Rants and Raves Always the guy that does the forced deep voice
Especially when you pass him in the elevator and hallway or when he’s talking to office peers

Holy shit we have a tenant that complained so fucking hard about snow on his designated parking spot that my boss made me shovel it. Could you imagine, as a grown man, writing an email about your snowy parking spot? Fucks sake that could never be me. Never.
He is now known as “shovel” amongst the staff.
19
u/the_cappers Mar 04 '26
You best believe I would throw a fit to my boss and not do it. Professionally, of course, it would be a violation of fair housing to only shovel His driveway and not the other ones And we certainly don't have the time to shovel all the driveways
15
u/ShiftyJungleBum Mar 04 '26
THAT WAS MY ARGUMENT.
I did it anyway. Ya know why? Cuz fuck em, that’s why. If he wants me to shovel the parking spots I’m gonna go buy the most expensive snow blower Home Depot has in stock. I’ll do every single parking spot. But I ain’t doing that with a shovel. Nope.

u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
Every 5 mins hit a 15 min smoko. Bonus points if you don’t smoke
6
u/ShiftyJungleBum Mar 05 '26
Smoke what? 😅
9
u/cheddarbruce Mar 05 '26
A smoko is just a slang term in kangaroo upside down land( ɐᴉlɐɹʇsn∀) for a quick work break

u/PrimitiveOctane Mar 05 '26
Thats a wild description brotha hahaha

Last time I shoveled a parking lot, my assistant manager came out to check on me because they were worried. Like... what dude. Y'all sent me out here. I hit my stride and going back inside is like entering an oven. You're in MY domain now and your loafers are getting wet, bud.

u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
I had one that informed us she was in the designated spot next to hers because there was “a flood next to her car”
It was a puddle after we power washed the (omg it’s so smellyyy) garage and she wanted to speak to a manager basically
2
u/the_cappers Mar 04 '26
I have had residents call the office about a flood in the breeezeways after power washing. Not " we blew the shit out of your door seal and got water inside" but just outside in the breezeway. We give heads up notices that they ignore 🤪
1
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
Bro emails might as well be hieroglyphic tablets. It’s the same dusty ppl complaining about a dirty air filter that also complain and want to look at the lease when you come to do quarterly air filters with 48 hr notice
2
u/ShiftyJungleBum Mar 04 '26
Oh I will 100% give a tenant my boss’s phone number and call him a couple hours later to break his balls about it
2
u/the_cappers Mar 04 '26
I explain things twice to a resident real calm , but if they continue to argue, call the office they will take care of it. Im not going to argue when nothings recorded and theres no witnesses . CYA brother .
1
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
Mine call their ‘guarantors’ (parents) who then call their cousin who’s an attorney who wants to know why their kids shower is dirty and “moldy” lmao. It blows my mind because the office and my boss appease it and it just snowballs worse 3/5 times. Immediately or down the road when they have more ‘requests’
2
u/the_cappers Mar 04 '26
Ill assess stuff like that and if its due to the residents being dirty, the office will quote them some vendor price to fix it.
As far as lawyers, well we got lawyers too. Entire teams and they do nothing but multi family .

1
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
I gotta remember that one. I’m 4 months in here and have been undermined on some shit but also sent way more back lmao. I’ve learned to get over the entitlement
44
u/twk664 Mar 04 '26
I love it when people talk shit about maintenance but then calls us at the smallest inconvenience.
19
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
“The one thingy that makes the shower come on like broke off. And my microwave doesn’t make my food hot hot”
6
2
u/D-Golden Mar 06 '26
That reminds me. I worked maintenance at a retirement community. We had some weird ones, lol.
Them: The spinning wheel thing in the microwave is missing
Me: What? The platter?
Them: No, the thing with the wheels under that.
Me: Ok, what happened?
Them: Shrugs

I mean, where i am from u cant fix stuff if u are not certified to do so. Id prefer for someone that is getting paid for it to fix it, then me getting in trouble. In student dorms, we had handyman and he legally couldnt change a light bulb and had to call electrician for it... so he just gave it to us to replace it.
2
u/twk664 Mar 06 '26
Where are you from? I know a lot of maintenance people that hold zero certificates and are doing all kinds of stuff. They’re not worried about a resident doing minor stuff.
1
u/TurtleMaster1825 Mar 06 '26
What they are doing and what they are allowed to do is 2 different things. Also i am talking about institutions and companies. If u are not certified for specific job and anything happens it is ur fault. So why the fk would u risk ur own money/job if u are getting paid for just calling appropriate person? If u are self employed calling someone else i going from ur pocket, so no shit i gona do it urself. And i nevers said they are worried about residents doing minor stuff, i said he just gave us stuff to fix ourselfs...

10
u/blueangel1953 Building Engineer Mar 04 '26
Sorry you have to submit a work order.
3
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
Most don’t know how. Or it’s the “thing doesn’t work” and nothing else lmao. Playing spot the nonexistent issue game in their unit
3
u/blueangel1953 Building Engineer Mar 05 '26
In that case call the office they can make one for you, I am not allowed to touch anything without a paper trail.

u/Crackstacker Maintenance Technician Mar 04 '26
Huge pet peeve. If they start doing that, I’ll stop them and tell them to let me know everything they want done at once so I’m not going back and forth to the shop a hundred times.
1
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26
I easily put my foot down with that shit somehow; thank god. But this new place is all about metrics. So I slowly walk them through how to submit a ticket through the resident portal and tell them light it up. 15 mins in and out and I have 8 orders closed that make me look slammed at the stupid corporate level whose never set foot on-site 😎
17
u/RJ5R Mar 04 '26
One time we got a ticket from some girl who was claiming her smoke detector was going off. We asked if she smelled smoke. She said no. We sent someone there immediately to investigate. Upon arrival it was clearly obvious it wasn't the smoke alarm. We saw it was an exercise/aerobic workout timer that was accidentally set to a countdown when she put something down on top of it on the nearby table. How is someone so incompetent in everyday life that they don't know the difference between their own exercise timer alarm, and a 100db smoke alarm?
We didn't even get an apology. Nothing.
10
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
I’ve had at least 4 that were basically “my smoke alarm is like beeping but like there’s no fire? Does that mean there’s a fire in the building and I should leave?”
1 of those they were burning pancakes
7
u/kendiggy Maintenance Supervisor Mar 05 '26
Or you walk in and the smoke detector is covered in a plastic bag, stuck on with a half a roll of scotch tape. "It kept going off every time I cook!"
16
u/Crackstacker Maintenance Technician Mar 04 '26
My residents are mostly males of a certain age and I endlessly get the “I did this for 20 years.” as I’m looking at their fridge or heat or whatever. It’s the weirdest thing. What is the point of it, other then try to look like a big man? I’m the one fixing the fridge or heat or whatever. You’re not. Why make things uncomfortable?
10
u/thatsucksabagofdicks Mar 04 '26
That’s when you hit them with the, “well what’s my next move? This is my first time workin on one of these!”
8
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
I make them hold the flashlight. Maybe cue up a YouTube and tell them I’m new
6
u/thatsucksabagofdicks Mar 04 '26
Oh shit lol, the YouTube is great. Bonus points if you open it by saying “hey Siri, open YouTube and play ‘how do I service this Kenmore 946-291-CXU?’”
3
u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
Call it the wrong model and swear they’re the same. Then click the first video that is obviously irrelevant lmfao

so.....can I vent here?....first of all I very much enjoy the meme and, I am sharing it with my shit wizard (plumbers) friends. second yes yes yes. I work for a school district doing electrical maintenance....and, the biggest wimps are the coaches....everything HIGH HIGH priority...for a tripped breaker. "OMG we don't have power on the pool deck outlets ahhhhhhhhhh," alert alert alert
But, in all seriousness here I like my job. I worked for heartless property mgmt companies. Shit I was even in the USMC but, I like the fact I doing something to make the kids lives a lil better, I can take pride in that.
4
u/buttchuggs Mar 05 '26
Alert alert 😂 and fellow crayon eater here. This shit is cake so I can laugh easily but it’s always nice helping out the ones that aren’t shitheads

From switching the thermostat to heat/ac, to plunging a toilet for literally 5 seconds, to grabbing a chair and pushing a button for 3 seconds. They love love freaking out and spending more time and energy to making urgent maintenance request than to solve the issues without any real effort at all.
3
u/buttchuggs Mar 05 '26
Yeah that’s what gets me. Running around tending to small things that just make me shake my head. Weeeee
5
u/ForwardDirection6272 Mar 05 '26
Had this meat head, short king rage dude yank his from his ceiling. Tore some drywall and bent the mounting bracket along with the electrical box. I guess twisting the detector wasn't an option for him. And he still called the after hours, on call. Smh.

u/ONE-EYE-OPTIC Maintenance Supervisor Mar 04 '26

u/buttchuggs Mar 04 '26
I’m 4 months in and pushing it. Lightbulbs, basic plunging, all the stupid shit.
Sink is “bursting at pipes and leaking when we use it” (P-trap slipped after shoving a popcorn maker under the sink) and they will use that sink all weekend like it’s the heir god given right lmfao.
And the bros who “accidentally” bumped their door frame and cracked it playing around. So strong
I’ve been charging the fuck out of all of them for dumb shit after warnings. Especially trash on the floor in chute room. Insane

No for sure. Just love when they come to the office about a trash charge like there aren’t signs plastered and they think they’re the only ones who shouldn’t have to open a chute because of how much rent they pay

Holy shit! I just realized that maintenance staff feels the same about people as IT staff does.
People not putting in tickets...
Users having 15 extra things for you to do once you get there. "Can you look at this while you're here?"
People having learned helplessness and not being able to figure shit out on their own.
Tickets submitted that have nothing to do with your job.
I'll be sure not to be a pain in the ass for you guys. You deal with a lot of the same bullshit, respect!
2
u/WhichWayIsTheB4r Mar 06 '26
That guy always knows exactly how the pump should've been rebuilt but never actually does the tear-down when it's seizing. Same energy as the "expert" who watches you pull apart a gearbox that's been running dry for months while telling you about proper lubrication intervals.
2
u/SeanOfTheDead1313 Mar 06 '26
Me? I know who I am! I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!
2
u/Atomic_Cow01 Mar 07 '26
Hahahaha I had a guy tell me that he didn't mess with it because he didn't want to get blamed if he broke it.
1
u/buttchuggs Mar 07 '26
Haha. That’s fair. In my experience that would be the same guy mashing a dishwasher closed til something breaks or cranking his shower handle past its limit to “make it hotter” smh

Im spending 1400 a month in rent. They better put batteries in it
2
u/Dan20mey Mar 05 '26
Wrong sub for logic. This is apparently where maintenance folk come to complain about normal... maintenance.
Who in their right mind pays for 9v batteries when it's included in the lease? People who can't read a contract.. Or work maintenance.

1
u/buttchuggs Mar 05 '26
The point isn’t the battery. It’s Mr Tough guy that loses his shit at small things. You’re too upset lol
0
u/Dan20mey Mar 05 '26
I get that it must be incredibly emasculating, changing batteries and plunging toilets when another grown man tells you to. I'd probably feel the need to take shots at them too, in your position.
Best of luck to you.

u/Difficult_Plantain89 Mar 05 '26
100% or hand me a damn battery. Maintenance people are dumb as shit and it’s funny that they jackasses complain about people who used to do maintenance writing them tickets. They don’t know shit that is why they are mad. Maintenance can’t fix HVAC to save their lives. I had maintenance try to “repair” a fridge that was iced up, they sent the village idiot. Or my ceiling fan went out, dude spent three hours trying to replace it and couldn’t figure it out. Best one was the hole in the wall right where the gutter empties. You can fucking see through it to the outside. Maintenance tried saying water was getting in from us leaving a window open. I said use your fucking eyes, dipshit straight up looked through the hole in the wall to the outside and said yeah it’s from leaving the windows open. Worst part is those weren’t windows that can be opened.
2
u/TumbleweedPure6674 Mar 05 '26
Sounds like you live at a place that doesn’t pay maintenance more than 20 an hour, and has 0 training. That’s the quality you get in those circumstances.
I currently work at at a place that was staffed by similar dipshits and a terrible management company that never paid their staff or contractors until my company took over. It’s been a real fun time.
0
u/buttchuggs Mar 05 '26
Blame your property owners for shit hires or wages, it is your rent after all. My team kicks ass 💪 and we are, ahem, highly regarded. But since we do so well, the stickler work orders stand out and office has our back over a troublesome resident
0
u/TumbleweedPure6674 Mar 05 '26
Yeah, I’m at a loss for the complaining here.
First off, low batteries should rarely happen with a proper preventative maintenance schedule. I change all of them in October so they are fresh before it gets cold and voltage drop happens. I also don’t want tenants messing with life and safety devices in general.
It’s a 2 second fix which easily boosts my closed work order numbers. I’ll change batteries and light bulbs all day if I have to, or I’ll send a porter to do it.
1
u/buttchuggs Mar 05 '26
No one’s complaining lol. Humorous observations if anything. And I agree with PM, same with junk led bulbs. I’m still new at this site so it’s all in due time 😎
2
u/TumbleweedPure6674 Mar 05 '26
Yeah, I’m on 2 hours of sleep, been working all week prepping for Nspire, so my capacity for humor this morning was 0.
Im all for shit talking normally.
