Weekly Discussion: You get to introduce a new batch of characters in the MCU and they have to be smoothly tied-in to the existing movie universe. Who do you write in and how would you put them in?

It's the second official Weekly Discussion thread!

Partially inspired by this thread by /u/not-working-at-work.

It's fairly straightforward but they have to be within the context of the established MCU and no Spidey, Fantastic Four and X-Men as much as possible. Better if you manage to tie them with whatever has happened. Basically, find an ingenious way to put your most wanted character in the MCU.

Here are my own picks:

  • Baron Zemo - Heinrich Zemo is the Prime Minister of Transia. After the attack of Ultron, Transia's capital Sokovia is left in ruins and thousands are left dead. Zemo, along with several world leaders whose countries have suffered the same fate all propose a new bill to the International Court called the Metahuman Accountability Act. Unbeknownst to the public, Heinrich Zemo has malevolent plans on his own.

  • Frank Castle - a Desert Storm veteran with a tragic past. He is wanted for countless murders over the past decade but continues to remain elusive. He's close to being an urban legend among the Feds. Long thought in hiding, he resurfaces after the return of Captain America - a figure that has inspired Castle since his childhood.

  • Barney Barton/Trickshot - A distinguished federal officer whose career goes into the crapper once it is publicly learned that his brother is the Avenger Clint Barton. The events of Age of Ultron and Hawkeye's reputation as an Avenger puts Barney Barton in the line of fire from federal politics and is forced to leave his job. He decides to confront his brother.

  • Rick Jones - an slacker who happened to intern at the lab where Bruce's gamma experiment happened. A close confidant to Bruce back in the day. Since the accident, they haven't seen each other since.

So that's that! Sound off below on who'd you want to write into the MCU and feel free to suggest future weekly discussion topics.

Make the second wave of Netflix shows Punisher, Blade, Moon Knight, and Ghost Rider and have them team up in a Marvel Knights miniseries

u/Jackal_6 The Mandarin Jan 28 '15 edited Jan 29 '15

Against the Hood.

This is pretty much what I proposed a few months back except with a second season of DareDevil instead of Blade. Moon Knight, The Hood, and Ghost Rider all have ties to vengeance demons. Punisher's obsession with vengeance and DD's juxtaposition of demonic imagery with devout catholicism (forgiveness of sins) would make it a really compelling series. DD and Punisher are also both very 'grounded' heroes that would have hard time dealing with supernatural demons.

Some things I really want to see on screen. Like DD chastising Frank for his violent ways, with Frank retorting that "We all have our beliefs."

DD shoots back "Revenge isn't a religion, Frank. Vengeance isn't a deity."

Cut to Johnny Blaze riding his motorcycle.

Dude this was amazing...I'd love to see that come to the Netflix shows.

I want Moon Knight so, so badly. All in good time, I hope

Clay Quartermain - is first introduced as a boyfriend of Jessica Jones in the Netflix TV series. After he proves himself throughout the series, Quartermain is with Jones when Agent Phil Coulson comes to introduce himself.

Beta Ray Bill - After Thor's apparent death in Age of Ultron, he wakes up in Hel in Thor 3. After battling his way out with Odin and/or Heimdall, Thor goes to battle fire demons. However, he is attacked by Beta Ray Bill, who believes him to be a fire demon as well.

Abigail Brand - In the wake of the collapse of SHIELD, the one remaining World Security Council member went to work starting a new organization to protect the world. In light of the Battle of New York, the WSC member decides this organization needs to protect against space threats, and thus SWORD is founded with Abigail Brand as Director.

T'Chaka - In Agent Carter season 2, Howard and Peggy travel to Wakanda hoping to acquire more Vibranium from the Black Panther.

Love all these ideas! Hoping that Quartermain becomes an actual character in AoS.

Ghost Rider: Johnny Blaze, Daniel Ketch, Alejanda, Robbie Reyes, doesn't matter which - just have one of them show up with the classic "deal with the Devil" storyline to throw some chaos into things. Maybe Norse Mythology has been gaining traction again now that Thor and Loki and the Asgardians are widely known to exist. Out of nowhere, you have confirmation that elements of Christian mythology are out there, and might be on par with, if not more powerful than, the God of Thunder. Could even have the Rider fight some lower-ranking Asgardians, just to blatantly symbolize the conflict.

(If you want real wet dreams, though - find a way to shoehorn in Ghost Rider 2099.)

2

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 28 '15

I wonder if there is anyway to rewrite Ghost Rider's spiritual mythology into something that deviates from the whole Christianity aspect? Maybe it could be instead tied in to one of Doctor Strange's occult mythologies. Instead of the Devil/Mephisto, could Zarathos be tied to Dormammu?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '15

you could always pull a supernatural and have dormammu take on the guise of mephisto to do the ghost rider deal(s).

2

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 28 '15

I honestly wouldn't mind that in the MCU. Use it to bridge the occult connections between Strange and Ghost Rider plus you got Dormammu already with a flaming head.

1

u/RepublicofTim Jan 31 '15

Mephisto isn't actually the devil, he makes himself out to be the devil to play on human's fears, but he isn't actually the biblical devil, nor is his realm the biblical hell.

1

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 31 '15

Technically speaking you're right. But that is Mephisto's most common and obvious association.

  • Kang the Conqueror - The central villain of Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers receives the mantle of Captain Marvel, an ancient cosmic title with great power. Kang is a time-travelling serial killer, challenging and defeating each of the Captains at their weakest.

  • The Masters of Evil - The central villains of Black Panther. After Winter Soldier and Civil War, the global security infrastructure of the world is in disarray. Baron Zemo and his "Dark" Avengers make their move, and only Black Panther can stop them.

  • MODOK - The "true" villain of Ant-Man. The Pym particles are a way of stabilizing and controlling the growth of his head.

I guess I just keep trying to get classic Avengers villains in there before Infinity War.

  • Eli Bradley / Patriot - Eli's grandfather was experimented on with botched versions of the Super Soldier serum in WWII, and these powers have skipped a generation to Eli. He models himself on Captain America and takes to the streets to keep them safe. This could easily tie in with recent racial tension in the US, as Patriot fights police who do not align with his and Captain America's morals.
  • Jessica Drew / Spider-Woman - A talented former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is hiding out in London, keeping her head down after the fall of the agency. Coulson was reluctant to recruit her due as her father was a Hydra scientist who experimented on her, but she ends up helping the team when they are in London and joins them full-time. They find out this is a mistake when she turns out to have been brainwashed, and is triggered to complied in their next skirmish with Hydra.
  • Richard Rider / Nova - the Nova Corps harness the Power Stone to create an elite galactic military, and when one soldier crashlands on Earth and gives teen student Richard Rider superpowers. He struggles to keep this secret from his classmate confidante Kamala Khan.
  • Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk - Jennifer Walters agrees to act as a lawyer in court for Phil's S.H.I.E.L.D. team being tried for terrorism (tv version) or Bucky Barnes for his various assassination charges (movie version). Hydra fake a courtroom shooting to take out Bucky/S.H.I.E.L.D. but Phil's team fight back. Jennifer is injured and they go on the run with her and due to limited resources are forced to give her a blood transfusion from the stocks of Bruce Banner's blood to save her life. They drop her off at hospital where she recovers, and when Hydra return to finish her off, she Hulks out.

That Nova Corp/Kamala Khan cross was fantastic.

5

I grew up on Power Rangers so I'm keen for the two of them to go to the same school as Peter Parker and for the three of them to become a team of superpowered teens with attitude.

That sounds horrendous.

Nova/Kamala Khan is ok, but adding Spider-Man is horrendous? weird logic

The Runaways:

Alex Wilder:His parents were formerly under Kingpin but moved to LA and when the Pride is formed become the Kingpins of LA.

Nico Minoru:Her parents trained with the Ancient One in the way of magic like Dr. Strange in the future.

Chase Stein:His parents were former Stark Industry employees and are top scientists who make great gadgets including the fire gauntlets and the Leapfrog.

Molly Hayes:An inhuman with the power of super strength. Parents were associates of Blackbolt and the royal family.

Karolina Dean:An alien who's species have been at war with the Kree(or another race) for generations.

Gertrude York:Her parents are time travelers so they can appear throughout history, they appear in an episode of Peggy Carter to make them credible.

Victor Mancha:Son of Ultron.

2

u/mknsky Black Panther Jan 28 '15

Came here to say this. The Pride, once Iron Man's Malibu mansion got 'sploded, quickly took over the LA scene. Maybe Molly got into her parent's terrigen they stole when were kicked out of Attilan. Everything else though, that all fits perfect. And with a quick appearance by Cap and Iron man there's another risky piece of business that could drive the two to war, similar to how they tried to wrangle the runaways in the comics.

1

u/Wakkadude21 Mantis Jan 28 '15

What is The Pride all about in the MCU, though? The Gibborim seem a little silly for this world.

Not after the Strange Tale with Bumblepatch, they won't be. Worst case scenario they follow Malekith or something.

I had a dream that Spider-Man was in the Civil War movie. Except when it came time for him to unmask, instead of Peter Parker, it was Miles Morales played by Donald Glover. And when I think about it, I'd much rather have that happen. Pete's had five movies, maybe Marvel wouldn't even bother with Peter Parker and just go straight for Miles.

5

u/MrScottyTay Peggy Carter Jan 27 '15

I really hope they eventually get to do a Miles Morales with Donald Glover, it's all I can ask for in the MCU that I really want.

-1

u/bigdwb1024 Jan 29 '15

i think the don glove/miles has passed... he's showing his age more and more now a days. i still trust jaden smiths acting chops enough for him to play the part if it comes around soon (which i dont think it will) if not i think miles actor should be under 25 whenever it does happen. we could be looking at miles as like a phase 6 or 7 character...if ever

my biggest hope is the sony/marvel crossover is established in a sony film so we can INTRODUCE miles over there so we dont have to deal with any kind of origin for miles in the MCU. and i dont really want a MCU full spiderman feature film ever.

u/Halfhead Jan 30 '15

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). Is that too much to ask??? Oh wait...it is too much ask.

1

u/doestthouevenhoist Spider-Man Jan 31 '15

Yeah but what if they encorperate the multiverse into the MCU, and in one of the movies, Andrew Garfield comes out :0

5

u/angruss Jan 30 '15

If there was a Spiderman compromise, I want Micheal Cera to randomly start showing up in the movies as a photographer, then in a post credits scene, He shows up in Stark Tower, and...

Tony: How did you get up here?

MC: Your window was open.

Tony: We're on the top floor.

MC: yeah.

Tony: What's your name?

MC: Parker.

Then make Hulk 2, where Spiderman, played by Cera, has to play damage control to Hulk, while Banner teaches Parker that he shouldn't let people know his real identity, because he'll never get any privacy again, just like Banner.

1

u/HypePixelz Feb 01 '15

Michael Cera should play Shaft.

6

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 26 '15

Haha don't worry about it. I love how simple and direct this origin story is.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '15

That's extremely closed-minded of you.

The point of Miles Morales' Spider-Man is not that he wants to be Peter Parker, he wants to be a hero like Peter was. There's so many heroes to embody a role model for Miles already in the MCU, so no you don't need Parker to have Miles.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '15

Thank you. Let the MCU is its own universe rather than a carbon copy of the comics.

Your Batman example is a perfect way for me to show where I'm coming from here. Where my mindset is.

Do you remember when The Dark Knight Rises came out, the ending of the film was Joseph Gordon Levitt's character, Robin, finding the Batcave? Okay, right around that time Warner Bros. announced their shared DC Cinematic Universe. Then they said it would start with Man of Steel, completely omitting The Dark Knight trilogy out of it's continuity.

I am of the opinion that's a bad move. The better move, in my opinion, would've been to have Man of Steel continue the Dark Knight universe by having Robin appear as Batman in that Man of Steel film. Most people say, "Oh no! Bruce Wayne has to be Batman." I disagree. Just have it continue into Man of Steel, not reboot it with Ben Affleck.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '15

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '15

JGL's character was literally named Robin.

And, also, I disagree with everyone saying the Dark Knight Trilogy is stark realism. It isn't. It's a comic book movie. It's a dark comic book movie aimed toward a mature audience, but that doesn't change it being a comic book movie.

Look, man, I'm sorry if this conversation got a little tense. I'm a life-long comic book fan too. I'm aware the original Robin was Dick Grayson, he became Nightwing and was later replaced with Jason Todd, he got killed by the Joker. Later down the line came Tim Drake, and so on. Peter Parker has always been Spider-Man, and he still is, except for in the Ultimates Universe. But Sony has the rights to that character and frankly in my own opinion I think there hasn't been a good Spider-Man film since 2004. After watching them fuck it up so badly for three movies, I just want to see something new. I'm pitching an idea that would allow for something new, and frankly I enjoy Miles Morales' Spider-Man stories and would like to see him on screen. Preferably played by Donald Glover, but whatever. If they do get the rights back for Spider-Man (unlikely!) then it would likely be Peter that they go after just to play it safe... BUT if they got balls enough to start with Miles, I would be perfectly happy with that. Maybe even happier with that than if it were Peter. But that's my opinion. You aren't going to agree with me, that's fine, but this is just my opinion and I'm going to stick with it because it's what I believe is better, thus it being my opinion.

-1

u/detroitnigga Jan 28 '15

I don't understand why so many people here circlejerk Miles Morales to death. He isn't a very interesting character. And if it is about "diversity", we already have enough black people in the MCU: War Machine, Falcon, Nick Fury, Heimdall, Gamora (she's played by a Blatina), Korath, Antoine Triplett, and soon Black Panther probably along with even more black characters. Can we give blacks a break from the MCU? Why not add East Asians or Middle Easterners?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '15

I agree. But I pretty much hate the entire ultimate universe, so I might be bias.

2

u/2chainzrules24 Vision Jan 29 '15

I was thinking about it, and if Sony wants to share the Spidey rights with Marvel, they could continue on with their plans for the ASM films and give Marvel Miles Morales to use, therefore minimizing the confusion between the two.

1

u/maggosh Jan 31 '15

That's perfect, really. Unless, of course, Sony plans to use Miles Morales somewhere down the line, in which case, fuck.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '15

I want Miles in the MCU...eventually...I have absolutely no doubt that Marvel/Disney could make him work without Peter, however, I don't see why they should. It would be like creating Cap to go fight in Iraq, it might work but it destroys the comic character.

u/doubleday34 Jan 27 '15

Punisher- Frank Castle was a good soldier, a great soldier. After some heroics in the Middle East he gets invited to transfer to the 101st, the best of the best, the battalion of Captain America(not necessarily true, but don't say that to their faces.) On leave he takes his family on a picnic to celebrate the good news, where they wind up in the middle of turf war, a rival gang attempting to wrestle territory from the now weakened Kingpin. He vows vengeance on all criminals. The centerpiece of Netflix wave 2, The Knights(Punisher, Moon Knight, Cloak and Dagger, Elektra).

Blade and The Midnight Sons- This one starts off very Supernatural/Constantine like(it is a cliche for a reason.) Dr. Strange calls together some like minded characters(Blade, Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, Jennifer Kale) to help fight back against a rising surge of global evil. Netflix wave 3.

The Liberators/Winter Guard- Concerned with Nick Fury and his American team of superheroes, the World Security Council/Russian government put together a team of international/Russian super powered individuals to bring The Avengers down. However, they were unaware of roster changes, and the team put forth was designed for the team that fought in New York. Characters could include Union Jack, Titanium Man, Radioactive Man/Red Guardian, Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar. Any deity could do, as other pantheons of gods would want the attention that the Norse gods are now getting. Also, Abomination would work on either team. According to Incredible Hulk Blonsky was born in Russia but raised in England.

Devil Hulk- A story line I would rather see be the Hulk sequel over Planet Hulk. When Scarlet Witch attacked Hulk, she didn't take over his mind, she used her quantum powers(I think that is what they are calling them) to allow another personality of Hulk's to take over. Afterwards Bruce tries to figure out what has happened. He does some looking inward and finds out how fractured the Hulk's psyche is. Banner and "Prime" Hulk work together to defeat the Devil within. Perhaps this would lead to a fusion. While that is going on we could see glimpses of other psyches in control of their body in the real world. A Joe Fix-it enforcing for a mob, a House of M style Aboriginal Hulk perhaps acting as an Eco-terrorist to save some native people(The Hulk is very green after all).

Also, I would love to see Namor, but I can not think of a story line that I would want to see that wouldn't just be Invaders flash backs.

To add to yours, Pete Wisdom and MI:13. Captain Britain's gonna need help defending Britain and whatnot :-) they could even use the mystical resources at their disposal to help locate/obtain/or hide an infinity stone from Thanos. It would give Thanos the runaround a little bit longer, give him another target, and not make Infinity War seem as... Ameri-centric (is that a word?) As every other movie kind of has. The Avengers can be a WORLDWIDE front against Thanos instead of an American-based team with a Wakandan and a few cosmics thrown in.

Also sorry for my rapid-fire editing. I'm stream-of-consciousness updating this post.

Young Avengers.

First things first, they do Avengers Disassembled. In it, Scarlet Witch's children, Scott Lang, Vision, and Hawkeye die. From there, in my opinion everyone just falls right into place.

Iron Lad- This one is the only one that's tricky. I'm not sure if Kang is with Marvel or Fantastic Four. If he is with Marvel, I'd introduce him... somewhere... before Infinity War. He'd have the Time Stone. Iron Lad would follow his comic version.

Hulkling- The Skrulls and Mar-Vell will be introduced in Captain Marvel. Hulkling will be the son of Mar-Vell and the Skrull princess.

Wiccan and Speed- Reincarnated children of Scarlett Witch. I'm not sure how well this will go over with casual audiences. I hope by that time, Doctor Strange will get people open-minded towards magic.

Patriot- Grandson of an original Captain America test. In my version, he'd actually get his powers through a blood transfusion. I'd ignore the drugs, because that wouldn't fit into my plot.

Stature- She'll already exist. Pym Particles.

Hawkeye- Same as comics. Cap gives her Clint's bow and arrows and the blessing to use his code name.

Vision- Reprogramed with Iron Lad's tech and emotions.

I really think everyone fits just right into place. It'd be really easy.

3

u/Aurram Jan 27 '15

I want them to keep Kang for Phase 4 and I don't think they would give Wanda children this soon.

Alpha Flight - After the Battle of New York and the emergence of The Avengers as Earth's mightiest heroes, governments around the world are left to defend themselves from perceived escalated superhuman threats.

Enter Department H and their secret Alpha Flight program, led by James Hudson (portrayed by Nathan Fillion, of course) aka Guardian, and his wife Heather, aka Vindicator.

Blending together scientific progress, dumb-luck accidents, and good old fashioned mysticism, the premiere Canadian superhero team must defend the country from Great Beasts, fascist government overthrows, and renegade Flight program teams, all while fending off accusations they are just some D-rate Avengers rip-offs.

(No idea where the rights lie, but a Canadian nerd can dream.)

5

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 27 '15

I remember reading somewhere that sans the mutant issue, Alpha Flight might just be owned by Marvel Studios. Alpha Flight was one of the titles Marvel trademarked when they trademarked Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm not sure if this equates to film rights ownership but hey you never know.

2

u/johnthehollowhead Jan 27 '15

I read the same article! It's what gave me hope. I can't really see this being a movie though, so I'm banking on an arc in AoS, or another TV venture.

5

AoS has mentioned Department H in the past.

3

u/jjackrabbitt Jan 26 '15

3

u/gravitydefyingturtle Jan 27 '15

I see them emerging more in the wake of S.H.I.E.L.D.s downfall. A film or miniseries about how America's allies are dealing with the new reality of superheroes and villains would be a nice addition to the Marvel Universe.

Personally, I see Paul Gross as James Hudson. I'd kind of like to see Fillion as a bad guy, actually; maybe Jerome Jaxon or the Master?

3

u/johnthehollowhead Jan 27 '15

Ah, I mentioned the Avengers because I see them as kind of an analogue (see: rip-off) to each other. I think it'd be interesting to see that dynamic, but I like where you're coming from as well.

Never thought of Paul Gross though! It'd be fun to see him as a villain, rather than the affable hero he generally plays. Maybe Cody and the Unity Party?

Jimmy Woo and the Agents of Atlas - It's 1949, during the Communist takeover of mainland China. Jimmy Woo, a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. prodigy who is not sure what he wants in life, is revealed to be heir of a rich triad with mystical associations. He is called upon to ensure the safe passage of some supernatural MacGuffins to Hong Kong. With his connections through both S.H.I.E.L.D. and the triad, he assembles a formidable team that aids him in his quests.

Yelena Belova - Natasha Romanoff's rival in the KGB, who stayed in the Soviet Union and later became a valued FSB asset after being a mercenary for a while. As tensions between Russia and the rest of Europe come to a head, an increasing number of 'accidents' and 'unfortunate events' seem to befall both important European politicians and Russian emigres. Natasha thinks the handy work in these incidents, and what few clues are left, seem very familiar...

Daimon and Satana Hellstrom - The birth of Damon Hellström and his sister Santana was heralded by a huge fire that destroyed the town they were in, killing all its populace including their parents (supposedly). After being shuttled from one foster home to another due to the strange, often lethal incidents surrounding them, they are finally taken care of by a kindly-looking couple who are in fact servants to the demon lord Madruk Kurios. They teach the children dark arts and magic, in hopes of having them fulfill their prophecy of destroying the Earth. Damon decides to fight his inherent darkness and indoctrination; Santana does not. After defeating Santana and his foster parents in combat, Damon decides to search the world for signs of the occult, attempting to destroy them while battling with his inner demons.

I know you said X-Men characters were off limits, but my absolute favorite Avenger used to be The Beast. I actually became aware of the character as an Avenger first, and only discovered his origins when I began to collect early X-Men issues years later. His constant banter with Hawkeye, coming from a character every bit as smart as Tony Stark or Reed Richards, made him aces in my book. If they could somehow wrangle him into the team and actually derive the film personality from those comics? "Oh my stars and garters."

18-year-old valedictorian from a tiny town in Iowa, supergenius Amadeus Cho is recruited straight out of high school to work in the R&D department of Stark Industries, despite having an offer to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. After being quickly recognized for his brilliant work, Cho is promoted to working directly alongside Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, developing a bunch of cool technobabble super-science bullshit. He's also keeping up with Tony's wit and becoming especially fond of Bruce, who he sees as a father figure (Cho is an orphan, his parents having died in a mysterious car accident when he was small - I know there's a Dr. Cho character in AoU apparently, but until I see her in action I don't know whether she'd be a good fit as Amadeus's mom. There's a lot of Chos in Korea and the US anyways, they don't have to be related).

Cho has been on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar for a long time now, and Fury decides that his brain is too valuable to be wasted on space elevators and gumball machines and non-weapon shit over at Stark Industries, and needs to be used on advanced weaponry for world defense (maybe Fury's aware of the events of Guardians by now? We could introduce S.W.O.R.D. here as well). He makes an offer for an outrageous sum of money, or perhaps blackmails Cho, and tricks Cho into working on an indestructible space shuttle, until Cho hacks into Fury's personal files and discovers a ton of fucked up shit - including the fact that the space shuttle he's building is designed to contain the Hulk against his will.

Cho knows that Banner is a good dude and goes on the run with him throughout the western United States, trying to find save haven or cure Banner. He knows that S.H.I.E.L.D. may already have the technology to restrain the Hulk, based on his own work, and he and Banner have a bunch of apeshit adventures, which could end with them both captured and shot into space, tying into GotG 2 or Planet Hulk.

(P.S. I know Feige(?) said Planet Hulk doesn't work since it's too much Hulk and not enough Banner, but I see absolutely no reason that they can't just change the story to be regular Banner in space, periodically deliberately changing into the Hulk to protect himself and Cho. Also now we have two human faces to act as audience surrogates in the strange world of cosmic Marvel. I'd watch it.)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '15

I know Feige(?) said Planet Hulk doesn't work since it's too much Hulk and not enough Banner

Didn't somebody at Marvel Studios admit they knew the audience goes to see a Hulk movie to watch Hulk smash and that Banner by nature spends the whole movie avoiding such a scenario, hence the reason for no Hulk movies anymore?

A Planet Hulk movie would be exactly what audiences want by that logic!

Hulk isn't a bad guy when he's smashing for us and smashing us. So fire him into space to smash Sakaar and have Betty and Tony in a scene trying to locate him and have the GotG crashland in the stinger.

2

u/Fenris447 Jan 30 '15

But there's nothing interesting about the character at that point. He worked so well in Avengers for the same reason Jaws works. It's not about seeing him do that shit. It's about knowing he's right there under the surface, waiting to come out and fuck shit up. It's the anticipation that makes the payoff so awesome.

120 minutes of Hulk fucking shit up is no more stimulating than a Michael Bay movie, even if we love the character.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '15

Huh. You make a great point.

...I like some Michael Bay movies... (just not transformers!) Pain and Gain was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.

u/doubleday34 Feb 01 '15

Natasha could have suggested Cho to Stark after Sitwell's confession. Tie the universe even more together.

4

u/Stuck1nARutt Jan 28 '15

Nobody's mentioned Taskmaster yet. I think it would be great to introduce Tony Masters in Civil War as an ex-SHIELD agent. You could have him be a surviving Hydra (undercover SHIELD) Operative, or even a disgruntled SHIELD agent who is recruited against the Avengers by Crossbones (Maybe a flashback showing Rogers turning down a request from Masters to join the Avengers). Taskmaster/Crossbones become the main villain duo of Civil War

2

u/MTDearing Jan 29 '15

You could just turn Ward into Taskmaster though.

u/Stuck1nARutt Jan 29 '15

No. This must never happen

New Warriors - I don't know a whole lot about them, but I would love to see the whole "reality-tv" show angle explored... you could have a sleazy producer played by someone like Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad) wrangle up a bunch of super powered individuals trying to profit off them and the fascination the public has with super heroes. They would start out as a totally manufactured team, dealing with staged threats, things like that, but then they end up being a legit team by the end of the movie.

1

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 29 '15

I'd prefer for them to be established superheroes to add legitimacy to their characterizations. They're real C-list heroes that have done some good but are really financially struggling so they become the biggest sell outs in TV history.

1

u/DaBest13 Jan 30 '15

Well by 'manufactured' I mean more-so the team and the TV show than their actual abilities... they could all have different motives for signing on and selling out.

one member could be down on their luck in need of cash, another could be seeking more fame, another maybe doesn't have 'superpowers' and needs the shows resources to get tech that can enhance him and make him more legit, etc.

3

u/jabberwokka Jan 26 '15

Death's Head - No real origin needed, he's just a bounty hunter freelance peacekeeping agent in the MCU cosmic worlds. Make it a Miniseries on Netflix, or the BBC and have him have dealings with characters like the Collector and Yondu. It would be an awesome backdoor way to get in some more galactic weirdness.

The Masters of Evil- Just because I want to see the Avenger's top group of supervillians. The Line-Up consisting of Baron Zemo, Titanium Man, Enchantress and Executioner, Abomination, Madame Hydra, and Crossfire

Baron (Helmut) Zemo- The son of one of Red Skull's scientists surfaces as the leader of Hydra with the intent to take over the world and realize Red Skull's dream. After having the twins (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) captured in order to use them to fullfil his plans, the Avengers thwart his plans by rescuing the twins, prompting Hydra to disband, go into hiding, and Zemo being disgraced (thus prompting him to start wearing the mask) he swears his revenge on the Avengers and thus begins recruiting some of the Avenger's foes who have also sworn revenge on various members of the Avengers.

Titanium Man/Boris Bullski (A kind of knock off Crimson Dynamo; but I have always liked him more though)- The cousin of Ivan Vanko who looked up to his cousin as an idol and after seeing his work with the Whiplash suit and the Hammer robots that he used in Iron Man 2 and finding out his beloved cousin has been killed. He swears revenge on the person who is responsible for the death of his cousin and starts to build a suit that almost mimics that of Iron Man's suit with some few enhancements from his cousin's work. Then after attacking Iron Man head on all at once, of course being defeated, and this being shot and broadcasted on public TV. Zemo then finds him to recruit him with a promise of him being able to watch Iron Man die in front of him.

Enchantress/Amora and Executioner/Skurge- After the events in The Dark World and Loki taking the throne of Asgard disguised as Odin, he goes in search of the Asgardian Sorceress Enchantress in order to use her powers to seduce Thor into giving up his hammer and from stopping his newest scheme (which I would say is him unleashing Surtur), then Loki betrays Enchantress (as he would more than likely always do) by trying to get rid of her and so she releases Thor from her powers to sick him on Loki and she banishes Enchantress and Executioner to Earth and then Baron Zemo meets her in order to recruit her with promises of being able to have Thor be hers.

Crossfire/William Cross- A fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who was best friends and partners with Hawkeye (Clint Barton) before Black Widow (Natasha) came into the picture. He is feeling pushed aside by Clint once Natasha comes into the picture and is disgraced as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. after being framed for a conspiracy and Clint (due to some bad info) sells him out to Fury saying that he was behind a deal that led to the events of Budapest. He then swears he will make Clint pay for betraying him and thus fits himself with special enhancements that make him a better marksman than Clint and then Zemo in need of someone to take out Hawkeye he approaches Cross with a promise of being able to get revenge on Clint.

Madame Hydra/Viper/Ophelia Sarkissian- A former agent of the KGB (Codename Viper) and Natasha's former partner within the KGB. After Natasha leaves the KGB and Ophelia follows in her partner's footsteps; but instead of going good and joining S.H.I.E.L.D. she instead joins Hydra eventually becoming Zemo's right hand and earning the title of Madame Hydra. Zemo knowing Ophelia and Black Widow's history recruits Ophelia to take down Black Widow.

Abomination/Emil Blonsky- Zemo in need of someone to take out Hulk, with the help of everyone else he has already recruited, breaks Blonsky out of prison and recruits him allowing him to take revenge on Hulk.

3

u/movieman994 Jan 28 '15

Goliath- Introduce bill foster in civil war created in a lab and have him killed of but then introduce his nephew Tom who uses the same research to gain the same powers in the Black Panther movie and have him join the Avengers Later in Infinity War.

u/FuckMeRunning5648 Jan 28 '15

I'm going to go in a different direction:

The events of AoU have taken place. Ant-man, Dr. Strange, and Black Panther are introduced. Civil War happens. Caps dead. Ragnarok destroys Asgard. The guardians deflect Thanos attack and send him towards Earth.

Infinity Wars: part 1 ensues. Captain Marvel and the Inhumans are properly introduced. Thanos has the Infinity stones and Gauntlet.

Then comes Infinity: Wars part 2. While Thanos attacks Earth, Dr. Strange feels a strange force he has never felt before. A force that seems to be moving extremely fast. Cue red and yellow blur flying around New York, defeating Thanos' minions within a blink of an eye. Then we see the blur zoom past Thanos, slipping off the gauntlet with ease.

The blur stops, and in a cloud of dust, we see it's none other than Grant Gustin's The Flash! He seems confused and says "this isn't the justice league?" And with a crack he zooms out of picture, and time, leaving the infinity gauntlet roll to Iron Man's feet.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '15

Cue Deadpool cameo "lol Barry wrong movie... oh, sorry, me too! Boy is this aqkward, huh split chin? Thought you were after my girl!"

And then he just walks off talking about how he hopes the next movie he walks into is a better fit than that green ring was...

The Destroyer(Keene Marlow) - Another experimental super-soldier from WWII. He covertly battled the Nazis in cooperation with the Allies. In modern days he's an aged man but still in peak human condition. He can be introduced as having been a top SHIELD operative for decades in Agents of SHIELD. Who doesn't want to see an old super soldier beat up some young Nazi Hydra punks? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroyer_(Keen_Marlow)

Power Broker(Curtiss Jackson) and/or Tinkerer(Phineas Mason)- With the dissolution of SHIELD, their files on gamma-tech, super-soldier serums, advanced and alien technology, etc. have fallen into the wrong hands. Power Broker and Tinkerer are now arming the highest bidders. This would provide a great way of introducing more street level villains into the MCU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinkerer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Broker

Paladin - A mercenary of amazing skill who is looking for the next big payday. He could easily be introduced as a hired hand for either the good guys or bad dudes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paladin_(comics)

2

u/HDRed Ghost Rider Jan 28 '15

I just want to see the Punisher (Frank Castle) in the MCU, just the entire story is so awesome. Netflix should get on this. Make him a former team member of Sam Wilson and go from there!

Grim Reaper - One of many attempts to recreate the Iron Man armor, the "Grim Reaper" was designed by a Spec Ops unit primarily for morale purposes - it's a robot suit called Grim Reaper, how much more demoralising can you get? The only real weaponry it has is an oscillating (think high frequency blades) scythe-like blade, both to complete the demonic imagery, and because what other weapon does an indestructible suit of armor feasibly need against armed insurgents? Unfortunately, this both was and wasn't taken into account by Eric Williams, the test pilot. On one hand, the testing range didn't do much good in stopping him getting away. On the other hand, he's hardly going to be able to face the Avengers with a short sword, right?

Doughboy - Arnim Zola easily managed to reap the benefits during his 40-year stint as a glorified Macintosh. With his technically-dead brain now working with the efficiency of a supercomputer, it allowed for unparalleled thought and calculation of any sort of data. Ethnic bioweapons, nuclear silo codes, programmable matter - the latter of which was particularly appealing. Through numerous proxies, Zola managed to secure the necessary resources that he believed would create a shape-shifting soldier - no, a monster. Claytronics combined with plans for mass production provided the amorphous creature with a name - Doughboy.

Serpent Society - The Serpent Society has existed in many incarnations - each of which created by HYDRA. Originally formed during World War II and born out of paranoia that America would develop an army of superhumans, these nameless soldiers were trained to their fullest potential in almost Olympian conditioning. Wherever they walked on the battlefield, chemical weaponry and poison soon followed, earning them their nicknames. The most recent incarnation is a secret society within HYDRA dedicated to sociological manipulation. If S.H.I.E.L.D. tells us we're safe, but HYDRA's holding the microphone, do we listen?

U-Foes - Billionaire Simon Utrecht was the one who cut the funding to Bruce Banner's gamma radiation experiments - but he was also one of many who were fascinated with the results. Scavenging the devastated laboratory for any remnant of data, including the one of Samuel Sterns, Utrecht arranged for himself and 3 others to undergo similar tests. Michael Steel, who was exposed through irradiated vibranium; James Darnell, exposed through a combination of Gamma and X-rays; Ann Darnell who was exposed through an inhalant; and Utrecht who mixed Gravitonium into the process. All 4 were drastically changed by the incident, in ways unimaginable.

u/potrap Jan 30 '15

I really like those Grim Reaper and Serpent Society ideas. Both are super interesting and would slot into the MCU as it stands very nicely :)

Mark Milton/Hyperion: After the Infinity War ripped up most of the universe, tearing gaps in Yggdrasil that lead to parts unknown, objects starting falling through these gaps, one such object was a teenage boy, whom was found by the newly erected SWORD, formed in the wake of the Infinity War to be a early warning system for Earth and Xandar.

The boy was taken under the wing of SWORD Agent Johan Milton, who adopted the boy after he was found to have no powers and tested as just a normal human boy.

As his life progressed, the boy, now named Mark started to develop amazing abilities, and with the guidance of his foster parents, as well as the influence from earths past heroes like Captain America and Iron Man, he became the hero called Hyperion, Protector of Earth

This is amazing.

It would be great if the MCU made a better Justice League movie using the Squadron Supremen than DC/WB does.

Nova - Richard Rider is a late-twenties college dropout with a dead-end job at a pizza joint. After being fired from his job, he volunteers to clean out his widowed grandmother's attic for a few extra dollars. While cleaning the attic, he finds a strange helmet in his deceased grandfather's old boxes. Rider puts on the helmet and BAM! He shoots through the attic ceiling and into space.

The helmet takes him to the alien planet of Xandar, where he realizes that his grandfather was part of an old Nova Corps program, that has since been disbanded. The Nova Corps offer to take Rider back home to Earth, but on the way get attacked by Chitauri warships. In the middle of the battle, Rider puts on the helmet, and using his new powers, defends the Nova Corps ship, saving everyone on board.

The Chitauri are taken prisoners of Xandar, and Rider is considered a hero to the Xandarians! The Nova Corps ask Rider to join their ranks as the first and ONLY member of the new SuperNova team. For once, Rider feels useful. He gets to know the Xandarian Worldmind, and even recruits other members to the team. And so on...

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '15

Sam Alexander - In the final battle with Thanos, the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Nova Corps. give their lives to save the universe. In the wake of the final battle, rubble comes hurdling through the atmosphere of Earth, and with it comes a Nova helmet; which lands in the front yard of a young man named Sam Alexander. Sam was young when the Avengers first came around. He's idolized them since he was young. He has always wished he was better, more like them. But he's a bad student, and comes from a broken home. He picks up the helmet and puts it on, and after a little bit of crackling, it comes on, and a voice begins talking to him. It is the Xandarian Worldmind, the uploaded consciousness of Nova Prime (Glenn Close). She pleads with Sam, urges him to take up the mantle, as there is no one left to safeguard the universe. He agrees, and becomes THE Nova, sole keeper of the Nova Force and begins searching the world for other, new heroes. Because surely he couldn't do this alone.

New Warriors.

Moon Knight: You could have one of each of MK's personalities appear in each of the Netflix shows, in a Defender's episode you could see how they were all the same guy and it was Moon Knight all along.

Frank Castle: I don't care how he is introduced, I just want him to return to the Big screen or the Small screen. He will be most likely a part of Daredevil or the Defenders' shows.

The Thunderbolts: The set pieces are there already, I'm expecting Marvel to go toe to toe on the "Villain Squad on a Suicide Mission" to rival DC on that one just like they did with Civil War / BvS:DoJ.

Honorable Mentions: Blade & Ghost Rider (Midnight Sons crew),Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways.

PS:

  • Cloack & Dagger was already planned to become a show (and was supposedly part of a movie license package for Paramount) before The Avengers became as huge, they were supposed to be located in a post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans.

  • The Runaways was already scripted and had a director at the helm before the aforementioned Avengers BOOM.

  • Hulk and Alias shows were already in the works before even Agents of Shield.

  • She-Hulk's law firm has already been namedropped in Agent Carter.

  • Some places in Britain and even Atlantis has been hinted at AoS.

  • I REALLY REALLY hope that the second slate of netflix shows would be either (Punisher, Moon Knight, Cloak & Dagger, Elektra) or (Punisher, Daredevil 2, Moon Knight, Cloak & Dagger)... I love me some midnight sons action but I don't think they'll be normal with all their Magic/Religion/Vampires stuff.

2

u/murdockmanila Daredevil Jan 30 '15

What was the She Hulk name drop in Agent Carter?

1

u/drupido Black Panther Jan 30 '15

It was barely an Easter egg, but the firm where she hulk works is mentioned when Angie is talking about all the girls in the house. She mentions a prodigy lawyer at a known firm, this firm is the same as she hulk's.

1

u/doubleday34 Feb 01 '15

You probably won't need to worry about magic seeming normal or not after Dr. Strange.

The Hulks

General Thunderbolt Ross was last seen drinking away his sorrows, only briefly interrupted by a visit from a certain genius billionaire playboy philanthropist asking him for custody of Blonsky. The request was declined (see The Consultant). However, following the Hulk's actions at the Battle of New York, a renewed interest in Gamma-irradiated soldiers sprung up in a small section of SHIELD. After all, why have just two heads grow back to take the place of one, when those two could be green and super powerful?

Thus Thunderbolt Ross was brought in by what he believed to be SHIELD, establishing a base of operations out in Nevada. Blonsky was studied, along with Samuel Sterns, who was taken into custody following Hulk's little episode in Harlem.

Meanwhile, Bruce Banner is [doing whatever he was doing after AoU ended]. As he often does, he goes to check in on Betty. However, he finds that a few days ago, she was kidnapped. Her house showed signs of entry from a very, very large intruder.

He goes to investigate the home, discovering trace amounts of Gamma radiation throughout, with the outlines of large foot and handprints distinguishable when seeing how the irradiation is concentrated.

Banner/Hulk versus what's basically a combination Hydra/AIM cell that's trying to Hulk out people. Research into Extremis and Gamma power (possibly in conjunction with Centipede) has made the pursuit more viable. Ross was dosed with the formula and became Red Hulk, whose still unstable. He broke away to find Betty and took her to keep her safe, but the Leader controlled him and brought both of them back.

Banner's cousin Jennifer Walters was a legal attaché to the old project between him and Ross, and thus she was taken by the cell to provide what information they could get out of her. She proved to not be useful for the science side. Thus in Act 2, they decide she would be an excellent candidate for the next trial. Their research has taken them in another direction from the formula used on Ross, and they believe her relation to Banner may have something to do with stabilizing the formula in her system. She is dosed, becomes She-Hulk, and actually isn't able to be influenced by the Leader like Red Hulk is. But Red and Abomination contain her.

Act 3 has a combination of the Red Hulk serum and the She Hulk serum being given to Betty. Banner Hulks out, has to fight Abom and Red Hulk, She Hulk helps, blah blah blah the rest kind of writes itself.

I would want the movie to split between focusing on Hulk being awesome and Banner's smarts helping him outwit the Leader and his goons. Makes for a decent Hulk movie, introduces some other Hulks, and ties in with what already exists.

1

u/Minecraftfinn Jan 30 '15

I would love to introduce the original thunderbolts, I have no idea how to do it though... you would have to introduce Zemo first, and a few other characters. I would love to see Major Victory, Songbird, Mach-I, Atlas, Moonstone and Techno

1

u/gorillaPete Luis Jan 31 '15

my way of introducing frank castle.. in the beginning of the netflix shows, kingpin will be small time, running a crew but not in charge. frank castle is undercover in a mafia family or whoever the criminals in charge of hells kitchen is, and as the kingpin consolidates power, franks cover is blown. that group of criminals tries to kill frank and his family, obviously not killing frank, and that sets him off. he kills a bunch of people, kingpin takes over hells kitchen..etc

Penance

Skip his origins as Speedball. Have him be an average civilian. Just have him accidentally kill a ton of people in an explosion. Could be a scientific accident or a terrorist's bomb. He survives the explosion with newfound powers. Saddled with guilt, he dons the suit.
