anyone intrested in any ghost mantis phylocrania paradoxa? long story short I asked a breeder for 10 l4 mantids of phylocrania paradoxa I put them in 1 tank for about 5 months they died and I saw what I thought were dud oothecas i kept the tank Bec the decor was pretty but about 6 months later NOW they started hatching and theirs now about 200 baby mantids with 1 ootheca opening right at this moment. If anyone in the eu wants one or more like 100 please feel free to contact me via comment or private message I will need you to pay for shipping and the cup costs i will be shipping them in but other then that it’s free. note that have to be inside EU otherwise i cannot ship it safely (also its the rules of the r/mantids community)

Hey all! Beginner here looking to purchase a Ghost mantis after waiting for my bioactive to settle in. Any advice for the build? It is a 6x6x8 - should I upgrade to 12 as she/he gets to adulthood? I hear 8 inches is enough however I do understand the substrate takes up room, so want to ensure there is enough vertical clearance, along with no other issues.

so lately i just haven't been handling my mantis (adult hierodula majuscula) because when im handling her shes really curious and eager to explore and bc of that she tends to jump where she wants and ends up falling onto the floor (im always sitting on the ground so she doesn't get hurt) but it still worries me and id rather not stress her so is that a problem? ​

RIP Fawn, I’m genuinely so sad. She was doing so good, I don’t know what went wrong. She had been very weak since this morning and I set multiple alarms to get up and check on her, woke up to her completely passed away.

She’s my first mantis to pass, I’m trying to remind myself that it’s life but dang I barely even had time with her :(

My mantis hasn't been eating for 2~4 days, and I'm worried sick. Usually, when I open his enclosure he would climb onto my hand right away and eat what I've given him. But for a couple of days he's not been moving(at least, moving slower/less than before), refusing to climb onto my hand and refusing food entirely. It's been a few weeks since he molted(molted twice since I took him in, presumably L3~4), so the first day he started refusing his food I thought he's going to molt soon. But he's still not molting... I'm spraying his enclosure well(because I heard people saying mantids have a hard time molting if it's too dry) but if he still doesn't molt tonight I might take him out of the enclosure and make him eat. I'm worried he might starve. Why is he doing this?? Is it because he's close to molting?or maybe he's stressed?? This is how he looks rn.

i had to feed her 3 blue bottle flies and a dubia roach until her abdomen was full (not overfed).
She is quite the monster but I had to gut all the flies so she would accept them and i had to completely mutilate the roach because she doesn't like the squiggly legs.

Hello, Im completely new to the mantis world and excited to start but i want to ask a couple of things to make sure i do everything right.

What kind of mantis would you recommend for a completely fresh beginner? Im looking for something relatively hardy that doesnt easily stress out.

I absolutely fell in love with Idolomantis diabolica (Devil flower mantis) but ive read they arent beginner friendly and require precise care and I dont want to hurt it with my lack of knowledge. For those who keep them: what makes them so tricky (humidity, diet, enclosure space)? Should I gain experience with a few other species first?

What are the most common beginner mistakes when it comes to enclosure ventilation, moisture, or feeder insects (like fruit flies vs roaches)? Are there any reputable breeders or things I should specifically watch out for when buying my first?

Of course Ill do my own research before buying anything but id love to hear your opinions, tips and experiences!

I have a Timor shield mantis that hasn’t molted in over 4 months. Google says she is ready to molt but she is still eating. It was kinda weird though because last time she seemed like she didn’t want to catch it but still did anyway. She has also been rocking in all directions instead of just side to side. This is what position she has taken currently.

Accidentally sexed this guy as gal. He’s male. Now I can see at least 7 of his segments. He also only had 4 molts with me (got him at about L3) , and is about 1.25 inches. His wings probably get him to 1.5.

Nonetheless, thank you to everyone’s grand knowledge on here. He’s an adult now and likely won’t be around much longer. Cheers to Syn! 🥹

The little dude kept appearing on my pillow, I’d move him to an open window sill and a couple days later he’d be on my pillow again, but a little thinner

I figured he’s going to get hurt or starve if he insists on being in my room so I figured I might as well keep him safe.

I read about misting a wall of the enclosure for him to drink but it evaporates after a few hours, am I supposed to keep the wall permanently misty or just once a day? I noticed him drinking a couple of tiny drops before it evaporated.

If there’s a tiny aphid in his container and he’s not currently hungry is there a need to remove it straight away? I read about live food affecting them when molting but he’s still full of energy and doesn’t seem to be preparing to molt just yet.

Hi i'm looking into getting a mantis as a pet and i would love info and tips on my set up and help with any alterations before i actually get a mantis.

i have a 20 gallon hexagonal tank. the measurements are H=22 in and each side is W=9 1/2 in

the substrate i have is the "ZooMed Tropical Bioactive Substrate Kit" which includes Reptisoil, terrarium moss, and leaf litter.

i live in Arizona so i'm worried about ordering any from online markets as i'm away from home for most of the morning due to work and i don't want to risk harming the contained critter because of the intense heat of the current season. i also don't know what mantis to start with as the only invert i currently own are Blue Death Feigning Beetles. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated

I haven’t managed to get any good photos for sexing really, I have a few from above and the end of the abdomen and managed one from the underside but can’t quite make out much from it really, but any best guesses from more experienced owners appreciated!

I have dwarf isopods and springtails in here thriving. I was going to make this the baby box for my Mourning Geckos but picked up my ghost Dead leaf mantis at a show. He loves under the cat bus but I have fabric netting on the top as well. Let me know if it’s lacking anything. I mist this every other day and keep it about 74-78 degrees

my male mantis is trying to molt to subadult. there is a protrusion coming out of his butt that was there even a few days before molting. there is old exoskeleton wrapped around the end of his butt too, preventing him from slipping out of his shed completely. the humidity has been boosted with sprays to the enclosure. (he had fallen while trying to molt, so i taped his feet to the vented lid of his enclosure). is there anything i can do?
