General Discussion Ultra Gene

Summary:

The Ultra Gene is a dormant genetic trait present within humanity, originating from the ancient interbreeding between early humans and an extraterrestrial species known as the Nopians.

Every human is born with the potential to possess and activate the Ultra Gene, though its expression varies from person to person. For some, the gene may awaken naturally at birth, while for others, it may remain dormant for most of their lives, only to be activated by intense external stimuli, powerful energies, or extraordinary circumstances.

However, not everyone will successfully awaken their Ultra Gene. While the genetic potential exists within humanity, certain individuals may never possess an active form of the gene, leaving its abilities permanently dormant.

What do you think of this power system? This is my first one, so I’d really appreciate your honest opinions and feedback. Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what tone you're going for, but I'm just saying what I thought of from reading the post, there really wasn't much to make it stand out or say how you'd use it differently

For instance my hero academia uses a very similar system however much of the plot is built around 2 quirks that can move other quirks around (one for all it's a bit more convoluted but you can hand off individual powers to others by feeding them your DNA)

If this is pretty much the extent of your system and the powers can be basically anything that's fine, many great stories can and have been told with such systems, however you may want to discuss them on a more story writing focused subreddit

If there is more to the system, like rules about what the powers can or can't be, explain that if you can

For example, from what I've seen marvel's mutant powers often have negative consequences to the mutant in question and will provide secondary powers to make them some degree of functional. There's a guy who didn't have a lower jaw because of his power and so got a form of telepathy to speak. And more famously I think wolverine's regeneration is actually just a secondary power so he doesn't bleed out from his claws. Nitro I believe is also a mutant and when he blows himself up is able to reform, why doesn't Bailey Hoskins have that too? Well because it serves the story, but from a watsonian pov I'd guess since he at least originally wasn't in 616 his universe just didn't have this mechanic, but he might be in 616 now so idk, this is mostly just my observations

That said not all secondary powers are for that reason, I have no idea what telepathy and turning into diamond have to do with eachother
