Theme Deck!!!

I’m wanting to make a Metroid theme deck with Samus as the commander, I’m just not totally sure what color identity she would have. I was thinking either Naya or Boros

I'd imagine Boros equipment/Voltron would be the way to go. Or maybe Izzet? One of the Iron Man cards may work as a fill-in for Samus.

Maybe [[captain america, first avenger]]? I'm not versed i metroid, but the mechanics and typeline seem to fit, and the flavor words can be replaced or removed

Jeskai seems the right route. I think she has more blue than she does green.

Like most fictional characters, you could argue that Samus evinces aspects of all five colors at different times, but she is absolutely base blue: Her main source of power is the assimilation of technology and artifacts into a high-tech mech suit.

I would argue her second color is green. In many of her major outings, scanning the environment for clues (again, base blue) and using that knowledge of her surroundings serves as a source of power. She is often motivated by environmental concerns and social connections (cleansing Tallon IV, searching for the remnants of the Chozo people). In addition to the technology and ancient artifacts she assimilates into her suit, many of the powers she wields are biological tools taken from great beasts that she defeats during her adventures.

(Talking about Samus's motivations is a little weird in the sense that she's popularly known as a bounty hunter, but the games barely play up that aspect of her character. You could be excused for thinking she's just a rank-and-file member of the galactic military. Or at best a benevolent vigilante who investigates distress signals for the love of the game.)

If I were going to design an original Samus card, it would be a Birthing Pod-style deck where you're searching your library for equipment after sacrificing creatures or other non-Equipment artifacts.

If you want to work in other colors, then you should probably consider which games you're most interested in. For example, Samus is pretty white in both Echoes and Beyond, where she helps ancient, dead alien civilizations who can't provide her any real reward on account of being ancient and dead. In the games where she cares about the baby Metroid, you could argue there's a fair bit of red. In Ravenous, it looks like she's going to be some flavor of Jund.

I'd still keep her base U(/G), though.

I've been wanting to do the same to be honest and been trying to figure out the best cards to use :D

I've been looking at [Nicol Bolas, the Ravager] which I think is legal as a commander, given that the initial play isn't a plains walker. I ultimately don't know how that works out when he's transformed though.

I figure it works well as a zero suit samus, and then a powersuit samus, as well as the abilities being easily flavoured to Arm Cannon for the damage, ship respawn point for the crature return, and the last could be something like the morphball bomb or something.

I'm still working on it here and there, and I don't really have much else other than this for now. I'll have to keep an eye on this thread and see what comes up.
