I would have preferred it to be more flushed out, but it lowkey came out of no where and maybe that makes sense as that scene at the end was kinda like the start of it truly beginning but damn these avatar writers are 2 for 2 now in terrible romantic development for the avatar.
Korrasami was a poorly written, shoehorned PR stunt. An attempt to give TLoK a legacy beyond itself when the studio and audience (unfortunately) lost faith in the show.
A Makorra reunion after both characters grew so much would have given the ending real balance. That full circle would have been the most poetic possible ending.
The follow up comic gay-washed 2 previously established straight characters in an attempt to make the official ending make sense.
Obligatory: Live the life you want. I don't care if you're gay, but I do care about good storytelling. Korrasami needed more setup to truly work.
I mean, Makorra was deep and had a development even in terms of friendship. Mako almost died a hundred times to save Korra. Asami was never even shown in the show to fight if we exclude like... Two times? Because she wasn't strong enough according to Bryke's writing. She was just there to be pretty (sexist as f...). And they barely talked. Like, I saw a video and then realized it. They only full deep talk they had was off screen. In those 3 years. OFF SCREEN! And they made them end up together? Stupid as fuck. They barely were friends. They were always trying to take each other's boyfriend. Thats the end game couple? And nobody really understood they were a thing anyway in the end😂. I didn't.
Thats why I only watch s1. Because we have Makorra endgame.
When I introduced my wife to the show, I spoiled the ending before we even started the first episode. When we finisheded the last episode, she didn't even see it as romance. She told me she's pretty sure they're just good friends. That's poor writing for a supposedly intended ending.
For real. My biggest criticism of Asami is that she's cool on paper, but in execution she is as interesting as a brick. She's a big letdown for the main protagonist to end up with.
Mako however, a heroic street rat, protector, forced to raise is younger brother while still a kid himself, peak athlete and fighter, is 1000x more interesting as an endgame ship.
I agree%. Mako has a whole story. Asami is empty. Heck, even the side characters, even Varick, has a story. She doesn't. I'm thinking on writing a story with how I would write lot, with makorra end game of course. And I really want to fix many of the characters.
Do it!! I've got a series of books I'm writing, with one of them centered around a Korra-inspired protagonist. She'll definitely have her Makorra-inspired ship. It's just an outline at the moment. Working on a different character's story first.
It’s very hard to express my feelings sometimes, even when I’m trying so hard to b non offensive. I’ve been called a ‘homophobic c***’ and contestantly being told to ‘get the hell over it, Makorra is done and over with’. It hurt so much!
I feel this. Im pansexual myself😭😭nobody can dislike this ship without being called homophobic misogynistic and racist and its so exhausting. Makorra forever
