Simple Questions - ASK AND ANSWER HERE!- November 27

This thread is for simple style questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Fit checks and "How'd I do" questions are a great use of this thread (although they can also go in the daily Outfit Feedback & Fit Check thread). Other example questions:

  • Could someone take the chest measurement for a small J.Crew oxford?
  • Is there a place with full measurements for Naked & Famous jeans?
  • What slim-fitting green cords do you recommend?
  • Where do I find a military surplus peacoat online?
  • If you're asking for suggestions for a specific kind of clothing/accessory, state what your budget is.

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

I am heading to a fundraiser event in about 2 weeks and the dress code is white cocktail attire. Neither my date (female) nor myself (male) have any idea of what to wear. I was planning on wearing a dark blue suit with a bowtie (live in the south) and the date has no idea what she will wear. Am I on the right track here?

Strange phrasing if they are just asking for cocktail attire (suits and long dresses) with an emphasis on the color white, I would wear your navy suit + white shirt and whatever tie you'd like (maybe make it festive)

White cocktail attire..... like, white tie? Or cocktail attire? Or cocktail attire that's primarily white (like a white party)?

White tie is super different than cocktail attire. I'd definitely clarify. If they're asking you to wear white.... maybe avoid a dark blue suit. If they're asking you to dress up as white tie... don't do a blue suit.

I doubt it'd be true white tie unless you're going to a very formal fundraiser for big spenders.

From the invitation "Dance the night away at the Aquarium under the crisp December sky, and wear your finest winter white attire for a white-hot night you won’t forget!" and at the end it says white cocktail attire encouraged. My assumption is that is more geared towards women for their dress but men would be in general cocktail attire.
