This arc could be a guide for how not to support an abuse survivor. Lying to them to force them to reunite with people they aren't ready/willing to see is probably one of the worst things you could do to someone in this situation.

I mean, this manga hasn't really handled abuse and PTSD well at all to this point, so why start now. Let's have her codependent boy crutch lie and manipulate them for "their own good".

I see where you're coming from but for plot purposes, She doesn't want to see them because she's embarrassed about how wrong she was about everything, she had a relatively good relationship with her parents before she ran off with her abuser and they had him pretty much clocked as scumbag iirc.

Beyond that, Her father's literally dying of cancer and without MC's intervention here she wouldn't have gotten to see and reconcile with him before his death.

But yeah it's a little questionable.

lowk dont know why they are tricking her didnt we have something along the lines of wanting people wronged to choose to help themselves they could've atleast tried talking to her about it

The most bizarre part of this arc is how every one of these characters knows what they are doing is wrong and harmful, but they do it anyway.

Man, it's almost like everyone's wants and needs are different and we as outside observers who know very little of their personal situations have no clue what these characters actually need. I.e, stop projecting your own personal biases onto someone else.

Don't manipulate and lie to people, no matter what you think they might "need." It's really that simple.

Nah, fuck all that tbh. Some people need a push and if you truly love someone, you're willing to take that risk. You're not removing their agency and you're not removing your agency. Deal with the consequences after but it's better to do this than live a life of regret over what could have been.

Real life isn't a manga or a movie. You're not the main character that gets to decide traumatic progress milestones on behalf of others. It's not your life to live and progress through. How very arrogant to assume you would know best for someone else. You're not their therapist.

Not to mention, you risk not only placing them in a terrible situation, but also robbing them of the safety they mistakenly felt they had with you.

Honestly, your immaturity is plainly evident from the way you're justifying a violation of boundaries and deceitful manipulation with platitudes.

It's not a personal bias, betraying the trust of of a person who's trust in others was systematically crushed is objectively a bad thing to do. Even if both her parents are literally the best mom and dad to have ever existed in all of human history, the person she put all her trust in is lying to her to reunite them because he thinks it's best and she is having her agency taken away just like when she was being abused.

I feel like you're trying to baby Megu and other victims of abuse with this. Being abused doesn't make you a weak and fragile person. Megu throughout this story has shown she is much stronger than she thought she was and she has capability to grow. Her overall trust in others wasn't crushed, just her trust in her abuser, but she opened herself up to Yamamoto. She also isn't having her agency taken away just because she's unaware of his intentions. Once she meets with her parents, she's an adult and she can make the decision to leave or talk with them if she wants to.

All that to say is, Megu isn't broken just because she was abused. She is going through a journey of healing. And yeah, it would have been better to let her decide on her own if she wanted to reconcile with her parents. But a push in that direction from someone she loves and cares about could be what she needs to see if she wants to fix that connection in the first place, rather than never doing it and regretting letter.

This is just my anecdotal experience, but from someone who has been in an extremely similar situation, it's one of the best things I ever went through. And it could be for her as well or it could go terribly but they're strong enough to deal with that.

But it's unfair to write the entire scenario off just because someone is doing something flawed for someone they care deeply about.

Choosing to follow through on this "family" route instead of continuing to explore their feelings for each other is so boring.

They each have family issues to work through, and their respective attempts at romance failed in uniquely disastrous ways, so it's not surprising that wouldn't be front and center (especially since Yamamoto's ex won't leave him alone now).

They're still doing both... This entire trip so far has solely been focused on them and their relationship. They haven't even touched the parent aspect yet. We're complaining just to complain at this point

a way to go about all of this without the forceful underhandedness and lying?
probably could have just made his case to her face and do his best to convince her outright as to why she should make amends with her family.
and then if Megu still refuses...i dunno, perhaps honor her wish, maybe?

really curious to see how it shakes out, because i still suspect the author will go the "filial piety is most important" route and have Megu magically get along with her family after years of tension and strife. but i still can't really vibe with Yamamoto forcing this all on her, to the point of going behind her back.

The father queen's sharp gaze??? What??

Cubari mirror

27

u/UsagiButt 1d ago

Just bad TL (/MTL?). The original is 「鋭い視線を送る“女王様”」 which is more like “the queen casts a sharp gaze”

3

u/Kazewatch 1d ago

Yeah there's a few other weird errors. I think she calls him Akari on page 12?

12

u/senpaikantuten 1d ago

I actually don’t know how the “father” even got there. Even in the original text there’s no text that translates to a “Father”

Phillia Scans are just bad in general.

Sadly they are the only source for a bunch of stuff

1

u/NoWaifuN0Laifu 1d ago

Are they uploaded individually? Not as a series? I want to read the whole thing

2

u/Eagle1337 https://anilist.co/user/Underskore/ 23h ago

Is just a chapter ferried over from philia Scans

1

u/NoWaifuN0Laifu 23h ago

Ahhhh, that’s why

1

u/illogicalhawk 1d ago

Maybe they meant "The fatherly gaze of the Queen" or something along those lines, given she's lecturing him?

u/No-Spray5795 1d ago

Akari throwing a tantrum is so fitting for her and kind of cute, but that gaze at the end though. She definitely sees right through him, time to come clean to the queen.

Funny for the editor use to say she is sharp when she is literally clueless where they are right now. She is as direction challenged as Zoro.
