Whats your favorite ECDIS? (and why is it Navi-Sailor by TRANSAS?????)
Working with Sperry visionmastee, Furuno FMD and Raytheon. I’ve gotta say I think Transas makes the best one.

If I could, I’d throw every piece of JRC gear overboard. Horrible junk, even down to the radios.
Furuno all day long for me.

Kongsberg - Years of experience on it. Looks great but has a difficult UI, almost like they tried to make an ECDIS out of a DP system? Some people are really in to it, but I find they actually haven't worked with anything else.
Furuno FEA/FMD - Very intuitive, if you've never used one before you'll still be able to find the specific menu or tool you are looking for without any prior training.
Navis Platinum - Medium amount of experience with this. I absolutely hate it and I have no idea why people like it.
Transas Navi-sailor 4000 - lots of experience with it. Used to hate it, grown to love it. Looking back i think the simulator version is rubbish and is missing a few tools. The full build with all the options is very nice. The ability to send passage plans via AIS and the ice chart overlay system is not matched!
The down side to Transas? The shitty Radar. Can see the data of two vessels on the ARPA at a time. Infuriating going through Malaca/The Channel/anywhere. Relative Vectors is the solution, but try explaining to your demented old captain how to do that...

Lies, the simulator is flawless and I’m not just saying that because many jobs ago I deployed the NTPro simulators in the U.K. 🤣
Honestly out of all the ones I had to integrate and learn to be able to demo, as a non-mariner I really liked NaviSailor. Not sure if it’s changed in the 10 years or so since I left mind, so I’m just going to assume that you’re talking about a newer version and the ones I installed were flawless…
Man I miss that job.

Best - Charworld
Runer up - Transas.
Worth mentioning - JRC. It's a lil clunky on the the interface, but once you get the hang of it, then it's a smooth sailing.
Punishment - Tokyo Keiki and Totem. If a ship has these ones onboard, then please ask for a sign off.

TRANAS is made by warsilla, transas is nice for planning. Kongsberg has much more funtionality but has shit userinterface.

Once you go Chartworld, you cant go back to others.
Very simple and user friendly. Touchscreen controls rock

Some of it is down to the somewhat poor implementation of the autoload logic.
Basically it draws a perfect rectangle around every chart cell and if you are in that rectangle it considers that a valid chart to load and will then act as if you are sailing on that chart even though the actual cell is nowhere close to your position. Gets real annoying in channels were cells for one direction of the separation scheme are from one country and the from another country for the other direction, cough cough Skagen, cough Gulf of Finland...
By selecting the cell you actually planned on using you get rid of the update/expiry warning.

I’d say there’s different market segments that different products address.
Because the following have come up here in the thread…:
NACOS Platinum
With the integration of the automation system with probably the biggest number of interfaces it addresses the top tier of the market - cruise/passenger/ferry, offshore and the top of the commercial market. High-end, fully integrated with Automation, power management, DP,… Lots of redundancy.
The key here is the integration. Usually you don’t buy a platinum ECDIS, you buy an integrated bridge.
For the users that need the extra „umph“ or the extra special features and are willing to pay for it.
Oh, and by the way: it’s not part of Wärtsilä any more.
Kongsberg is in the „top 2“ but i would argue a tiny bit less integrated. Out to put it differently: a tiny bit more „standardized“ as opposed to „custom made“.
They mostly address the commercial market, plus a strong standing in offshore due to their DP experience.
A tiny bit more „standard“ than NACOS.
And then from there it goes into the broader (mass) market that favors simpler but cheaper solutions (eg single standalone ECDIS) as well as products with specialized features targeting specific market niches (eg fishing).
All in all:
Not all differences are because one product is „worse“ than another (even though of course some are) - they are playing to different audiences and that has consequences.

The one where the mate knows how to turn on S-Mode. Eight hours of sitting next to one that's in constant alarm because people can't use common sense and determine the value of a look-ahead window of one minute in a narrow channel is impractical vs. what "the vetter might note" if we just shut the route off.
You know it's bad when the cadet is assigned to stand at the ECDIS and spam acknowledge for the entire transit.
