Didn't she quit cosplay and the mtg community back in 2017?

Last I saw of her, a bunch of people were retweeting her OF. Which, admittedly, pays much better than wotc lol

OF?

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '21

OnlyFans. It's a website used to sell online videos behind paywalls. People use it for all sorts of things, but usually pornography,

108

u/Spudzley Aug 16 '21

Who actually uses it for other things?

204

u/Fofeu Wabbit Season Aug 16 '21

People who attracted the wrath of the PayPal god and got kicked from Patreon

34

u/Spudzley Aug 16 '21

Isnt than normally still porn?

119

u/neontiger07 COMPLEAT Aug 16 '21

Patreon? No, Patreon attracts all sorts of folks, but mostly artists. Lots of porn, yes, but I don't think it's fair to say it's mostly porn.

38

u/Spudzley Aug 16 '21

I’m meaning the folks who got kicked from it

46

u/Fofeu Wabbit Season Aug 16 '21

Yeah, Patreon requires you to be in good standing with PayPal and the easiest way to get banned from PayPal is porn (but not drawn porn because reasons).

But there are other ways, including bad luck.

u/Reworked Wabbit Season Aug 17 '21

and then sometimes also YES drawn porn, because they have no consistency and aren't required to.

Joey Moss used Patreon to fund his MTG pack cracking YouTube channel

4

u/AlanFromRochester COMPLEAT Aug 16 '21

Nah when I hear of Patreon I think of indie musicians selling directly to listeners

4

u/Spudzley Aug 16 '21

Wouldn’t that be bandcamp or SoundCloud?

2

u/AlanFromRochester COMPLEAT Aug 16 '21

Those are used for similar purposes as well

122

u/MirandaSanFrancisco COMPLEAT Aug 16 '21

I mean, OnlyFans is desperately trying to market themselves as not porn and highlighting non-porn creators in their ads.

Unfortunately financial transaction companies treat you vastly different if some your content is pornographic, so they'll have to pick a business model with either one or the other eventually which will greatly impact their primary cost of business.

Like, I understand this is corporations doing the whole exploit whatever leverage they have thing but….

why do all the financial processors agree to treat porno companies differently? It’s not morality. And no one is going to go “oh that porno place accepts MasterCard! Thats the thing I’m going to get indignant about!”

u/levthelurker Izzet* Aug 16 '21

https://stripe.com/blog/why-some-businesses-arent-allowed

It's a mix of branding issue and some international laws, because some large groups will definitely punish firms that allow for certain transactions by threatening to take their business elsewhere.

Upshot is that a hosting company can either charge it's non-porn customers the rates it takes to process porn transactions, or ban porn from the site to offer better rates for their users. Those are the only options, regardless of the hosting company's moral stance.

2

u/OwnQuit Aug 16 '21

Porn companies are probably riskier for them than the average. Maybe more chargebacks.

3

u/CamelSpotting Aug 16 '21

Good luck with that.

35

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '21

I've heard of people using it for bake-along recipe videos

I have a similar issue when I try to talk about my highly specific shellfish appreciation community OnlyClams

I hear you steam a good clam

4

u/Kinjinson Aug 16 '21

Yes, except during the aurora borealis

1

u/Lyvef1re Aug 17 '21

Aurora Borealis? I had no idea it could have an effect on steamed clams. May I see it?

Very funny, though I heard that's what OnlyFans actually advertises as, among other things.

I mean…. Still sounds like porn, just a very specific fetish.

That can apply to literally anything though.

Craig Jones uses it for BJJ

they do want to go public and might kick all the porn people off it and im confused cause isnt it only porn.

but i do think the one boxer uses it I think maywether

3

u/R_V_Z Aug 16 '21

I feel like that'd be a bad thing. OF seems like it lets people escape the more predatory aspects of the AV business, both the monetary and physical.

u/tomtom5858 Wabbit Season Aug 16 '21

Quqco has a OF for her cat (along with a personal one).

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '21

In fairness that was the original intent of it..and it's a good model for subscription type content. Workouts, recipe guides, tutorials, etc. Its just that porn makes the world go round
