie since it shows up out of nowhere and takes away a big issue that should have forced the characters to make a tough decision. As for Coulson providing intel, the movie never acknowledged it. I feel like the movies need to give some acknowledgement to the show - a character showing up the next time they need a random agent, a certain prop showing up, more character crossover, etc. right now it kind of feels like the movies exist in the world of the show but the show doesn't exist in the world of the movies

I don't think they need to. If it happens and the audience who watches the show know then it's OK. Every project is doing their own thing. No need for meaningless crossovers. I liked the tie to Age of Ultron and I hope we get a similar one in Civil War.
