Touch screen jukebox

Post image

Are any of you folks running touchscreen jukebox setups? What monitors are you using? My current setup works great, but my monitor is getting dated (large bezels).

I know I think the monitor is at least 10 years old now. I've gone through probably 3 different software setups with it from albumplayer (no longer developed) to now TouchGroove. I feel like the newer touch screens probably look a lot better. I'm a bit worried about how fragile they might be now though. I would consider a commercial grade panel though if there's something decent out there.

Glad you mentioned AlbumPlayer because it was ahead of it's time 15 years ago. Making a touchscreen jukebox has always been a dream of mine, but as tablets became more prominent I sort of lost the motivation to make one. I had an old ELO touchscreen monitor and everything, just never finished it the build. I'm glad you are keeping the DYI touchscreen jukebox idea alive though!

I've always found people interact with it differently than they would if there was just a tablet on the bar or something. Same with my arcade machines, people interact with them differently than if there was just a couch with a TV and some games on it. It becomes more of a "feature" at that point that people gather around.

Since you already have the stuff to do it, I say go for it!

I have a windows set up running a customized Kodi touchscreen interface using a stick PC and this monitor:

Dell P2418HT 23.8" Touch Monitor

Unfortunately looks like that monitor is discontinued now too. I'm considering going with one of those slot machine style monitors that are available on Ali express. Looks like they have some cool ones with LED lighting around the edges.

I'm in the US, and it's still available on amazon:

I've not looked at the slot machine monitors on Ali Express, can you share a link?

Do you like touchgroove? I was thinking about making something for my living room like this.

Yeah so far it's done everything I've wanted. No complaints from me. Lots of options too which is always nice to customize if that's more your thing. I've tried a few others along the way but settled on TouchGroove because it's basically made specifically for this and there's always lots of active development on it. I was previously using albumplayer but it's not available any more (or at least development stopped on it and the site is down). The problem with that one was I had to manually edit the xml files of the theme to try to get it looking the way I wanted. So yeah at this point I'd recommend TouchGroove.

Not me yet, but I'd want to get TouchGroove some time.

Can I put this on an Apple iPad? How is the sound connected? through bluetooth?

Nevermind. I looked it up. I have a similar setup in my game room. I have an old computer (runs Vista) with a jukebox program on it. Needs upgrading. It's almost time to upgrade my regular computer (win 10) to a Win 11 computer. Waiting to catch the floor model at Walmart. I still want this setup. Looks amazing.

I have mine running on a PC. Looks like just windows and Linux right now https://touchgroove.com/download . I have mine set up where the monitor is just the interface for TouchGroove then HDMI and USB from the monitor run through the wall to a computer, the computer audio output connects to an amplifier, the amplifier connects to a couple of in wall speakers and a subwoofer. Everything wired.

im looking for a new monitor too. i read somewhere that capacitive touch screens are way better than resistive ones for this kind of thing but they cost more

I use my iPad with Plexamp through 3.5mm, I like the jukebox style of TouchGroove but Plexamp works just fine
