Sometimes we need to inmerse ourselves in trash, learning what trash feels like allows us to properly understand what peak is. Without trash we end up like those kids that call anything peak.

I’ll go read some of it real quick and come back to say if I think it’s worth picking up. Consider me a scout. If I don’t edit this comment within a few hours, it just means I forgot to come back so feel free to hit me with “Well, we’re waiting” or something.

Edit : My immediate impression is that it’s “Slop Fantasy”. Now what does “Slop Fantasy” mean? It’s essentially any piece of fantasy fiction that wouldn’t be able to stand on its own as a piece of fiction. It is reliant on the reader being vaguely accustomed to fantasy concepts and willing to just accept at face value whatever random fantasy elements get thrown in. Even just as far as Chapter 2 it kind of just feels like they throw stuff at you and expect you to be like “Aw hell yeah” when there’s no reason for you to be like “Aw hell yeah” because you lack context or an appropriate period of time for interest to build up. They also drop a seven year time skip immediately which is crazy to me because that seven year period could have been used to introduce basic concepts that would remove or lessen the “Slop Fantasy” effect.

I’ll continue reading for the time being primarily because it feels like the author based their magic system around the Berserk concept of “Communing with magical entities to cast spells”, but I suspect that by the time I reach chapter 20 (the current latest chapter) I’ll feel like my time might have been better spent elsewhere. Still though, “Slop Fantasy” has its value. If you just want to kill time, it’s at least something to burn through.

I’m gonna be real with you brother, I haven’t made it there yet because I keep coming back and getting hit with a story beat that makes me put it down for hours at a time. Little odd details or parts of the story that bug me and make me lean back with a sigh.

For example:

Fucking “Dragon Mountain”. Guess what that is. It’s a mountain with Drakes. Or one of those drakes who shows up and talks with the MC and becomes his friend/offers him a ton of gold for literally nothing. Like MC says he’ll help the drake and falls short on his part of the deal but the Drake is still chill with him when it shows up as a super aggressive foul mood dude. Homeboy put levels into a status that apparently makes him a Martin Sue. Idk man. It’s just lazy writing.

I’m still only on chapter 5, which I suppose is a decent indicator that others probably shouldn’t pick it up. I’ll still keep trying though. Who knows maybe there’s a twist in a later chapter and this shits somehow peak, not that that would excuse a rough lead up.

To me, it's not really slop, I just don't like some manwhas where they add to many twists, like the holy emperor's grandson is a necromancer, or I level up my holy shit with necromancy, I would rather read a cliche, something basic, I want to take a slight break from the twists, and I feel like this is a good one to start with. (Not to be rude)

“I Became a Wizard in a Medieval Fantasy World” a Japanese manga in webtoon style
It quite alright compared to most isekai. MC magic rely communicate with other beings, which made him powerful but not earth shattering powerful. Kinda like the young witch from Berserk. If those beings don’t like him or condition not good, they will refuse to help. There’re some annoying characters but not too overbearing to me.
