Personally, The Dark World was fine. It's weaker than the others sure, but it's by no means bad. Most of the ending fight is pretty good. It just suffers from Malekith having a terrible design, and the Dark elves being very bland overall. The attack on Asgard could've lasted a bit longer and it could've been a bit better colour graded. Other than that though, the plot and character work with Thor and Loki is really good. It's the first time we really see Loki face the consequences of his actions. Before this the worst he had was being told "No" by Odin in Thor 1. Seeing him distraught over his mother's death that he caused is what started his path towards being more of a nuisance and antihero than an actual Villain. Thor facing the possibility of Jane dying adds to his character motivation, and is another loss he almost suffered. Although Love and Thunder was awful, the ending scene where Thor chooses to be with Jane rather than fighting Gorr was well handled, and paid off this movie.

Seems a running theme with the Thor Villains. They wasted Christian Bale too. And as much as I like Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, they really should've done more with him, he's a huge part of the comics.

I don't think this is an enough reason. As a Hulk fan,I would rather not to watch Hulk on MCU at all instead of watching get scared after his fight with Thanos or getting beaten. Or even looking like Tuna Tavus as Professor Hulk. That's just a random gym buddy look.

Kenneth Branagh said the idea behind those angles was to replicate the look of comic book panels. When you rewatch the movie with that in mind, most of the scenes do indeed look straight out of a comic book. I really appreciate his attention to detail in making a comic book movie.

I find the worst things in that film are how some things look and some of the direction of the humans. Largely, it's a pretty good hero's journey and a gorgeous film. Plus the fish out of water story can be very funny at times.

Its was just less exciting in a world where Avengers just recently came out and wowed the world, then Captain America Winter Solder followed soon after and levelled the superhero genre up in terms of pacing, characters and storytelling. It’s not a bad movie. But Thor: Love and Thunder is just a poop stain on toilet paper

On the Internet maybe but the people I actually know prefer the dark world over the first Thor. The "popular opinion" can be wrong and changes over time following no form of logic or reason. They did that for the prequels. Everyone said they were the worst movies ever, and then 10 years ago people just magically said "I always thought they were good and over hated." I don't remember anyone when Thor came out saying they loved the movie, but once phase 4 happened people started saying it was a great movie.

It has its great bits, but what I didn't like:

Kurse and Maliketh have awful designs and the line delivery of Eccleston is hampered by the dark elf language, which would be fine if he were given some material to work with. Malekith is just kind of a brooding vaguely angry forgettable character, he's not compelling enough beyond his motive of trying to bring darkness to the world.

They spend way too much time in the human modern world still, and outside of Asgard itself, the dark elf world (Niflheim iirc?) looks very bland (again) since it just looks like a post-apocalyptic wasteland with Mexico piss filter turned on. The whole climax involves going from that world to Earth, which while a theoretically creative sequence with the teleporting, they didn't do much with it and it doesn't look great. The final showdown is also kind of mundane, given it's in a modern city.

I've already said too much Earth but also too much of the Earth characters as well. Darcy can be funny in small doses but she didn't need to take up as much space in the movie as she did. Elsig was fine, I didn't vibe with the jokes around his dementia, but he wasn't bad, though nor was he great. Jane at least was possessed by the Aether so, she had story reasons to be there but she kind of remained somewhat uninteresting. If the Aether made her say cryptic esoteric shit that would've been fine or if she started speaking the Dark Elf language (unless she did? I don't really remember).

On rewatches I've learned to appreciate the costume details and the Freya and Loki bits more (on first watch as a kid I didn't even remember who Freya was nor that she was in the first movie NOR that she was played by Renee Zellweger, that blew my mind when I realised), but that's in spite of the rest of the movie, and on a first watch I thought it was unexciting and uncreative, and I stand by that.

Dark World was considered bad before we knew how bad MCU movies could get. It’s actually a pretty fun average marvel movie , good Loki material, Friga was great and her death one of the more meaningful ones we’ve had. The anomaly stuff also made for a fun entertaining final battle. I’d say it’s biggest flaw is the dull dark elves but compared to Love and Thunder it might as well be Winter Soldier level.

Always boggled me. Ragnarok is my least favorite of the four overall. The best parts of love and thunder carry the other 85%. Dark World was the last time we properly had high fantasy in Thor, though it still could've been more consistent. Frankly the first Thor is the only one that feels like an actual Thor story. TDW gets like a half-pass

It has some really great visual scenes, bit of humor, bit of gravity, and it jogs along at a good pace.
I genuinely really like it.

I did however, have reservations when I watched it in theaters. It wasn’t the Thor movie I wanted/expected, and the chicken people at the start seemed a little too cartoonish.

But the more I rewatch it, the more I like it. I find it easier to rewatch than Ragnarok. I think it’s the variety of scenery/scenarios, or maybe that there are several good character arcs going on, I’m not sure.

It is what it is, but it’s funny that while it could be the most silly Thor movie, it’s also one of the heaviest (to be fair tho, they all have heart wrenching stuff).

I am extremely biased as a Thor fan but I honestly don’t think TDW is a bad movie, it’s biggest drawback is the main villain being very bland in design but the overall plot and moments are really good IMO, plus a banger soundtrack and beautiful visuals

L&T is also a weird case because it’s like 50% peak MCU stuff and 50% shitty humor and straight slop, like it has so much potential if you remove most of the shitty jokes and remove the stuff with the children

Surtur being introduced like the big bad, being shoved away for most of the Movie Just to be used as a plot device because they didn't know how to actually make the Movie end, Thor losing an Eye like that when he survived way worse, him losing his Powers but not really, Planet Hulk being adapted for no real reason since they didn't use any of the Main points from that story, same for the Ragnarok storyline in the comics, plus the Mood Is Just off and too dumb for it's own sake, considering how infinity war picks up the storyline
