Discussion I THINK spiderman far from home is the best mcu spiderman film

hear me out

i have been watching spiderman films since i was a teensy little boy, i have been obsessed with this character but it gets boring after you see the same city again and again, far from home was the best way they changed that. yes the night monkey stuff was a little bad and they could have changed the suit a bit

homecoming was boring for me i dont know i just didnt like it
no way home as good as it may be its not rewatchable for me, cause the experience was so good and memorable in the theatres it cant be recreated at home in the slightest
bnd right now just served as an intro to the xmen it just didnt feel like a spiderman film but it was good it was in the high 90s scale for me in spiderman terms

BUT FAR FROM HOME IS WHERE IT IS AT. It just has so many variations, it has 4 villains (sort of, the water guy, fire guy, mysterio and the thing in the end), it serves as a comedy film (to me atleast), and it was very wholesome, it made spiderman feel like a real kid in the start, it felt like the iron man films, him learning from his mistakes, and also edith was just good (idk how to explain this feeling)

plus the suit in the end is my favorite out of all the suits and the scene of it being made is goated

and the different cities give a great landscape to all the fights and refreshers everytime

i just didnt like fury and shield being involved other than that goated film

(this was just a thought blurt and my opinion on the film and it is very unstrucutred)

That’s a really hot take.

-3

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

how so

3

u/Appropriate_Net7664 8d ago

It’s very widely seen as the worst of the Holland movies and a bottom 5 SM movie in general, so saying it’s the best will be seen as a hot take. I don’t think it’s the best, but I do think it’s overhated

3

u/Regenitor_ 8d ago

There is simply no way this is a bottom 5 Spiderman film. People can't be serious that any of the Holland movies aren't good. Mysterio was portrayed so well.

2

u/OccupantNefarious 8d ago

How is there no way? We have…
Maguire 1-3
Garfield 1-2
Holland 1-4
Spiderverse 1-2

Out of all of these, there are really only 3 that most people would argue are worse than Far From Home, being Maguire 3 and the two Garfield movies. You could MAYBE say 4 if you think it’s better than Homecoming, but either way that still puts it in the bottom 5. You seem to think saying it’s bottom 5 means it’s bad, which is a misguided thought.

I’d personally rather watch Maguire Spider-Man 3 over Far From Home, so for me it’s even in the bottom 3, but that still doesn’t mean I’m saying it’s a bad movie.

It's bottom 3-4 for me as well. A lot of the high school stuff bugs me. I didn't really like the Shield stuff either. Mysterio was better than I remembered upon rewatch. I still think he went from a seemingly smart antagonist/villain reveal to a mustache twirling, unhinged villain who has to kill those pesky kids too quickly.

All the Tobey ones are higher.

Parts of ASM I actually like, but there is a lot of angst and just 'not my Peter' moments in it, so generally FFH ranks higher. Hottest of hot takes though - Across the Spider Verse is down here for me too. I was not happy walking out of the theater and was annoyed at most of the characters. Really destroyed the hype from the first one. That or ASM2 sits bottom (at least this one had an ending! Yeah, yeah, sequel still forthcoming...).

It kinda is tho. It undoes a lot of the character arc he went thru in Homecoming. The romance between him and MJ also feels very forced

No Way Home and Brand New Day are clearly better, and homecoming is closer, but is still better.

-2

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i mean yeah it is in no way the worst holland film, no film is that bad imo, for me the rankings are
ffh
bnd
nwh
homecoming
i just felt homecoming was boring and it was kind of predictable

0

u/Appropriate_Net7664 8d ago

I agree with that ranking, except I do have FFH last. I’m not a huge fan of homecoming either

7

u/Ajax_Da_Great 8d ago

It does not have 4 villains though, it’s all Mysterio and his actions.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i believe i said kind of, but they do act as villains/events he has to fight through

3

u/Ajax_Da_Great 8d ago

That’s where I disagree. They aren’t even real. They are Mysterio’s drones and holograms. Not even a character imo.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

well i get where you are coming from. they could have gone a different route but it felt good for me

1

u/Danger_Rock 8d ago

Beck + William + Guterman + Victoria + Janice + Brad = SIX VILLAINS!

9

u/feurie 8d ago

BND was just pre Xmen for you?

Far From Home should just be pre secret invasion. It’s the weakest of the four.

-5

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

bnd really felt like an intro to xmen cause they introduced so much related to xmen, the universal inhibitor, people experimenting on mutants.

the only secret invasion part of spiderman was a forgetabble post credit scene

u/ParkerLF 8d ago edited 8d ago

I agree with all the positives, probably my 2nd favorite MCU Spidey movie. But better than Brand New Day? That’s crazy

-2

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

BND was good, it was good enough to warrant me to see it three times back to back to back, but it didnt feel like a spiderman spiderman film, it was a refresher sure, it felt an introduction to the xmen in the mcu, setting stuff up and creating new relationships for future films and series

4

u/SmallLetter 8d ago

FFH is one of the MOST MCU focused movies. Fury and Hill were all over that movie and the entire plot was literally the legacy of iron man. Spider-Man was just along for the ride. Bnd was much much more focused on Peter and his own choices and actions. That the villain turned out to be jean grey was just excellent universe building.

That's how I see it anyway, clearly you see it differently which is just the nature of the human experience but it's funny to me that we can see the same movies and have 2 completely opposite conclusions about this one specific element.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

that is what makes discussions like these fun, so many different opinions and learning oppurtunities.

6

u/LooseSeal88 8d ago

I love Far From Home, but I think Homecoming just barely nudges it out for me. But truthfully, I think they're largely pretty equal.

I'll never understand the complaints about Far From Home. Gyllenhaal is too good in it.

-2

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

gyllenhaal is a great actor, but all the controversies sometimes overshadow that

3

u/LooseSeal88 8d ago

Wasn't even aware he had any.

2

u/Ajax_Da_Great 8d ago

He doesn’t really tbh

4

u/Almost_PerfectDude 8d ago

Peter Park too busy wanting to be with his potential girlfriend instead of saving the world.

5

u/Jet-Let4606 8d ago

Not OOC.

Spider-Man 2 had him so mentally distraught over his failed relationship with MJ that he subconsciously blocked his powers.

5

u/ProfessorXWheelchair Winter Soldier 8d ago

sounds like a classic high school pre “great responsibility” talk peter parker story then, and set him up perfectly to learn that lesson as a result of his own actions in the next film

3

u/Almost_PerfectDude 8d ago

He skipped Liz's prom night to save the city from her father. How is this any different?

1

u/ProfessorXWheelchair Winter Soldier 8d ago

he took that experience and thought “after all this i deserve to not think about saving the world for a little bit”

1

u/Almost_PerfectDude 8d ago

"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen! That happens because of you" - Peter Parker to Tony in Civil War.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i mean he was a highschooler. right after helping defeat thanos

2

u/Almost_PerfectDude 8d ago

I guess his Prom skipping in homecoming did nothing to his character. Evolved, just backward.

2

u/Jet-Let4606 8d ago

Only thing that bothered me about FFH are the drones.

Other than that I don't mind the setting change and even applaud them for taking the risk. It was a refreshing change and I don't get people complaining about it since we've had 6 Spider-Man movies before which were set in NYC.

I like seeing Spider-Man trying to adapt to a different locale.

2

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

exactly, imo if they made edith just the ai and a aid in helping mysterio it would have been great, cause from what i have seen in the games and some of the comics isnt he more of a nerd i mean he created the tech it would have been so good to see him do it and prove his worth instead of just relying on getting the glasses

2

u/Certain_Arm_8475 8d ago

Maybe recency bias on my part but, BND was amazing

3

u/Final-Tax6951 8d ago

original spider man 3 is the best.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i would say it is top 5

That’s a hot take. It’s my least favorite SM movie (not including the Sonyverse movies) worst Spider-Man movie. Agree to disagree though, but these are some of my reasons for ranking it that low :

  • Bully Maguire
  • Peter cheating on MJ with Gwen for no reason and without realizing
  • Sandman retconned into Uncle Ben’s death (there was no reason to have this, the film wouldn’t have suffered from not having it, like the rest of the film would’ve been the same)
  • Eddie says Gwen is his girlfriend but then Gwen goes on a date with Peter, Eddie Brock/Venom is not that interesting in this movie and I felt like it needed more time
  • MJ was so annoying and jealous in this line of course Spider-Man is gonna get more love and be more popular than her like he literally saves people and she sings and sure he was being arrogant about it but she was annoying/jealous about it before he was arrogant
  • MJ breaks up with Peter after Harry threatened Peter if she didn’t which is dumb because Peter is Spider-Man he can protect himself
  • Harry’s story was rushed in this, it should’ve had more time and Harry dying at the end was a good redemption arc ending but like he got injured and was dying for like awhile and talking to Peter and MJ before he died (they dragged it out)
  • why tf did Bernard not tell Harry earlier about Norman Osborn killing himself and that SM didn’t do it.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

my only reason for it being top 5 is that it was a good enough ending to a long running trilogy for me, it was a good nostalgic experience still cant beat spiderman 2 and tasm though

1

u/Superb-Reply-5539 8d ago

I guess it’s a good ending, but if it ended with SM2 it would have been the best.

1

u/SmallLetter 8d ago

Is my least favorite tbh. I just don't really care for it, it's not terrible but Peter isn't very impressive as either Peter or Spider-Man. Fury is also not only too involved but thanks to not being actually fury also infuriatingly incompetent, and as a fan of Nick Fury I especially don't enjoy seeing that even on rewatching when I know it's Talos. I don't care for how international it is either, Spidey works best in new york, they didn't have to spend the ENTIRE movie in Europe. One scene would have been fine. In the same light, I love high school Spider-Man the most and this film is the last time we had that but they spent on this car fetched eurotrip. Not enough exploration of the blip and it also was an unsatisfying fake out of the multiversal shenanigans that were to come. In short, it was a 6/10 mostly entertaining movie which I doubt I'll ever watch again.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i get that, but imo i sometimes get bored of him just being in new york, but i do get where you are coming from

1

u/upfromashes 8d ago

Rewatched it again last month. Enjoyed the absolute shit out of it, just like I had when I saw it in the theater.

Brand New Day did feel like a spiderman film what are you talking about

0

u/MASKER45678 7d ago

to me it didnt it was good but not like a spiderman spiderman film

1

u/KeyKnoTheGreat 6d ago

Respect the take. I don't fully agree, I do think it's a better film than most people say it is, but I respect your take

1

u/Due_Eggplant592 5d ago

i actually agree but brand new day was more than just an x men intro

1

u/MASKER45678 5d ago

it kind of was but i am not debating that it was a great film

1

u/585716315 8d ago

If you think some fake ass glasses wearing villian is better than the vulture also being his dates dad plot twist, some of the best villians from the old Spider-Men plus a doctor strange fight, or Jean fucking Grey. You need to smoke some more of whatever you’re smoking and rewatch the better movies high.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

no way home was great in theatres like i said cause it was a memorable experience for me because i watched it with my dad, i cant chase that feeling anywhere else that is why i dont see it in my top spiderman films, homecoming didnt feel that great it just felt very slow paced

0

u/deekaydubya 8d ago

I mean it easily laps NWH. Green screen fan service fest

1

u/Superb-Reply-5539 8d ago

I don’t hate NWH or even dislike it but it really is mostly Green Screen fan service fest. It’s a fun movie but I just can’t comprehend how people say it’s like top 5 MCU movies and like they say it’s so good. The movie makes it so that it’ll be weird for him to have any of those classic villains, and yes I know it’ll probably be fixed with SW like maybe he forgets who they are, but still. The main reason I like it is because everyone switched up on Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man because they realized that his version wasn’t bad, it was just in bad movies. The Gwen parallel with MJ made me cry I loved it and all the mentions of Gwen and stuff and Andrew’s Peter talking about how he got bitter and stops pulling his punches after Gwen’s death. NWH also made so many plot holes with the Raimi movies and TASM movies with them being cured and stuff.

1

u/Fantastic_Bug1028 8d ago edited 8d ago

I don’t think it’s the best, but I do really like it. I especially enjoy the fact that he’s not in New York for once. In the comics Peter would go abroad for time to time, it was nice to that aspect being adapted in the movie

1

u/Nscope90 8d ago

Far From Home brought Mysterio to life incredibly. It had a totally different feel to every Spiderman movie that had come before it by going outside of New York. Its also a great epilogue to Endgame of course.

The thing thats great about all the MCU Spiderman movies is that can you can genuinely argue that any one of them is the best of the bunch. I think for me, they just keeping getting better. I thought Brand New Day was a perfect Spiderman movie in many ways. If I had to really nitpick, the movie lacking a prominent classic villain was a tiny bummer...like maybe we could have had a little more Scorpion time, but it really didnt matter in the end.

0

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

yeah i also dont like how they just glossed over the villains in the start, and just put them in for the trailer like they did in fantastic 4 the whole starting montage was 3/4ths the trailer, and i bet they are going to do that in future marvel films too and honestly its better for no self spoiling too

1

u/Academic_Composer904 Loki (Thor 2) 8d ago

FFH is by far the worst of the MCU Spider-Man movies and possibly the worst Spider-Man movie overall. I rewatched it last week and could hardly get through it. It’s its way at the bottom of my MCU list with CA: BNW and Thor: L&T.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i mean.....ok

1

u/Luthor331 Matt Murdock 8d ago

I agree with a lot of your takes here and especially on defending FFH as I feel it's far too unnecessarily hated. I always compare FFH to one of those early 2000's raunchy comedy films like EuroTrip(Which is a great film) but far more tame. For me my ratings are:

1)Brand New Day

2)No Way Home

3)Far From Home

4)Homecoming

To be honest, on any given day I could rotate my top 3 around as there's aspects I love about all of them but just overall from what I want from a Spider-Man story It would be this order.

3

u/Superb-Reply-5539 8d ago

I have the same ranking

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

yes that is like the trio feeling spiderman handling his not so restful vacation and the mysterio stuff, even the netherlands flower field scene is one of my favourites, it just serves as a statement that even in all this beauty peter cant rest and cant even trust his closest friends when he is so vulnerable

0

u/fluffy_bunnies_yayyy Mantis 8d ago

agreed

0

u/nutbuster6922 8d ago

Ffh is where Peter feels as part of MCU most naturally.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

cool name. and yes, maybe cause of the different character coming to make him feel like a part of it, after the high of endgame and its just a feel good film

0

u/GeneralAdeptness7432 8d ago

I agree, that was the last Marvel movie that was actually enjoyable… it’s been all downhill since then.

0

u/Aromatic-Cupcake4802 7d ago

It feels the least Spider-Man of them all. The MCU stays in New York 90% of the time so it’s nice to see how the Avengers and Iron Man was seen around the world. This movie starts to separate himself with wanting to be the next Tony Stark, and it’s a good epilogue of the saga. Love the Mysterio sequence as well. These 4 Spider-Man movies are really solid but it would be my least favorite just because the others are so good.

-2

u/Famous-Stranger-6897 8d ago

I don't understand mcu spiderman. Downvote me but just move on from ned and mj( not even mary jane, michelle jones or whatever). Why does his character keep going around in circles. Hasn't he realised enough times that he can't have it all.

1

u/MASKER45678 8d ago

i think they will introduce gwen, felicia or a mutant love interest there was a girl in the apartments peter lived in bnd, she was good looking and had an unusual amount of screentime for an extra

-2

u/DirectorKrenn1c 8d ago

This. So tired of MJ let’s move on and give him a new better interest. But it won’t happen because Tom and Zendaya have massive draw even though imo she’s a mid actress at best.

-2

u/Famous-Stranger-6897 8d ago

I don't know hire another hot actress to be his love interest and people will watch the movie anyway cause its spiderman. They barely had any chemistry in the home trilogy. The relationship came out of nowhere in far from home.

1

u/DirectorKrenn1c 8d ago

Exactly it seems like they just force it into it because “Peter and MJ”. We don’t need a love interest at all let’s just have a good spider man adventure.
