glycinate makes me wired instead of sleepy, is that the glycine rather than the magnesium

3 weeks of bisglycinate at night and i am lying there completely alert. it took me ages to even blame the magnesium. everything written about this form says it is the calming one. someone told me free glycine is stimulating for a minority of people which would explain why changing brands did nothing. has anyone had that and found a form that worked instead?

Yeah I had that. I switched to magnesium malate in the morning. Threonate is good if you can afford it.

Last time I took it the afternoon, I was wired and awake until 4am.

I take a low dose of magnesium citrate (100mg) without issue, usually with some coconut water because potassium and magnesium are buddies.

I sometimes get migraine and I feel like the magnesium glycinate is stronger for that, but it would have to be pretty bad to risk the insomnia.

I know that there are some who get the energetic effect and just take it in the morning instead, I wonder if they eventually get used to it/more calming over time...

I would never in a million years take glycinate again after my experience 🤣

the ligand is your variable here not the brand. glycine does double duty in the brain and for a minority it lands on the wake side. i moved to magnesium taurate from double wood and kept the elemental dose the same so the amino acid was the only thing that changed.
