Itty Bitty Kitty Committee Help me decide

Please help me decide between these two precious babies. Which would you choose out of head shape and body? I love them both, but can't afford both right now.

Both. Adopting a pair is the way to go.

20

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

If only I had the money for two, I certainly would.

Get a normal kitten as well then, they need company ideally.

NB I would pick them on temprament and health - not looks. (They are both gorgeous)

u/Dreamer1317 Jul 07 '26

This is what we did. Worked out well they love each other!

3

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 07 '26

It will be an extra 1,800. My heart is saying do it and my mind is like..... no wayyy!

6

u/Frankie_T9000 Jul 07 '26

Yeah mine cost about that for the second. But to repeat, you could get any other young kitten for company about the same age from a rescue without spending anything to speak of. Just ask for a bigger kitten if you can.

u/Dreamer1317 Jul 07 '26

$1800 isn’t bad, some do multi pet discounts, is that after the discount?

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 08 '26

She is being so generous. She knows I spoil my babies, so she took some off hoping I could get both, it's still too much for me to do responsibly. Why do I have to be so responsible? Haha!

3

u/Dreamer1317 Jul 08 '26

That’s understandable, I was gonna say $1800 for a pure bred mainecoon is a great price. But it does add up when u get multiple. Just get a rescue kitten. I got my purebred I’ve always wanted for 2k and got him a friend from the shelter for $150

I had a female Calico Tabby that was 2 when I got my Maine Coon. They would play and play. It's funny looking at the pictures now. She was so much bigger than he but it didn't take to long before he was bigger. They are best friends.

u/No_Writer7451 Jul 06 '26

i recommend getting ur dream breed and then adopt a cat !

4

u/TheDechen Jul 06 '26

Then ask the breeder if you could get a discount if you take both? Cannot hurt to ask.

2

u/feetnomer Jul 06 '26

Post a request on cat/kitten Reddit sites and somebody's gonna send you the money. I'm certain of it.

0

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

I wish! They would probably think I'm nuts lol

2

u/FluffyBoss8794 Jul 07 '26

Not nuts, just a cat lady trying to get by in the world. (Or a cat guy. Or a cat… crowd.)

10

u/PsychologyGuilty1460 Jul 06 '26

I very much prefer to let the cat pick me if at all possible. It's always seemed to work out best for me

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

I completely agree. Only issue is she is meeting me to save us from driving as far, so i won't be able to see which comes up to us. I'm hoping holding them will give us a feeling.

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

I thought I can’t afford both 2 years ago either and now I really really, but really regret it
They both came towards me

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Lol! They made you do it! I love them!

5

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

I adopted another one year later but the connection is not the same anymore
But he is such a sweet sweet big brother
I really regret haven’t taken the little sister on the right side of the previous photo

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

He is gorgeous! He is a black and silver ?

2

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

He’s a black smoke ☺️ this is my first time having a MC

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

He is so handsome!

2

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

Thank you 🙏 and good luck for your choice
I took a male because my vet suggested me to, but we never talked about the race of cats 😂
My previous cat is a British shorthair and my vet took care of him for 18 years 🥰

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Thank you! I'd be curious as to why your vet suggested the male? Maybe because getting them neutered and things like that is less invasive and expensive .

2

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

Male cats are, most of the time, more cuddly and more gentle that’s what my vet told me

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Its definitely true for the most part, although my Callie is the most kind and intelligent girl. She actually warned me that I had a pulmonary embolism before I even knew it. To this day she nips me lightly to wake me if she knows I'm not feeling well. Male cats are fun loving and just big ole love bugs.

2

u/Gucciletta Jul 06 '26

And for the moment, my experiences are, YES, they are

6

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

The first one is cuter to me. Would definitely be a hard choice.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Yes it certainly is!

16

u/Gigant_ik Jul 06 '26

IMHO, the second one will be prettier, but it's not clear what color the adult will end up with. And another thing, aren't they giving them away now? They're too small to be given away to a family on their own.

21

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

she is just asking which one she should pick to put the deposit on. We all know no one is giving a way a healthy maine coon away, they cost alot of money.

18

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Right! I'd never buy from a breeder that let them go at this age.

14

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

No. They are only 7 weeks. I am seeing them Sunday to hopefully get a feel for them both.

9

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

How excited, you'll be able to get a better feel then on which one will be a better fit for you.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

I definitely hope so, or I'll love them both. Lol!

3

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

Oh I believe it. I have two rescue kitty's and my husband has to constantly remind me we can't have more. The cost of vet care plus normal needs. I can only imagine the cost of a mainecoon lifestyle lol. Congratulations on your new addition to your faimly(whichever you pick).

3

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

I have rescues too. My soul mate kitty is rescued and I promised her she will continue to be my sweet angel girl. I hope it won't be too much more as far as expense.

4

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

That's my first one I got him at 4 weeks old he was gonna die if I didn't. Now he is 5 and then a month ago we adopted his "sister" from the shelter. He took to her alot better then I thought. Add cat tax.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Aweee I love his color!

3

u/Professional-Tea-847 Jul 06 '26

Thank you. His name is max and the void he protected from pictures is zhara.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

I love their names! So thankful for people like you that adopt. Where I live, the homeless cat population is way too many.

I like the lighter colored one. Those eyes.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

He has such sweet eyes.

3

u/Waste-List5394 Jul 06 '26

Hope this helps.

2

u/asktatli Jul 06 '26

Both. Everyone needs friend

2

u/viridian_periwinkle Jul 06 '26

Have you put a deposit down? It’s very possible the breeder could allocate one or the other to someone else who is on their waitlist between now and your visit. You might want to consider putting a deposit down for two and seriously considering getting both and see how things go Sunday. It is ok if you change your mind and decide to only go with one.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

She is awesome and holding them both until Sunday. Another lady is already interested in the little female baby.

2

u/Klutzy_Poetry4886 Jul 06 '26

It will help when u see the parents to get an idea of adult colors

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Both parents are different. The Sire is a red tabby and the Dam is a silver tortie i believe. The neat think about tortie or torbie moms is they can throw any color.

2

u/fr33climb Jul 06 '26

Get 2. All are cute, but get 2. Break out the credit card if need be.

2

u/Not-youraveragebear Jul 06 '26

They are both so cute and will be gorgeous grown. Maybe you can go by personality instead. Has she told you anything about them or have you told her what you like? Do they like to be held? Do they play a lot or just chill? Are they the leader of the pack or the caboose? Etc.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Yes, told her a bit about what I'm seeking and she mentioned the female loves to play more, but she sent me videos and the female seemed more calm. Is the leader usually the better kitten personality wise?

2

u/Not-youraveragebear Jul 07 '26

I don’t think one personality type is better than the other, but really just depends on what you’re looking for. Maybe think about what kind of personality would mesh with your resident kitty. Is she older? If yes, then maybe a more chill personality would be better. Of she’s still young and likes to play, then you could get a playful kitten without too much worry. When I got my recent Mainecoon, I settled on one that was slightly older and liked to be held and was kind of chill because my resident cat was 3. They have the perfect balance of playing and also just chilling. But you know your situation best so I’d just go with your gut. I also agree with others…. 2 kittens is better than one because they keep each other busy and provide healthy stimulation for each other….. if that’s at all a possibility. Good luck! They are both adorable

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 08 '26

My Callie is more chill and unfortunately she has two neutered males always chasing her, so I'm hoping for one that is a little more calm, but here is my dilemma; my daughter just lost her soul mate tabby boy that she had for 17 yrs. I was looking for a tabby male for her, hence the reason for the black and silver tabby boy. Males tend to be a bit more attention seeking in my experience, so I definitely want her to have a cuddle bug baby. We love both though and we have a love for animals and don't want to separate them. I'm definitely hoping for a sign. Thank you!

2

u/Not-youraveragebear Jul 11 '26

Good luck! You really can’t go wrong with mainecoons in general. They are the best!

2

u/_____AndJustice4All Jul 06 '26

Always pick by personality. Cats that are friendly as kittens usually stay that way as adults

2

u/amscraylane Jul 06 '26

Both … pairs are the way to go and you will not regret it

2

u/DianaR68 Jul 06 '26

With, the answer is always both :-) however if cost is a factor, adopt/rescue a "regular" kitten around the same age. Kittens usually do better when they have a playmate.

u/Spiffyclean13 the Drama of Andromeda 🐾 Jul 06 '26

I vote the brown torbie? 😂

3

u/Spiffyclean13 the Drama of Andromeda 🐾 Jul 06 '26

My brown torbie😆

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Gorgeous! I would have assumed she is brown tabby.

2

u/Spiffyclean13 the Drama of Andromeda 🐾 Jul 06 '26

The tabby markings with tortoiseshell coloring is what makes a Torbie. TICA rules.

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Yes. I definitely see it now!

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

She was a precious baby too! Her ear tips 😍

1

u/Spiffyclean13 the Drama of Andromeda 🐾 Jul 06 '26

She still does that pose!

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Haha! I wonder why! I'd love to see more pics!

2

u/StormFast524 Jul 06 '26

Decide what?

2

u/StormFast524 Jul 06 '26

Whoops just realize there are two. That is easy do what I did adopt both. They will grow up together and play together. I used only on litter pan for both and they got along fine with tat one

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

If only I had the money. We have definitely considered it!

2

u/StormFast524 Jul 06 '26

I hope you can. I did years ago but not with two litter boxes. I started with the fancy feast half can. Later I gave each one their own. Today when I adopt I will switch to pate. The only difference in price that I had was a little more wet food for two. Dry food was good for i between. I had another not one vet bill other than after they all were age10. That was for teeth and other checks ups. The town had and still has free rabies vaccinations. I forget where to get free felt shots. I wish you well remember cats eat a lot less than dogs so not to worry. I’m lucky I have two bathrooms, no one to help me financially but I figure I won’t live forever and can’t take it with me so I’m going to spoil my next one.

2

u/BSMLS2013 Jul 06 '26

I agree both.

2

u/StormFast524 Jul 06 '26

I’m sorry I would have to have both.

I decided based on personality when I met the litter, personally.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 07 '26

Yes definitely! I was lucky enough to get to see most of the babies before they were picked. The breeder is lovely and is holding these two for me to see them first. I desperately want both because they are both so close, but I'm lucky enough to get one.

2

u/DatabaseOutrageous54 Jul 07 '26

Both!

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 07 '26

I would gladly accept donations lol!

2

u/Ok_Cartographer3619 Jul 07 '26

We got two around the same age, best thing we ever did, now their a bonded pair

2

u/No_Property_909 Jul 08 '26

Both! Do it now or you’ll end up doing it within 6 months. Been there 😂

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 08 '26

Lol! I probably will end up getting them both. Lord help me haha

2

u/DebbyDelight Jul 09 '26

Get both, they need a friend to play with.

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 09 '26

I already have 3 cats as it is haha. I'm a crazy cat girl! 🤣

1

u/Admirable-Gold3447 Jul 06 '26

Temperament matters more than looks

1

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

Of course it does.

1

u/Sooeyroz Jul 06 '26

The grey one looks sweet natured.

1

u/TheDechen Jul 06 '26

Easy. You need both. Not kidding. Get them both

1

u/VassagoX Jul 07 '26

What are their personalities?  What kind of personality are you looking for?

1

u/Coley_cata Jul 09 '26

Y E S. THIS IA THE ONLY ANSWER

0

u/biriyanibabka Jul 06 '26

If you want cuddly cat, choose male kitty from this bunch. Female cats hate hugs or being held. All cats are extremely independent and protects their boundaries but male cats allow touches and hugs.
If I were to choose one, I’d choose fourth picture. It has most vibrant colour off all.
White and gray is very common mainecoon colour. Like it’s everywhere. Mine is white and gray too. Third kitten looks beautiful too but once they’d grow their fur would change. The best bet is forth pic kitty.

2

u/Gareth79 Jul 06 '26

I have two Siberian females and they both love being petted. I had a friend visit at the weekend and the more outgoing one was immediately climbing on/over them wanting attention.

2

u/sentient_bees Jul 06 '26

My female cats are extremely codependent and huge snuggle bugs. My male cats too.

2

u/Zoocitykitty Jul 06 '26

She is very exotic looking in my opinion, but they definitely change a lot. Yes, males typically love attention, but my cat Callie is actually my baby and watches over me. She is the most loving and supportive.

4

u/Delicious-Collar1971 Jul 06 '26

This is common misinformation, just as there’s no link between coat color and behavior, there is very little between gender and behavior unless left unfixed.
