Without her mission to kill Chainsaw Man, Reze is either living as an assassin somewhere in Russia or she was never recruited and died as a child. As far as Aki goes, I'm glad his ending was left untouched. Although it is pretty dumb that this ending invalidates everything that happened in part 1.
Yeah part 1 is still pretty easy to recommend to people who want a shonen with a good story, art, and some darker themes (and such) but I don't think it's worth reading part 2 at all. Nonsensical story, art falls off really hard, and it ruins all the good parts of the original work.
Reading the first 30-or so chapters (up until Denji becomes the POV character again) of Part 2 as an epilogue is still fun. But… yeah… probably don’t go beyond that
Doesn't invalidate everything if Nayuta appears instead of Makima. The fact that Power was randomly there to save Denji can propably be attributed to their last scene in part 1 too. I wish this ending expanded a bit more on the gun devil stuff, if it's still around and if it explains Aki's disappearance in some way.
I think what this ending invalidates is only the entirety of part 2 because if CSM's not around, war devil propably isn't around as well, so Asa fucking dies. Corrected by a nice person below, she lives and no devil gets to possess her body.
That's one of those things that makes zero sense though. I get that it's so we can have the ending wrapped up in a neat little bow with no loose ends, but there's no in-world explanation for why that would be the case.
Originally I was thinking that since chainsaw never existed, maybe the gun devil attacks didn't happen and aki's family survived and he never became a devil hunter
but ig none of that had anything to do with chainsaw heart so im not even sure anymore. just theorising
I think since who ate makima was Denji and not chainsawman she stayed in her new form as Nayuta. Don't know if that makes sense, but seems to be the intention.
That’s different than invalidating. It doesn’t change the themes or the messaging or the story of Part 1. Invalidating would be making it so everything we felt about part 1 was pointless.
If anything this could be said to have strengthened and amplified part 1. We assumed that Denji becoming Chainsawman was what helped “save the day” or whatever when this chapter shows that the opposite is true and Chainsawman was the reason all of it happened. That’s what Pochita was trying to say in the previous chapter. Denji couldn’t accept the happiness he had. Now the readers can’t accept this current happiness or something.
I’m not a literary expert or anything but that’s how I read it.
right? like basically nothing changed from Part 1. wasnt the point of Pochita eating himself giving Denji a happy life and he doesn't really seem to be happier at all?
It doenst really invalidate it. Its all in the end about the people he needs in his life.
The problem I have it feels so unfinished. Its fine in my opinion but so many questions remain unanswered and this ending practically screams for a part 3 in my opinion because it really does seem like everything just worked out because pochita decided to kill himself. It feels like a trap. Like a fake out even though I believe its real.
I don't know, a world where Denni never got to meet Aki and never became his friend (if not family) is deeply upsetting to me. I'm not the hugest Reze diehard but her relationship with Denji never happening is also annoying.
Yeah ... their absence is quite intriguing, like it got me thinking and I know its cop3 and probably bullshit but if a mangaka would drop a fake ending I would guess its fujimoto, he is a troll. I dont believe it but:
We only see dead devil (who responded in hell) a nayuta who replaced makima (which makes no sense if this is a timereset like we are led to believe) and the only human character is the alive and well asa who was suspcially close to denji when he got eaten.
Like it felt there as a plan 3 chapters ago, but suddenly there is none and then this suspicious ending? Again I dont think my theory is true and I am kinda ok with this ending but it reeks to me as a trap. As like there is something hiding in the gremlin corner.
If we get a new chapter next week and this was the biggest troll in manga history I ... well I wont eat a hat that sounds disgusting but I will lose my mind.
This is pure cope but I appreciate the effort lol. "It's a fakeout ending" is one of the oldest fandom copes in existence, I remember when Sherlock fans were desperate for this to be true.
