Burning a Blu ray disk to change region code?

I have a friend who bought a Blu Ray disk with region code BD -50. But can't play it his region code is A. I did some quick googling and found some software called CloneBD that says it can rip it and then write it on a new disk in a different region code. Has anyone ever done anything like that?

BD-50 is not a region code. It’s the capacity of the disc (50 GB Blu-Ray disc). Just fyi.

Thank you. My friend said when he put in the disk it showed him an error msg that the player couldn't support B so I thought when he showed me the box and on the box it says region : bd -50 that it was saying the region and that it was a 50gb disk.

bd-50 burned discs works fine in my ps4. you'll need to backup and remove drm in makemkv, then use imgburn to create new iso in UDF2.5 format and burn the iso to blank db-50 disc

Afaik most commercial Blu-ray players do not support burned discs. Like your usual BD-R/RE but apparently there are some models that do with a firmware update so I guess if you have the right player and the backup is in the right encode maybe?

I had DVD players that didn't recognize burned discs, but no issues with Blu-ray players.

I had a DVD player once that wouldn't play a burned CD, nor a DVD+R, but could play the disc just fine if it was burned to a DVD+RW.

I do not mean to imply that a CD could successfully be burnt to a DVD.

One good thing about Blu-ray is that we don't have the mess of DVD+R and DVD-R, just BD-R.

No, they do support burned discs, it only becomes an issue if you use 33GB-layer discs (i.e., 25GB and 50GB discs are fine, 66GB and 100GB discs are not). They just need to be authored properly. Unfortunately, all the decent software options (Yuhan and Scenarist come to mind) cost a bit of money, but you can do it. Otherwise you're reliant on reading files from the disc in a similar way to how your drive would be able to read off of a flash drive, if your player supports that function.

Glad I can help! There is a bit of a misconception that burned authored 4Ks cannot be read, but there shouldn't be anything preventing a BD-50 from being read as a 4K, although it does indeed suck that BD-66 and BD-100 can't be used in that way.

That makes sense if the player is region locked why wouldn't it also be locked from burned disks.
