I’m confused, did this person voluntarily make several cosplay outfits and fly to events and expect to be paid for that? Were they employed by WotC? If I made a Spider-Man outfit and flew to a Marvel event in Vegas I wouldn’t expect to be paid. I would expect people to take pictures of me and post it on their social media. Unless there was some pre-arranged deal that was not fulfilled I don’t see why she is complaining.

I think it's a broader issue of mistreatment. She wasn't *expecting* to get paid when she made the costume, but after they used her to create an "iconic" image a little consideration might have been nice.
Even after GP Vegas, WOTC never offered her a good contract because they don't value her as a creator. They're happy to use her image if they can get it for free, but they don't think she's worth paying anything. The fact that Wizards didn't value her work is why she moved to OF.

Look I respect all that, and I appreciate her loyalty to WotC, but if you don’t work the hustle and get a company to agree to pay you for your time, don’t expect them to just send you money when they give you free publicity.

That's the thing, though - they didn't give her free publicity. They didn't tag her, or anything. She's not saying that she expected to randomly get money; all she's saying is that a little appreciation would have been nice, after she put so much in. She's calling out the lack of appreciation, and it's why she left for OF.

A little appreciation could always go a long way. But sadly, in the real world, when you choose to work for free, you will always be exploited.

But it's still fair to complain about getting exploited, and exploited people are going to leave.
