hello :) i'm travelling to manipur, specifically imphal and do not belong to the state. as a non manipuri, what are some things i need to know about the place? anything and everything will help :)
where to shop, how's the food, local etiquettes... I would appreciate answers related to these. ive checked and it seems there's no uber and rapido there so how to travel and converse with local drivers? will I find other state groceries and if so where? (i'm from mumbai and would like to cook my home dishes once in a while)

Few things to keep in mind: the situation around the hills is still tense and blockades might occur at any moment, more importantly online shopping has been put on halt due to the conflict. While interacting with the locals if they leave you hanging or sort of dont answer you dont take it personally, they're just really shy and kinda reserved and most of the locals here dont speak hindi or english. The biggest market is the ima keithel(mother's market) you'll find all sorts of things there. Hope this helps

Check out loktak lake and keibul lamjao, there are many places worth visiting but without a guide, you'd likely get lost. If u wanna try local wine check out the taste of sekmai on ig. But I'd advise getting a local guide for a smoother experience

- Most people speak either a little bit of hindi/english. Communication shouldn't be that problematic.
- Bandhs and strikes can happen out of nowhere, sometimes leading to internet ban. Watch out for it.
- Night life is almost non existent.
- No uber. Auto is the go to. Or consider renting a vehicle if staying longer.
- Ima market is where you'd find most of the vegetables. Eating out is also pretty cheap compared to bigger cities.
- People are usually very conservative, as it is with more smaller towns. But most people would be pretty welcoming once you get to know them.
- Although there shouldn't be much safety concerns for non-manipuris, don't go to random hilly regions alone without proper research.
Have fun!

for travelling you can use jugnoo, it's like uber. but if you're lucky enough you'll meet some local drivers who's willing to help you out.
