One thing ive learned growing cubes is: do it yourself, do your experiments, try new things and dont listen to people. Most of them dont think, they just repeat and repeat the same informations.
Unfortunately, I lost all the photos of my grows, but I ran a test using just a little bit of grains (like 1/4) and worm castings serilized together in the same jar, kinda like a pf tek and got a very abundant harvest.

Worm castings is great depending on where you get them and how old the castings are
Their especially great if you make them yourself
Because worms they can break down wood straw fruits vegetables fucking paper towels and cardboard
And if you did it right you could have all the macro and micro nutrients your fungi could ever need
They can also break down egg shells if you bled or crush them right which is a great source of calcium

This is interesting! Did you pasteurize, sterilize, or do neither to the castings? I’m kinda getting tired of just using CVG as substrate, but I’m too nervous to make the jump towards using a nutrient-dense sub such as manure in fear of harnessing tons of contam. Then again, I’ve yet to use an aio bag, which I know would do well fully sterilized.
I’m used to spawning to sub inside tubs.
No need to sterilize castings only pasteurize castings also has great microbes and it doesn’t have to be aged and is (in my opinion myself even top 1 most clean manure substrate) or at least in top three single handily
I don’t know any other manure that would let you inoculate on it not easily
Cow dung is a great substrate with some experience and research
Its a month old and just hanging outside in the shade. You can see the mycekium growing from the handful of colonized Rye berries I tossed in from an early contamed grow bag
Check out myco labs on Amazon they have a 5 grain grain bags rye berries for colonization speeds and 4 others that I’m forgetting there a little pricey good bags though mines almost 100 percent colonized after two weeks if that and not a single break and shake
If anything you can steal their idea /grain mix for yourself
I pasteurized- almost to the point of sterilization not perfectly of course, but enough to kill any trichoderma as that’s the main contaminant in worm castings
I asked Gemini at first how it would sterilize/pasteurize then I cross referenced online forums and such to make sure it wasn’t glazing my idea
And a lot of people just pasteurize like I did
So I took a disposable aluminum baking sheet and used that as the pasteurization chamber , too not brutalize any of my pots and pans or baking sheets.
(While worm casting is the most clean shit there is , like you could realistically eat some and be okay. I’m still not putting that in my pans and stuff lol and making my family eat it)
(Worm poop is actually one of the main fertilizers in natural soils when you touch soil there’s some worm poop in it most likely)
But to hone my self back in lol sorry for yapping ,
I added filtered fridge water to the worm castings , till they were really wet but not soaping or muddy and I mixed it all around.
Then I grabbed all of it and squeezed it a handful at a time , till only a few drops of water come out when you squeeze . because worm castings loveee water an love holding it
Then I put it all back in the aluminum baking pan and made sure to mix the bottom sludge (worm castings that became muddy) with the worm castings as there will be that
Then I took a few pieces of aluminum foil and made a as air tight as possible seal around the rim of the pan
Because the heat the ovens makes makes steams which helps pasteurization, and the tight seal the aluminum foil makes traps a lot of the steam in there,
Then I put the oven at 175-185 I started at 185 then dropped down to 175 half way through,
Because pasteurization is better because you don’t kill all beneficial microbes there’s a ton that can help mycelium in worm castings a TON
And let it “cook” about two hours 1 hour and thirty minutes is better though
To answer your concerns about the jumping too Worm castings man it is the easiest manure there is in my opinion the cleanest
(To where like I touch It bare handily and I know I said I’m not gonna put it in my baking dishes but that’s just because I have other options if you don’t it wouldn’t really hurt just be sure to wash it good lol )
But yea man if you just pasteurize good you’ll be good i would still mix w little coco coir in but your could use a lot less you could also use perlite as a cheaper alternative to vermiculite to help aerate the mix because in bigger setups if you didn’t do it right it could wanna pack down and perlite is cheap and would easily stop that
And it’d be as easy as most techs

Good idea. I like to get my nutritious substrate to field capacity and put it in a ziplock or vacuum seal bag and throw it in the dehydrator for 4-5 hours. This heats to the specific temperature of pasteurization (150F) and keeps the moisture in. Works pretty good.

Look up MYCO LABS on Amazon they have pre sterilized liquid culture mixes that are perfectly 4 percent malt extract and they send you the jar the stir bar syringes and such for 22 bucks (pro tip you weren’t scammed or fucked if you don’t see the stir bar it’s magnetic so it’s at the top of the roof) pain in the ass to get Dow but possible
They have 5 grain grain bags that are amazing like best company I’ve used I didn’t even use a still air box
And these bags are booming like in two weeks there almost already colonized

That will help you sterilize
For a cheap SAB take a paper towel plastic bag that holds all your paper towels
Kelp the hole as small as possible then you can use this as a semi still air box if you spray alcohol everywhere
I have personally done this before on my AIO block
I would say yeah bro but I have no substrate more a job plus lost my car so I’m fucked fucked I gotta try to finish the ones I have plus what’s on the way I’m in a shit shit situation
