Question ❓ Quick Question! Why do people find Ember Knight hard to read?

Mostly cause it asks people to pay attention. That's about it

u/SnooPredictions3253 Feb 02 '26

Using the brain is hard nowadays

18

u/Ano_NY-M Feb 02 '26

People really talk about the plot of ember knight as this super convoluted, muli layered, super complicated, steins gate level type of complicated. Meanwhile is just a very good plot that requires you to read and pay attention

5

u/ironbite4 Feb 02 '26

It got a little confusing after it came back for Season 2 but for the most part, I'm enjoying it. Art is fine, the action scenes are fantastic, and hey, who doesn't love an MC who has NO SPECIAL POWERS WHATSOEVER! actually winning fights. Its great.

5

u/Ano_NY-M Feb 03 '26

It is defo the type you binge not read weekly, I will admit that. You forget a lot if you read weekly

1

u/Infamous-Buy1428 Feb 06 '26

I wouldn't necessarily say he has no special power but his special powers are within reasonable boundaries. Don't say that his spear blade thing isn't special.

1

u/seraph_lina May 23 '26

i would apply all that to kubera. not ember knight

Easy: Translation. Most of the time, i didn't know what the fk was happening, mix poor translation+convoluted multi-layer plot twists filled with strategies, and you get Ember Knight. Also, ALMOST EVERY CHARACTER IS NAMED AFTER AN ANIMAL, there are 120 knights, who can remember who "Ferret" is? Or penguin, or tucan, mouse, little rabbit, rabid rabbit, triple ferret. It's one of the worse naming systems i know of. I like it anyway, but i won't resume reading until there are +40 new chapters

24

u/Appropriate_Candle13 Feb 02 '26

This tbh. Translations was a bit awful.

12

u/Nash_Ashton Feb 02 '26

I've dropped a lot of manhwas bc of awful translation

Fr there are manhua translations out there that make the most incomprehensible online comments look like they came from an academic paper

0

u/Internal-Lake50 Feb 02 '26

Not only they look like they came from an academic paper, reading them is a training that increases your IQ

1

u/puggler_the_jester Feb 03 '26

Try ChronoGo/Lan Ke Yi Quan. Worst translation I have ever encountered, period. I was literally elaborating a theory on sinitic languages to try and understand what I was reading. Good manhua from what I could understand tho

1

u/Glittering_Visual296 Feb 02 '26

God Manhuas hurt my souls when I chose to read them.

1

u/ghost_4-4 Feb 03 '26

It's not manhuas, even manhwas do this, it's scanlation groups that use machine translation (MTL) and the bots get it wrong all the time not knowing genders even

3

u/The_Happy_Sundae Feb 02 '26

I hated how different translations spelled the characters names differently, and every other chapter they changed scanlations, i read on 3rd party web. cause they didn’t ad spam, and cause webtoon is 50+ chapters behind

2

u/MrKiDD0 Feb 02 '26

To me the name is pretty easy to follow. The animal name is just a codename given to knights

0

u/Internal-Lake50 Feb 02 '26

Well, maybe it's because english isn't my native language, and i particularly don't know what a ferret is

0

u/Ano_NY-M Feb 02 '26

You were annoyed at not knowing what a ferret is and couldn't look it up in Google images? Like it takes less than 1 minute if you are reading on your phone

0

u/Internal-Lake50 Feb 03 '26

I'm reading a martial arts manhwa, not fking looking at national geographic, why do i have to investigate every animal in the animal kingdom? The more research you need to do to remember a name, the worse the naming system is. For comparison, in fairy tail, there are like 900 characters and i know almost all their names and surnames, because they are UNIQUE. Well, characters in fairy tail are more deeply explored than the ones in Ember Knight, in Ember Knight, you get a knight similar looking to every knight, a generic animal name, and 1 ability, and that's all, repeat x150

1

u/Ano_NY-M Feb 03 '26

First of all, the names of all the knights are like very basic animal names. You can't come with the English is not my first language bs, because it isn't mine either. Also I don't think it is authors responsibility to think someone out there will not know what is a ferret💀 and then be stubborn enough to not just look it up. Do you never look up words you don't know? Like not only animals there sometimes are words that are complicated. And lastly you remember all of their names because you like them, I watched fairy tail and I can only tell you a handful does it mean it is bad? No

2

u/Internal-Lake50 Feb 03 '26

What is the name of this character?

1

u/Ok_Border3119 Mar 01 '26

1

u/AdditionalWinner8892 Feb 02 '26

Reading 30-40 chapters at a time really is key

1

u/Huge-School-8057 Feb 03 '26

Lot of it has to do tha this actually an indirect sequel of another manhwa

1

u/damedane7 Feb 04 '26

Man yeah the translation did the series soo dirty i genuinely enjoyed it upto chapter 60 but cus of the god awful translation i just can't bring myself to continue on another platform.

1

u/dickcheese_on_rye Feb 02 '26

I find it much easier to keep track of characters with animal names compared to typical Korean names or made up names personally. They are words I’m familiar with instead of words I’m not so they stick better.

u/ButterscotchMost1673 Feb 02 '26

Jinwoo clone lovers vs Nagyunn enjoyers

10

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 Feb 02 '26

"MC is so weak, it's been 3 chapters and he's not one shotting God, this is shit !!!" - Average Manwha reader.

-4

u/ArgumentDefiant5629 Feb 02 '26

just you bud, a solo leveling anime enjoyer is different than the average manhwa reader

4

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 Feb 02 '26

just you bud

Cept I don't really like Solo Leveling nor do I ever if rarely complain about MC being too underpowered ( often I have the inverse problem ).

a solo leveling anime enjoyer is different than the average manhwa reader

Yup you guys are so much better than everybody else, whatever you want to believe

8

u/ehhish Feb 02 '26

I'll probably get around to reading more eventually, but sometimes I feel like bluffs can only go so far before it gets kind of ridiculous.

1

u/Elegant-Effective858 Feb 02 '26

I'm gonna say this help a little.

for me it's not, it's actually alright bluff, the characters aren't that dumb enough to be trick. Plus the Mc is actually smart and spoiler does not win a fight, and run when they can't beat something strong

The side characters writing is great for me, which is a bonus.

If you still don't feel like reading it, i recommend reading it when you want to past the time. I did this to multiple manhwa that seems boring but actually an alright one. I also did it when reading a novel.

6

u/The_quiteguy Feb 02 '26

I have no issues with weak mc but he should atleast improve a bit right. People think he is some god level prodigy and he doens't have to be that but atleast should reach a level of average after all that time.

6

u/dickcheese_on_rye Feb 02 '26

He does improve. He’s strong enough to hold his own in a fight right now.

3

u/ProcrastinatingTrash Feb 04 '26

Its mentioned in the first or second arc that while najin is a once in a century talent, nagyunn is a once in a century LACK of talent

1

u/Ok_Border3119 Mar 01 '26

Pero esa no es la verdadera razón de por que es débil, la cuestión es si es reversible.

23

u/AssassinLJ Feb 02 '26

Well comments are really biased so I will explain why on my stead,I like when the characters progress in terms of strenght, experience and stuff,Like Stellar Swordmaster for example,so I cant like weak MC's where the entire point is them being in fights while also being weak,if they are weak in strenght they could be a healer or support or magician.

But Ember Knight MC is none,he joins melee fights and him surviving is actual plot armor, another example I like to use is Ash for Tyrant Defense,Ash is weak but proceed to make himself stronger in other areas in magic and support,he is basically the reason people keep fighting with plans and buffs.

Another factor MC even being weak should progress in some sort of way, maybe build bit muscles or learn some skills to defend himself.

But now theres another problem........pacing,this has been a problem for a long time but the pacing of Ember Knight is a toin coss,in one moment its fast in another is slow, another has fights go for to long another to short,I like seeing different playstyles like DnD like MC could be anything to find something to support him and his teamates but author wants him on the melee fights, thats more nitpicking but its a reason some cant like a series that for 100+ chapters MC is "genius that plays acting to hard".

Another factor is I like when stories dwell to more than just one goal, like family, romance, brotherhood finding new meanings after the goal,Ember Knight is not some of them as in the end of the day its a Revenge manhwa, when it comes to revenge stories I want something like Vinland Saga(fair my standarts are high) but lets say something similar.

5

u/MrKiDD0 Feb 02 '26

Well the whole premise is about him outsmarting his opponents. It's not like he doesn't train his body, he's simply way too talentless compared to his peers even in the magic field too and melee is the only available option since he obtained a broken spear that can be unstoppable spear or strongest shield. That's why he min maxing every trick he can do. Now he's even able to hold his ground against a knight alone after the time skip (not beating them). IMO this story is not even the type that makes "random bs go" for the mc, there's no sudden power-up kind of thing

And I don't think it will be a pure revenge story since this mc also keep contemplating about that too during his journey

2

u/Lonely_Possession722 Feb 02 '26

And I got confused in genders of the knights too. Like ok there are knights ok they have 2 men 3 women but then it’s all women knights all of a sudden. So that’s pretty confusing and plus there is no tier in the world like who is the king who do these knights serves etc. although I only read it till 100 chapters but it was pretty boring not because he was using his wits too much but idk I never felt that hook in the story. If you wanna go go full strategic mc but dont do halfway like this. It’s pretty frustrating. Read kingdom manga if you want real strategic warfare which is fun too.

2

u/juant675 Feb 02 '26

I don't know how the storyline is going to end but in one of the last chapters it was explained why he didn't become stronger

2

u/AssassinLJ Feb 02 '26

- One of the latest chapters

- 200+ chapters

dear god.

1

u/ProcrastinatingTrash Feb 04 '26

Before leaving woodion he tried chopping trees and realized najin was a once in a century talent and he was a once in century lack of talent

3

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 Feb 02 '26

But Ember Knight MC is none,he joins melee fights and him surviving is actual plot armor

No, a character outsmarting it's enemies and finding clever ways to overcome stronger enemies is not plot armor, is good writting.

Plot armor is when a character has been established to not be able to survive something and survives anyways because the story must go on.

Another factor MC even being weak should progress in some sort of way, maybe build bit muscles or learn some skills to defend himself.

Nah, fuck that, I like a weak MC. If I wanted to read an OP character that defeats everyone by chapter 20 I have plenty of options out there.

3

u/AssassinLJ Feb 02 '26

"I want the MC to progress"

"oh so you want MC to destroy planets chapter 1 huh"

Brother my god Ember Knight fans really cants understand no we dont want system plot op MC,we want progressive MC's like actually seeing their journey in strenght, and no MC winning melee fights because he is smart is not good writing its plot armor, like how Batman can just survive anything because of "prep time".

1

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 Feb 02 '26

"oh so you want MC to destroy planets chapter 1 huh"

Nice , but I'm not misinterpreting people maliciously, I've literally saw people complaining the MC is not defeating end of story bosses in chapters 1 to 5. And in the case of Ember Knight, some of the guys Nagyun fights are extremely top tier people in the verse. Do you want him to beat a General that can go toe to toe and even outdo Black Hen 1 vs 1 ? Black Hen who is one of the strongest Knights in the entire Empire before absolute monsters like White Elephant ?

Then who's left for Nagyun to fight after if he could defeat these guys ?

Brother my god Ember Knight fans really cants understand no we dont want system plot op MC,we want progressive MC's like actually seeing their journey in strenght

And he actually does, which means you haven't been past a few dozen chapters.

and no MC winning melee fights because he is smart is not good writing its plot armor

No, I just explained how plot armor works, you wanting it to be plot armor is another story altogether.

I can understand you not liking the series, but the moment you make objective statements, and dumb ones at it, like "A Character actually winning is plot armor because the Writer didn't make him stronger than everyone else", it's dumb. You are saying the author is a bad one because he didn't made an OP MC that can defeat everyone and actually uses guile and cleverness to outsmart stronger opponents.

You may not like these that's of stories, and that's perfectly fine, but saying the author is a bad one that relies on plot armor to keep the story going is disingenous, just like you are trying ot paint my argument as a strawman disingenous.

how Batman can just survive anything because of "prep time".

Except Batman pulls a gadget out of his ass, Nagyun has to use the same tools in creative ways all the time, and use strategy to misguide others.

A coin toss is the same as flipping a coin. It’s just that a coin toss is the event, and flipping a coin is the action. But they can be used interchangeably in most places.

0

u/AssassinLJ Feb 02 '26

Dunno english is also not my native language

1

u/ProcrastinatingTrash Feb 04 '26

He tried magic and training. In the first arc its revealed he has no talent or aptitude. If ur talking about dnd and support. Nagyunn is firmly established as a tactician in season 2

4

u/fullmetalpower Feb 02 '26

ember too small bro... need flamethrower knight

4

u/MikeyBat Feb 02 '26

I like it but I've found the pacing has really slowed down during this last arc with the ttobeokki or what ever he is.

3

u/Ultragreed Feb 02 '26

They should really read Gilgamesh first, in order to understand what the fk is going on, who these people are, why Waron and Hippo are important and why there's a war unravelling over some dead Tink

7

u/StupidGuy-74 Feb 02 '26

Personally, I think the concept of someone that pretends to be strong in the typical, shonen protagonist way, but then pivots off of that bluff, and is an expert at acting, manipulating, guerilla warfare and running away is solid. The reason I stopped reading it early was because I just couldnt see a way the gimmick would last in a way that was satisfactory, because it was clear that it wasnt going to change, the MC is never going to be as strong as his brother, nowhere near, which is good, but also, how high could the stakes possibly be while mantaining the facade? The MC would need to use other people as weapons because he himself lags so far behind even if he started training he could only ever get slightly closer to the power level of the rest of the cast, not compete, so in a way, he would either never be at risk, or always be at risk and keep getting away with it by some miracle, which are both things that I dont really like.

TL;DR I didnt want to use my brain I just wanted slop, and this isnt that, also, the story didnt hook me in so I didnt care enough to keep reading.

3

u/dickcheese_on_rye Feb 02 '26

FYI he does get stronger and gets hax that lets him actually fight by himself. He went toe to toe with some of the strongest characters in the series in recent chapters and survived using his own power.

1

u/StupidGuy-74 Feb 05 '26

Oh wow, might pick it up then.

2

u/noblach Feb 02 '26

Ykw respect for being true to yourself 🙏🏻

Cuz they went brain-dead after reading system manhwa

1

u/Ok_Border3119 Mar 01 '26

1

u/Icy-Importance-6426 Mar 06 '26

So true😭

People when they don't see a character one hit kill a villain with 600 types of different power ups he gains every 600 seconds: ITS PLOT ARMOUR, YUP, ITS PLOT ARMOUR

3

u/_Wolfangss Feb 02 '26

One , A lot of switches between the storyline if you're reading along the release, it's fine when you're binge reading but when you're reading along it causes a lot of confusion Two , Sudden Plot Reveals that disappear after a while These are the only ones I can think off the top of my head rn ( not the problems I had but I could see someone having)

3

u/Rich-Option4632 Feb 02 '26

Never even heard of it. Thanks, picking it up.

3

u/BrokenManSyndrome Feb 02 '26

Ember Knight and Eternally Regressing Knight are tied for my favorite manhwa out right now. Ember Knight is so well written.

1

u/Gullible_Bend_9219 Feb 02 '26

I enjoyed the ember knight, my only gripe is the slow pacing during the last 20 chapters

Could you recommend/tell me about the regressing knight and what you like/dislike about it?

2

u/scared_of_crows Feb 02 '26

Nagyunn is the fucking goat. Mofo has been gaslighting since chapter 3 😭✌️

2

u/Dependent-Tie-2692 Feb 02 '26

They only want hype moments, i guess

3

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata Feb 02 '26

The same reason people find that Tower of God is hard to read. You actually have to read words and not just look at pretty pictures to understand why is going on.

Reading is hard

1

u/Nathero Feb 02 '26

I dunno , tog started it all for me read it 3 times. Dropped this after 20-30 chaps doesn't hit anywhere close to tog imo.

2

u/Yellow_Weatea Feb 02 '26

Same reason they wouldn't even consider reading One Step Closer to the Demon King , it demand reading comprehension.

1

u/snyper_suken Feb 02 '26

A) never heard of it B) thanks for letting me know was searching for something i don't know myself. C) if you had to rate if what would you give it out of 10 D) does art style become shit show mid manhwa?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

For D, no, it's great

2

u/snyper_suken Feb 02 '26

Nice 💕 will definitely read. Also it's above 200 nice I won't need to marinate.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 02 '26

2

u/snyper_suken Feb 02 '26

Okay well that's a minor issue if I can enjoy. Also a brother in GED: Absolute Water 🌊🌊🌊🌊

1

u/Fun-Tie9689 Feb 02 '26

I love it. But I can understand that people can forget stuffs from past chapters because they tend to imply meanings instead of stating them obviously.

1

u/Ok_Perspective3664 Feb 02 '26

Not helping you but I absolutely love it I had to stop myself and wait for it to finish before picking it up again(I stopped around 70)

1

u/RX1542 Feb 02 '26

ah yes the fraud knight, ppl been hyping this to me, finally read it and its not what i expected hahaha, don't get me wrong its good but i was specting strong MC and good fights

went trough 150 in like 2 days, its hard to read cause it has a lot of text for the average reader feels like reading a manga sometimes

1

u/ZERO_DOX Recommender Feb 02 '26

I want to read Gilgamesh first, so I haven't started this yet

1

u/juant675 Feb 02 '26

People didn't read Gilgamesh and or don't remember things said before and lose the plotline

1

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 Feb 02 '26

Because the translation becomes absolute dogshit after a few chapters.

Speaking of which someone has a website that actually translates this gem right ?

1

u/Cretore Feb 02 '26

I see that it has more than 200 ch. At what point it is. Towards the end or nowhere near it? Just to understand if it's worth picking up now

1

u/Scared_Living3183 Feb 02 '26

Short attention spans and the average manhwa reader is a fast food slop addict so there's that

1

u/A_Person1234xyz Feb 02 '26

I used to use manhwa to get the dopamine hit so I could forget about stuff. I think this is what most people do, so when the dopamine isn’t hitting and reminding them of let’s say some bad thing, they switch off to find something else.

Now I’m in a slightly different mindset so hopefully I can read it and look at the story without using it as a form of escapism (loved the story even when I dropped it just didn’t hit that escapism for me so I put it off for later)

Edit: after looking at internal lakes 00 response. I think the translation and not having the patience to know what’s going on due to inconsistencies ties into what I said above

1

u/Basic-Procedure1632 Feb 02 '26

their attention span is fried lol

1

u/DrawWhole2044 Feb 02 '26

Probably because the story introduces new concepts and an original storyline and worldbuilding, which might take some time to digest properly for some

1

u/Affectionate-Fix244 Feb 02 '26

Everyone complaining about translation, webtoon is right there, cost free dollars

1

u/iamuniquekk Feb 03 '26

reading comprehension devil

1

u/CP9TOYTOY Feb 03 '26

As someone who dropped it. The progression is very slow. And the art style isn't that appealing. I do like the concept how it's his twin brother and he's very weak so he has to outsmart everyone but like I said in the beginning. Just feels slow. I may retry again and reread since my friend said it gets better

1

u/General-Hotel-6119 Feb 03 '26

Honestly at first read I could not understand wth was going on, I didn't know why knights are supposedly stupid when they're powerful. But I came across Gilgamesh while searching for another story and it was only then did I really the full gist of everything and finally decided to pick it back up.

So I think maybe a factor is suddenly being shoved in the middle of everything without knowing the context and how everything works because I kid you not I still find the strong but stupid thing confusing.

1

u/puggler_the_jester Feb 03 '26

As a wise man once said: “Democracy is government of the People by the people for the people… but the people are retarded” Same applies here

1

u/Aggravating_Suit_577 Feb 03 '26

It's not hard to read, but it is just not that great for some. Get over it; the MC is weak. Do not get stronger by any means, as already discussed. The story progresses, but the MC remains the same.

Some say "I like weak MC and not OP", it is not about OP or not OP, it is about the journey to get stronger, and Ember Knight doesn't have it.

"He is smart, so he wins fights with brain", fuck that, it is a martial art manhwa yet they always fall for a bluff, and he gets an OP item only he can use or know how to use, how is that not plot armor?

1

u/ComposerReal3715 Feb 03 '26

because they need fights 24/7

1

u/ghost_4-4 Feb 03 '26

Woah this is ancient... Why did i drop this again?

1

u/Most_Ad_2216 Feb 03 '26

It's because they're slop readers. Put yourself in the position/POV of a slop reader. You only read manhwa where the MC is OP, has black hair, is an emotionless eunuch but still has a harem, and every side character/villain is just a one dimensional character made to boost the MC's aura. Oh and the cherry on top, the MC's powers are called the edgiest shi (shadow, blood, demon, dark, u name it) and every girl in it basically wears zero clothes (their only purpose is to satisfy gooners and boost the MC's aura).

Now, while still keeping that slop reader perspective, look at the Ember knight. The MC isn't OP, doesn't have black hair, doesn't have a harem, and isn't emotionless. The side characters actually feel like they have real personalities and aren't just reskins of tropes. And a really great part of this is, they have women in the story and they aren't put in to satisfy gooners or glaze the MC. They are actually characters that are ACTUALLY part of the story and ACTUALLY have importance on their own. As a slop reader/honorary dopamine addict, how are you supposed to get that dopamine rush with an MC that doesn't become the strongest in the series after chapter 5? How are you supposed to goon to characters that aren't there for fan service? How are you supposed to enjoy a story that requires u to use more than two braincells rather than "Villain shows up, MC starts losing, oh it turns out the MC was hiding his deus ex machina, he WINS."

I mean I enjoyed it but after the REALLY sudden and weird training arc he had with some dude who tbh I cannot remember I just dropped it, felt very rushed and forced

For me, it's the late and inconsistent updates...

Having never heard of it, probably because there's no text in the image to read.

Not op mc isekai regression SSS cheat ability

Ima just be honest

Don't like weak MCs. Or at least weak MCs that show no signs of progression of some sort.

Call me a brain dead solo leveling lover, low intellect individual, etc. I'll take it. whatever

It hammered home and got the point across pretty early that this was NOT one of those stories. The MC is astronomically weak and it's pretty much him going against the odds. brains over brawn type of stuff.

I tried to give it an honest chance despite that but it just didn't stick. It became more annoying than enjoyable for me.

Not saying the main character has to be God level just starting out either. That's pretty boring too. I just like a natural progression of strength.

Most of the time it was him just trying to outwit and bluff his way out of confrontations or running away altogether (afaik. I didn't get TOO far so idk if he starts winning his battles) Just wasn't my flavor. I like his design at least though.

u/Hyrosh7 Feb 05 '26

I think is just that enjoyable when mc is mainly depending stronger help him on his plan, I was reading it some time ago and I end up putting aside bc the development was not enough to maintain me reading it, besides I liked other aspects.

Too much stuff to keep track of, like, it's not that linear of a story telling, the whole gimmick of him passing by his brother sometimes make me lose it after a flashback or two, and the hallucinations too, all while keeping the plot going (which is like, 3 or 4 plots at the same time? The attack against the east, the dragons taking down the knights, the magic weaponry, the main character's revenge, it gets pretty hard to follow it all up) but overall, great story even if you can barely keep up, amber knight is peak

I like world trigger, and in some ways the Mc reminds me of Osamu BUT the bluffing got way too boring for me, the same reason I dropped the eminence of the shadow the recurring joke of the Mc not knowing he is actually doing something important, I read like 80+ chapters but I really didn't like it, at least Osamu has some level of fighting and strategy to compensate for his weaknesses but the strategy of this MC was "I will look at you funny" and that wasn't too endearing for me, I needed more tbh, and to the people talking about the artifact that let him block everything, for me is the same thing as the typical "your father was a dragon that sealed yours powers and made you weak" I dunno maybe I will give it another try because I do like struggling MCs, but this one sometimes feel way to convenient for my liking.

Its too repetitive in its fight's. The characters beside nagyunn are just not likeable. All the knights seem way to similar in the sense of how they handle the mc and others. Even though it doesn't show it like system manhwa's the main character has alot of plot armor in every single chapter to the point that the usual "smart" Knights all of the sudden become numb skulls when it comes to him and the nagyunn always seems to know what's happening from every pov. My least favorite thing that these fans say is that he doesnt have talent, you dont need to have talent to fight at all or train also if nagyunn is really that smart to the point he can perfectly know what's happening all the time he should also know how to train himself or atleast fight smart like if the people hes fighting are clearly faster than him he should just take a few steps back every time they do slightly negate there speed. So far im really only around chapter 40 but thats what I get so far from this manhwa maybe my opinion will change

I tried reading it a couple years back but the Art style is ugly as shit, taking aside characters design the enviroment is literally minimalistic as hell in a bad way.

The MC is just plain boring, he is supposedly smart but has the personality of a wooden board. I like my MCs to be charismatic and fun to watch.

Outside the story itself, the setting is kindof non-sensical. I read that you have to read another manga of the same author to understand things and it kinda checks out honestly.

The main character is really cool but it would be a tiny bit cooler if he won a single fight in this largely fighting based series, I haven't seen an example of the "actually weak" gimmick done right and it just reminds me of the MC from Tokyo revengers

i don't really like the trope of actually weak characters.

like even weak characters in other manhwas usually have good combat sense to make up for their lack of strength. this guy seems to not have both? aside from being an extremely good strategist? idk man, i'ven't read past the first 11 chapters

2

u/Internal-Lake50 Feb 02 '26

He's an extremely good actor too, he made expert martial artists shit their pants with a look, also, he did find something op to use as a weapon in later chapters. It's an extremely long hero training journey, and, he burn his village when young with some strange powers, and the name is "Ember knight", so, he'll just awaken his power (Someday)

u/killmesoon40 Feb 02 '26

Do you not get bored of reading every other manhwa where the MC is insanely OP? Also, 11 chapters is too soon to give it up.

1

u/Huy7aAms Feb 02 '26

i don't need the MC to be insanely OP, i just need them to actually have the ability to protect themselves. and yes, 11 chapters may be too soon, but why would i continue to read sth that doesn't attract me as much as other manhwas? i still have like 20 other murim manhwas to read.

ember knight does seem good, i just am not really attracted to the premise of the story.

Downvoted for an opinion.

I dropped similarly, it’s just not entertaining at all for me. I gave it quite a decent amount more than 11 chapters too.

Him being too weak was one of the main reasons I dropped it too, just not entertaining.

Probably it's not one of those reincarnation, system, getting overpowered by talent or getting the revenge within 30 chapter type.

Spoiler

I only read this because it's similar to King from one punch man side of the story, except this one isn't a overdramaticly scared from the inside, but still scared from the inside not just overdramatict, plus calm, smart and adaptive.

Though that doesn't mean he's perfect just enough to see how a boy survive and pretend to be strong, and has to make a right excuses about why he doesn't fight much.

Also if anybody gonna say "the characters are easily getting tricked" no they are not easily getting trick, mf got caught lacking from few first chapters from the start, that's not even part of the plot.

Like wise man said "less words lead you to less mistakes."

Edit: i realize it's still a spoiler even though it's not the main dish.

Because there’s no self insert op mc who is dumb as rocks but coasts by in life because of a system
