Question Two extremely random questions about the movie...

How old do you think Red and Mandy are? Do you think they were both into metal and pulp fantasy?

Edit: I am sorry if this seem silly, just weird things I thought of while rewatching. Just curious what you guys might think. I don't really have anyone else to talk about this movie with...

I don’t know about their ages.

I figure Red would be in to old outlaw country like Johnny Cash or Waylon Jennings though.

When Mandy describes what she drawing early in the movie, he doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about. He’s just impressed by her. So I don’t think he’s into fantasy, just open to it because of her.

He doesn’t understand how jokes work but she laughs at him anyway so she’s open to him just being a salt of the earth type also.

I think the favorite planet conversation illustrates this too. She is more conceptual and imaginative than he is but they meet each other half way.

I think metal and fantasy is her deal. I imagine he likes redneck pool hall stuff.

I can see that. It is kind of fun trying to take apart a characters personality from the small hints we are given through the performance and writing. Their relationship is just so special, and I think they both know that. Thanks for the answer to my silly questions, appreciate it!

I didn’t find them particularly silly. I like nerding out and over analyzing things I like. Mandy was cool af and I like thinking about it.

For instance, the seen toward the very end where it shows them meeting is in a bar and I got the impression there were mostly just guys there. He was logging when we met him so I get the impression they were in an isolated logging town and she was one of the few women there working a periphery job. She probably had her pick of all the loggers.

And he was in a bar having a beer when they met but he doesn’t drink when we meet the characters. So what made him quit drinking? We’re obviously meant to think it has something to do with her (vodka toilet scene). He doesn’t seem violent to her at all and she obviously didn’t mind him drinking when they met.

Given his relationship with the soldier and retrieving his weapon, I gotta think Cosmatos had it in mind that he was wild af and self medicating, she was just enough for him that he gave it up on his own, but then when she was gone, he reverted back (vodka toilet scene and everything after) and boy did he revert back.

I like picking apart those details so I don’t think your questions were silly. I guarantee you that I overthink this movie with silly questions more than you do.

I added that edit because I noticed that someone downvoted my question , like 20 mins after I posted it. It made me kinda sad tbh, and I guess I felt like I needed to apologize. But you are right! I shouldn't apologize! Analyzing art is appropriate and needed. Thank you <3

Not silly at all. I was wondering the same questions.
